4. She was a gold digger

Five years later….

Richard Presley sat in his office with a photo frame he'd vowed not to ever look at, but his heart always betrayed him. It's been five years already, but he has still not gotten over her. He'd supposed to hate her for what she did. He hates himself for still thinking about her after all these years.

He was snapped out of his thoughts as he heard some unusual noise outside his spacious office. In the next few seconds, the door was forcefully opened as his secretary and Miss Anita Hernandez matched into the office. His secretary, Nancy, was trying to stop Anita, but the billionaire heiress was too stubborn.

“I'm sorry, Mr. Presley, I tried stopping her,” Nancy quickly explained. She wouldn't let her boss think that she didn't do her job well. Richard had earlier instructed her that she shouldn't let anyone in. He needed some private time. Nancy tried acting on the instruction, but Anita was not someone she could easily handle.

“It's okay, Nancy, you can leave,” Richard said with his cool, deep voice. One of the features Anita loves about him. Richard knew that someone like Nancy couldn't stop Anita from having her way. She's the daughter of one of the richest men in the city, who was raised to be a spoiled brat. His parents are one of the reasons Anita could get away with a lot of things in his company.

Once Nancy left the office, Anita turned to Richard with a poker face.

“Why are you ignoring my calls, Richard? Have you forgotten that we have plans today? I'm your fiance, you shouldn't treat me like this.”

“I don't remember making plans with you today. And we both know that there's nothing between us. I have not secretly or publicly announced or accepted you as my fiance. You should stop deceiving yourself.” Richard replied coldly.

“Why are you doing this to me, Richard? You know how much I love you. I've been by your side all these years. What else should I do so you could love me.” Anita lamented. She has wondered what she could ever do to make this man fall in love with her. She has tried all the methods she could think of, but they all failed her. Even though both their parents want them to be together, Richard has hardened his heart towards her. Her eyes subconsciously caught the photo frame he was holding before he put it inside the drawer. She clenched her fist in anger. It's been five years, and he still hasn't gotten over that bitch despite what she did to him.

“Don't tell me that you hardened your heart towards my love because of her. Have you forgotten what she did to you and your family?” Anita has a painful smile on her face. “Maybe I should remind you.” She added nonchalantly.

“She was caught on a bed with another man, and in the process of escaping, she risked the life of your child and killed him. She ran away with your family's money after signing a divorce paper. She didn't mind your condition…. She didn't mind the fact that you were in a coma. That means she never loved you. She was a gold digger. She used you. Why can't you get that into your skull and forget about her! She doesn't….”

“That's enough!” Richard snapped in anger. He clenched his fist and closed his eyes as he tried to calm himself. He already hates himself for still being in love with her, and someone reminding him of his stupidity makes him more damn angry.

“I want to hear no more. Leave.” He whispered, still trying to calm himself.

Anita scoffed. “People are always scared of the truth.”

“I said leave!” he thundered. Anita shivered slightly and abruptly scuttled out of the office. His voice was so scary that she couldn't resist obeying him.

Once she was out of the office, Richard angrily scattered the items on his table. He's damn mad at himself. He slumped on his chair and ran his hand through his face. He still couldn't believe that Annabelle could do something like that. He has been looking for her for the past five years but she's nowhere to be found. He's not going to stop looking for her. Once he finds her, he will make her pay for killing his child. He will make her pay for making his life miserable.
