The little girl chuckled. “Nobody, Sir. It was my own idea.”
Louis’ eyes widened. He was surprised that the toddler seemed honest.
“It's you who wanted to ruin my proposal? A four-year-old girl? Not anyone else?” he sighed in disbelief.
Summer pouted her lips. “Yes, Sir. Is it hard to believe me?”
“How did that come to your mind?” Louis asked curiously.
“Because I couldn’t stand seeing Mommy lonely and sad.” Summer's face dimmed. “Since the news about you and Grace Evans spread, Mommy had been a bit gloomy. I thought it broke her heart. But Mommy deserves to be happy like other women. Everyone deserves to be happy! That's why I want her to have a husband too. It's you!”
Louis fell silent for a moment. His brain was busy processing. “Who is your mother?” he asked doubtfully.
Summer blinked. Her lips pursed. “Do you still not know who Mommy is? People say I look exactly like her. You should remember right away. Besides, you two used to be so close.”
Louis was stunned. The image of Sky Hills, his old friend, crossed his mind.
Sky used to wear hoodies and jumpsuits. Her hair was curly. Her face was adorable. She also liked to carry a backpack decorated with many pins, just like the little girl in front of him.
However, Louis ignored his hunch. He didn't want to repeat the pain of the past. The toddler's resemblance to Sky might just be a coincidence.
"What's your name?" he asked.
The little girl stretched her neck, and answered excitedly. “Summer!”
“You were born in the summer?” Louis lowered an eyebrow.
“No. I was born in winter, but Mommy named me Summer because she said, I came to bring warmth into this world,” she said sweetly. Her smile captured Louis’ heart for a split second.
"How old are you?"
Summer raised her hand and folded her tiny thumb. “Four years old.”
"Where do you live?"
“We move around a lot, Sir. Mommy and I love to travel all over the world. But recently, we live in Canada.”
“I mean, in this city? Where do you live in this city? I’m going to call the police to pick up your mother. She needs to be questioned.”
Summer’s lips pursed. Her eyes blinked playfully. “We don’t have a house here. Actually, this is my first time coming to T City.”
Louis' face scrunched up in confusion. "Where do you stay while you're here?"
Summer shook her head. “I haven’t looked for a place to stay yet. I just arrived. From the airport, I rushed to the restaurant where you proposed to Miss Evans. Luckily, I wasn’t late.”
Louis snorted. “Do you think it’s that easy to fool me? You’re not even five yet. Who would believe you came all the way from Canada by yourself?”
Summer reached into her jumpsuit pocket. With a blank face, she pulled out a passport and opened it to the last page.
“So what if I’m not five yet? I’m a smart kid. I can travel by myself. Plus, I have my own bank account and my own phone now. Booking a plane ticket and flying alone is a piece of cake. And also arranging transportation. I’m an independent little adventurer.”
Louis was taken aback for a moment. But then, his laugh sounded thin and dismissive.
“Impossible. It must be your trick. There's no way such a great child exists.”
“If you still don’t believe me,” Summer jumped down from the couch. She reached for her backpack, taking a book out of it. “Look at this!”
Louis raised an eyebrow. He glanced at the book, which was full of pictures, writing, and scribbles. Again, he thought of Sky. She used to have that kind of book.
“This is my roadmap. It all started last week, when I heard about your proposal. Mommy seemed a bit down, so I decided to thwart it. I researched your location, planned my route, matched the timing with—”
“Wait,” Louis raised one hand. Summer stopped talking. “How did you know about my proposal plan?”
“Aunt Emily told Mommy about it.”
Louis froze for a moment. His eyes trembled faintly. “You know Emily?”
“Of course. She’s Mommy’s best friend. She always tells us everything. When she went on her honeymoon with Uncle Cayden, Mommy and I were the ones who guided them.”
Louis could no longer deny it. The lightning that struck his heart was too powerful. “You … are really Sky’s daughter? Sky already has a child?”
