CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FOURTEEN

TYLA Point of View

I missed the dungeon prison. The thought struck me as absurd. How could I possibly long for that dank, dark place where I had suffered so much? Yet as I shifted against the cold metal binding my wrists, I understood the cruel irony. It was suffocating here, the air in my room somehow heavier despite the familiar surroundings, and though my bed was more relaxing than the hard stone floor I'd endured before, these chains were worse. At least in the dungeon, I had been able to move freely within my cell. I stared at the ceiling, counting the familiar cracks in the plaste. Abything to distract myself from the reality that I had been imprisoned twice in a very short period. The weight of this realization pressed against my chest, making it harder to breathe than the actual restraints did. The sound of the door opening pulled me from my thoughts. A maid I didn't recognize entered cautiously, carrying a tray of food. Her eyes darted nervo

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTEEN DAMON Point of View I was in the middle of planning my next move when I heard a knock on the door. Three rapid taps followed by two slower ones.I hesitated for a moment. "Come in," I called, straightening my posture and schooling my features into a neutral expression. The door creaked open, and Jason stepped inside, looking more haggard than I remembered. Dark circles shadowed his eyes, and his usually meticulous appearance had given way to wrinkled clothes and disheveled hair. Whatever he had been through since our last encounter had clearly taken its toll on him. "Damon," he greeted as he closed the door behind him and leaned against it, as if needing the support. "It's been a while." I nodded, watching him carefully. "I didn't expect to see you again so soon." A humorless smile crossed his face. "Neither did I, to be honest. But circumstances change." We stood in silence for a moment, the air between us filled with lingering resentment. "I've forgi

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTEEN JONATHAN Point of View I paced back and forth across the marble floor, my footsteps echoing through the grand hall where my pack's army leader stood at attention. The man's posture was rigid, hands clasped behind his back as he awaited my orders. "We need to be ready," I said, stopping abruptly to face him. "Damon has crossed me for the last time." "What are your orders, sir?" he asked, his voice steady but eager. I moved closer, lowering my voice despite the emptiness of the hall. "Prepare the men for war. All of them. I want a full mobilization by sunrise." His eyebrows rose slightly. That was the only indication of his surprise. "War?" "Yes, war. I'm not just going to hand him over to the elders like that. I'm going to make him suffer! I will make him pay, and would do it myself." I took two steps forward. I smiled, though there was no warmth in it. "Expose him first, yes. Let everyone see what he truly is. But afterward..." I paused, savoring the

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTEEN DAMON Point of View "We don't have to do this, you know," I said as I turned to face Jason. He stood with his back against an ancient oak tree, his expression guarded as he watched me. "Do what?" he asked, though I could tell from his tone that he already knew what I meant. "Go to war." I gestured vaguely in the direction of the cornrow pack's territory. "Storm Jonathan's compound with all our forces. Risk everyone's lives when there might be another way." Jason's eyebrows rose slightly. "You have a new plan?" The night air felt cool against my skin. I nodded, moving closer to him so that my voice wouldn't carry beyond the clearing. We were alone, but in these dangerous times, I trusted nothing and no one. "I do," I confirmed. "We don't have to gather our entire pack against Jonathan's. We don't have to risk a bloodbath when all I really want is Tyla's safety." Jason pushed himself away from the tree, as he became more interested. "I'm listening." "

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTEEN TYLA Point of View The creaky floor outside my room made my heart flutter. I knew the slow, heavy approach was unmistakably Jonathan. My heart thudded against the cage of my ribs, but I was breathing slower, my muscles to release. I pulled the thin blanket up to my chin and shut my eyes tightly, faking sleep. The last thing I wanted was to have another spate of his vile insults, his sneering voice heavy with contempt as he analyzed each failing. I'd had enough of that in the last few weeks, trapped in this dingy, cave-like room with the flaking walls and the graying stain of mildew attached to the atmosphere. The door creaked a little wider, and I felt him coming towards me, bearing down. His odor, the acrid bite of tobacco and perspiration, preceded him, a scent that had become linked to terror. My face relaxed, my respirations light and regular, and I hoped he'd tire and leave. Jonathan wasn't that sort of fellow to let an opportunity pass, though

