Chapter 6

I got into the taxi and looked out the window. Jason said something to Sylvie and shook her off before running toward me.

The car drove off, but Jason continued to give chase.

His figure was getting further and further away until the night eventually made it so that he could no longer be seen.

I gave him one last chance to decide, but Sylvie came first. It was about time I let go.

I went into the hospital alone.

Initially, there were no blisters, but the delay in getting medical attention resulted in a few of them appearing.

While the nurse cleaned the wound and applied ointment, she chastised me, "Burns need to be treated immediately. What made you wait so long?"

I could not bring myself to explain it.

She pointed to the hickey on my neck again and asked, "Do we need to get the police involved?"

"I came here from the police station," came my reply.

By the time I was about to leave the consultation room, Jason had already caught up.