Summer smiled brightly. “That’s right! I’m Sky’s daughter. Finally, you remember Mommy. She missed you so much, Sir.”
Louis sighed in disbelief. His eyes darted around, looking for clues, but he found none. Unable to contain his confusion any longer, he finally called his twin sister.
“Hello, Louis? What's up? Do you want to tell me that Grace has accepted your proposal?”
“Why didn’t you ever tell me that Sky had a child?” Louis snapped, without further ado.
The atmosphere suddenly became quiet. Even Summer was no longer making any sound.
“Emily? Answer me!”
“You never asked, Louis. Last time I wanted to tell you about Sky, you refused to listen. You said she wasn’t your best friend anymore. How did you know she had a child? And why did you sound so angry?”
Louis lowered his head, and closed his eyes, trying to control his emotions. He sighed, “Her daughter is with me. She claims she flew here by herself. Do you know what she did?”
Louis unconsciously gritted his teeth. His emotions were too hard to suppress.
“She suddenly appeared at the restaurant, forbidding me from marrying Ace. She wanted me to marry her mother and become her father. She ruined everything I had planned, Em. Therefore, send me Sky's contact! I need to talk to her directly and demand accountability!”
Looking at Louis' anger, Summer held her breath. Her cheeks puffed up, her hands tightly clenched.
She didn't know how Louis would talk and how Sky would react. She hoped her mother would not faint when she heard Louis' voice, because she wasn't there to help.
While the officer was busy tracking Summer, Sky's phone rang. Seeing an unknown number contacting her via video call, her breath hitched.Could it be a kidnapper asking for compensation? Or was it a good person who accidentally found her daughter?Sky answered the call with a pounding heart. However, when she saw the face that appeared, her anxiety vanished. Her eyes widened, reflecting astonishment and surprise.“L-Louis?”Louis had actually frowned before. He was ready to vent his anger at Sky, demanding accountability for the mess her daughter had caused. However, when the beautiful face covered in tears received his video call, his anger faded. A feeling of pity and longing arose from the corner of his heart.“Sky,” his tongue was numb at the name.Sky blinked. Looking down, she wiped her eyes. She didn't want Louis to know about her anxiety. She wasn't ready for her status as a single mother to be revealed.“Hi, Louis. Long time no see. What’s up? Shouldn’t you be happy with your
“Spending time with Mommy is not a waste, Sir. Mommy is a wonderful woman. You can talk to her about anything. She knows everything! If you two are talking, I promise not to disturb you. I can play in the yard by myself. Besides,” Summer took a deep breath.“Didn’t you two use to be best friends? I heard that you used to play and go on vacation together. I think Mommy would be very happy if you guys could relive the good times. Even now, Mommy still talks about it often. She really enjoyed your friendship. With Aunt Emily and Uncle Russell too!”Louis fell silent for a moment. The times Summer had mentioned flashed through his mind. But in the blink of an eye, he buried them again.“Sorry, I don’t have time for that. Besides, it’s all been a long time. Even if I did it again, nothing would change. I still can’t marry your mother. The one I love now is Grace Evans. She’s the one I’m going to marry.”Summer pouted. Her eyes were suddenly thick and shadowy. Before she could express her an
“I don’t think so,” Summer shook her head slowly. “In my opinion, Grace is a cold and stiff person. She’s the exact opposite of Mommy. People always say that Mommy is fun and cheerful. She likes to entertain others. In all the years you’ve been friends with Mommy, haven’t you noticed that?”Louis subconsciously scratched his nose. He felt uncomfortable with the question. “Did you just belittle my girlfriend?”“I did not belittle her. I just want to say that Mommy is great too. She’s also worthy of you marrying, and I think you’re more compatible with Mommy.”With a quick grunt, Louis straightened up. He was much bigger than Summer. There was no way he could be less powerful than her.“You are so stubborn. There is no point in us talking. I'd better get some rest.”Summer stared at Louis as he walked away. “Sir, where are you going?”"Rest!"“What about me? I am a guest here. It would be rude of you to ignore me.”Summer put her hands on her hips and tilted her head. She didn't realize
“Wait a minute,” Louis flinched. “What am I doing? Why am I watching over that little human? Even though she is the daughter of Sky, she has nothing to do with me. Is this because of humanity?”Not wanting to think of any other reasons, Louis forced himself to believe it.“Yes, I am watching her out of humanity. I am a good guy. I could not possibly abandon a little child even if she was very annoying.”Meanwhile, Summer had returned to the living room. She tidied up her bag, then combed her curly hair with difficulty. Louis's little heart was moved to help. But once again, he ignored the intention.Shortly after lying in the sleeping bag, Summer fell asleep. She occasionally scratched her neck. Seeing that, Louis worried again.“Isn’t it uncomfortable? She shouldn’t be using a sleeping bag in a room like that.”As he kept staring at Summer, Louis was lost in thought. Slowly, he began to realize.Although he hated what Summer had done, he couldn't blame her. Maybe the little girl was a
Louis’ breath hitched, his eyebrows knitted. A strange feeling rose in his chest. But after clenching his fist, he got his mind back on track.“You don’t have to worry, Ace. Sky and her daughter had nothing to do with it. You trust me, right? There’s no way I could sleep with just any girl. The scandal was a setup. Someone was trying to ruin my reputation. It was all a trick.”Grace didn’t answer. Louis could imagine her pretty eyebrows furrowing in annoyance. He added, “Summer won’t be here long. Sky will pick her up soon.”“So her name is Summer? You guys have been close, huh? Do you consider her your own child? Have you forgotten what she did to us?”Louis sighed heavily. “Ace, I know you must be upset that Summer ruined the proposal. So am I. But we can’t blame her. She’s just a child who misses her father.”“You’re right. It’s not her to blame, but her mother. She didn’t do a good job of looking after her child.”Louis fell silent for a moment. He had to be careful in choosing the
“Anyway, how was your sleep, Uncle? Did you sleep well too? I think so. Otherwise, there's no way you would have snored so loudly. Actually, I woke up because of it. I thought there was a frog near my ear, so I opened my eyes. Apparently, it was you! But I didn't mind you waking me up, because last night was a good night. I felt like I was sleeping with my own father! I will never forget that experience," Summer nodded with a beaming face. Meanwhile, Louis took a deep breath. He never knew a toddler could speak so fluently and without a pause. "Please don't misunderstand. I moved you here not because we're close, but because I'm a good person. I can't abandon a child. If the paparazzi recorded me, my good name would be ruined." "What's a parapazi?" Summer asked through her pursed lips. “Paparazzi,” Louis corrected. “People who take photos secretly to share through the media. They usually aim their cameras at famous people. The people they photograph can suffer.” "Oh, that's a
"Ace," Louis sighed as he lowered his phone from in front of his face. He didn't care if his conversation with Sky hadn't been over. Grace's feelings were his priority. Instead of responding, Grace turned to leave. Seeing that, Louis spontaneously jumped out of bed. "Ace, wait." He held her arm. "Please don't misunderstand. Just hear me out." "What else do I need to hear? Isn't it all clear?" Grace pushed Louis' hand off her arm. "You said you would handle that brat. But look at the reality! You two are getting closer. You even slept with her last night!" Her ragged breathing made the atmosphere even more tense. Louis shook his head slightly. His eyes narrowed in disbelief. "Are you jealous of a little girl? Come on, Ace. She's not even five." "Don't play dumb, Louis. Do you think I don't know? You're starting to think of her as your daughter. So what are you going to do after this? Leave me to marry her mother?" "Ace," Louis held Grace's shoulders and looked at her gently, "pl
Louis stopped. Something in his heart kept him from moving. However, when he was about to turn around, Grace caught his hand. "Have you changed your mind?" Grace asked with a threatening expression. Louis took a deep breath. Taking her hand, he finally looked forward. "Let's go get breakfast." Meanwhile, two guards had stopped Summer. Seeing the little girl struggling, the oldest servant tried to calm her down. "Please don't chase after Mr. Harper, Little Lady. He has some business outside. How about having breakfast? My friends and I have prepared lots of delicious food for you." However, Summer kept struggling. Her head moved around, looking for traces of Louis. "Uncle Louis, please don't leave me. I want to go with you. Uncle Louis!" Louis heard the heartbreaking voice, but he ignored it. As the elevator doors began to close, Summer finally burst into tears. She no longer fought back. Sobbing, she wiped her eyes with her arms. "Uncle Louis, why did you ignore me? I s
While the kids from the next table went back to their seats, River whispered, "Summer, did you learn that from your bank account?""Yes!" Summer exclaimed with wide eyes. "I saw how my savings in the bank book changed. I asked Mommy to explain it."River sighed in amazement. "Wow, I guess you're right. Learning doesn't have to be at school, but can be anywhere. The proof is you can learn a lot of things from one bank book."Summer giggled. She liked being praised, and she was happy that her knowledge was useful in helping her friends.Meanwhile, Gigi lowered her head. She started to squeeze her own fingers. Her annoyance could no longer be controlled."Summer is so mean. She has stolen my teachers and friends. Because of her, everyone ignored me today. She needs to be warned," she said to herself. Therefore, when it was time to break, she followed Summer and
Summer blinked. Her lips were folded into her mouth.Seeing that, Gigi felt satisfied. She was increasingly convinced that Summer didn't understand what they had been discussing."Mrs. Ross, Summer seems too young to be in this class. If she stays with us, it's a shame for her. She'll definitely be left behind," Gigi said with a pitiful face.Mrs. Ross sighed. She remembered, when she received the news about Summer, she had hesitated to accept her. Only after Louis explained about Summer's abilities did her worries subside. But now, that feeling rose again and weighed on her shoulders."Everyone, let's help Summer understand the lesson," Mrs. Ross said while grabbing three number magnets. She arranged them on a special board into the number 123. Before she could ask, Summer raised her hand."Excuse me, Mrs. Ross. May I explain that number?"The teacher raised an eyebrow. "Would you like to try?" she asked with a smile. After all, she couldn't show any hesitation.Summer nodded. Her fi
"Because this is a surprise for you!" River answered with a meaningful smile.Summer's head was tilted to the left. "Surprise?"River handed a book to her. Seeing the front cover, Summer gasped."This is my book! Why did the teacher ask the students to bring it today?" she whispered with round eyes. Her voice was as thin as the wind. It tickled River's ears. The boy chuckled again."I heard from Uncle Brandon, the teachers were impressed with your abilities. It happened when your father assured them that you could keep up with the students in this class. Because of that, the teachers decided to discuss your book. They want the other kids to be inspired by your enthusiasm and achievements.""Wow," Summer sighed in amazement. "I didn't know Daddy did that. He made me sound cool.""You're cool, Summer. Now stop chatting. We'll get told off.
"Who are you, Little Kid? Why are you here with River? Don't you realize that this is not your place? You should come to kindergarten!" she asked sharply.Instead of being afraid, Summer smiled. She held out her hand, saying friendly, "Hello, Gigi. I'm Summer, a temporary student in this class. Nice to meet you."Gigi was reluctant to shake Summer's hand. Luckily, before Summer knew that, two teachers came."Good morning, Everyone."All the kids stared wide-eyed, turning towards the door."Good morning, Mrs. Ross and Miss Jasmine," the students greeted them. Even Summer joined in the greeting, though her voice was a bit late. Then, while the other kids returned to their seats, Gigi grabbed River's hand. "River, let's sit down. I've already picked a spot next to you."River blinked innocently. "Thank you, Gigi. But I still have to take care of Summer. Just go to your seat first."After letting go of Gigi, River grabbed the smaller girl's hand. "Come on, Summer. I've saved a spot for yo
A second later, Summer came out of the limousine. River immediately greeted her with fiery enthusiasm."Wow, Summer? You're wearing a jumpsuit like every other day?" the boy in the neat shirt asked, a little surprised.Summer looked down, checking her clothes. "Is there any problem? Aren't we allowed to dress freely? You said there were no uniforms except for special events."River pursed his lips to one side. "Actually, there's no problem. It's just that I thought you would wear special clothes. It's your first day of school! Some girls even wear dresses, complete with pretty ribbons on their heads.""And your backpack?" River pulled Summer's arm so that the little girl would turn around a little. "Didn't you say you bought school equipment with your parents?"Summer blinked innocently. "Yes, I bought them. They're all in here. You know what? There's a sharpener on the end of my
Summer gasped. She realized that his family's secret was in jeopardy."Sorry, River. I can't tell you yet. After we've been closer, and I've managed to meet Papoy, I'll tell you," she nodded reassuringly.River's lips pursed to one corner. "Okay.""Now, do you need some papers? How about you write down your plans for the next few days?" Summer offered, trying to erase the disappointment on her new friend's face."That's a great idea!"Watching Summer and River's interaction, Omega smiled faintly. He secretly took a picture of them, and sent it to Louis."Report, Boss. The situation is under control. They were just talking about school. It seems like your daughter is starting to get interested."Receiving that message, Louis sighed in disbelief. When he showed it to Sky, Sky also showed the same response."What made Summer change her mind?" Sky whispered in a soft, ticklish voice.Louis shrugged. Stroking Sky's slender waist, he whispered, "Let's just wait. Summer will definitely tell u
"Mommy, Daddy, I'll take River to play in my exploration room. Thank you for the explanation you've given. We'll talk again later, okay?"Louis and Sky smiled in amusement. "Okay, Honey. Have fun with your new friend.""Okay, Mommy."After waving her hand, Summer walked with River towards her room. The two of them looked so cute from behind."Louis, are you familiar with that scene?" Sky whispered softly.Louis nodded. "They're just like us. I hope they can be good friends too."While Sky nodded, Louis shifted his gaze towards Omega. "Please keep an eye on them. If River says something inappropriate for his age, give him a warning. Although he is a good boy, we still have to be careful. He watches too much TV."The guard nodded. "Yes, Sir." After that, he hurried after the children. His responsibilities had become heavier. He knew that he
"Now that I think about it," River pondered. "Uncle Louis, you're right. Summer and I are still too young to get married. Even if we were meant to be, it would take a few more years for us to do it.""Really? You won't marry me until we're adults?" Summer still sounded suspicious."Yes," River nodded casually. "Like you said, there are still many things we have to do before getting married. We're still young. We should focus on preparing ourselves for the future. Moreover, we're heirs to big companies."A second later, River turned his body to fully face Summer. He held out his hand."How about being friends?" he suggested. "We can play and study together. If we're meant to be, we can get married when we're adults.""What if I still don't like you when we're grown up? Are you going to force me to get married to you?" Summer asked, making Louis and Sky glance at each other.River lowered his hand. His lips were pulled to one side. "I think it's too soon for us to talk about that. I don'
Summer gasped in horror. She looked at her plans on the paper. They could all fall apart if she got married early."But we're still young," she sighed. "And we don't know each other yet. How can we possibly get married?"River shrugged. "I'm confused too. But, my parents said that we're meant to be together. We'll definitely get married someday."Summer pouted. She didn't want to get married yet, and she wasn't ready to be a wife. With an annoyed expression, she got off the chair."Come with me! We have to straighten this out. This must be a misunderstanding," she said as she walked towards the door."Where are you going, Miss Harper?" Omega asked while holding back his laughter."To see Daddy. I want to ask for an explanation about River," Summer answered in an annoyed tone. "Is he in Mommy's room?"Omega nodded. "I think so."&nb