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND NINETEEN JONATHAN Point of View The air in the dimly lit study was thick with the scent of old leather and woodsmoke as I sat at my desk, staring at the crumpled note in my hand. "Damon requests your presence at the pack’s lodge. Urgent." The words were scrawled in a hasty, jagged script, and they gnawed at my curiosity like a persistent itch. Why would Damon, of all people, want to see me? We had never been close—Damon was a wildfire, unpredictable and fierce, while I preferred the steady rhythm of order and caution. Yet something in the summons tugged at me, a thread of intrigue I couldn’t ignore. After a moment’s hesitation, I folded the note and reached for my phone. “Damisus,” I said when the call connected, his voice low and deliberate. “Damon’s asked me to meet him. I’m going.” There was a pause on the other line, the faraway buzz of static in the air. Then Damisus's gravelly voice came through, laced with warning. "Be careful, Jonathan. Damon's not a

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY DAMON Point of View The enormous oak door of the lodge groaned open and Jonathan burst through it, his boots thudding on the extremely polished wood floor. The air was filled with the odor of pine and a hint of smoke from the fire in the fireplace, but Jonathan didn't pause to savor it. He bypassed the formalities—no nod to the guards, no welcome for the man by the fire—and strode to the middle of the room, his jaw set and his eyes blazing. I was present, lounging in a high-backed chair, one leg draped over the armrest. My dark hair was rumpled into my face, but my sharp eyes tracked Jonathan's every movement, unmoved by the intruders. "You came," I stated, my deep voice vibrating. “Your note didn’t leave much room for refusal. What’s this about?” Jonathan asked as he dipped his head in acknowledgment, settling into the chair across from me. I leaned forward, elbows resting on my knees, fingers steepled. The fire cast shadows across my face, sharpening

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-ONE TYLA Point of View It was still very early in the morning, when the guards walked into the room and took out all the chains binding me. I breathed in a sigh of relief, finally tasting freedom. But at the same time, I wondered what was going on. "What do you want?" I snapped at him. "Good morning, Tyla," he replied, his voice devoid of its characteristic abrasiveness. My suspicions were immediately aroused, but I moved to the side and watched him carefully as he went inside. The warm brightness of the early light streaming through the window appeared to contrast with the chilly I had become used to. "I've come to apologize," he said, his eyes meeting mine with an intensity that made me want to look away. But I held his gaze, searching for any sign of deception. "Apologize?" I repeated, the word feeling strange on my tongue. Jonathan has never apologized. Not to me, not to anyone. He nodded, a sigh escaping his lips. "I know I've been difficult... ha

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-TWO TYLA Point of View It had been two days since Jonathan had started being nice to me. I still couldn't believe how different things were now. Part of me kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, for him to go back to his old ways. But each day passed with more kindness from him, and I found myself relaxing a little more. "You look beautiful today," Jonathan said when I came down for breakfast. I smiled despite myself. "Thank you." He pulled out my chair for me, a small gesture that would have seemed impossible just weeks ago. As I sat down, our eyes met, and for a moment, I almost forgot everything that had happened between us. Almost. Because no matter how charming he was now, I couldn't forget what he had done. The memories of my past life still haunted me – how he had taken everything from me, including my life. The thought sent a chill down my spine, even as I smiled back at him. "I was thinking we could go out today," he said casually, spreading

I couldn't believe how I had ignored her, pushed her away when she needed me most. I had been so caught up in my own problems, my own guilt and shame, that I had neglected the one person who truly cared about me. Now, it seemed like it was too late. Jess was hurt, and I didn't blame her. I had broken her trust, and I didn't know if I could ever repair it. I felt a pang of sadness and regret. I wished I could go back in time, do things differently. I wished I could amend things, make it right between us. But it was too late now. The damage was done, and all I could do was hope that someday, somehow, Jess would be able to forgive me. I sighed, feeling a sense of despair wash over me. I had messed up, and now I had to live with the consequences. I walked back to my quarters, feeling lost and

We had been searching for the missing goods for weeks, and I was determined to finally recover them. I had been working tirelessly, following every lead, every hint, every rumor. I had spoken to every pack member, every ally, every enemy. And finally, after all this time, I had a breakthrough. I had received a tip from a reliable source that the missing goods were being hidden in an abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of our territory. I had assembled a team of my most trusted pack members, and we were ready to move. We arrived at the warehouse under the cover of darkness. We moved stealthily, our eyes scanning the area for any signs of danger. I gave a hand signal, and my team moved into position. We burst into the warehouse, our flashlights illuminating the dark space. And there, in the center of the room, were the missing goods. Crates of food, medi

Damon's eyes locked onto mine, his expression serious. "I was wondering if you'd consider not going with Tyla back to the Cornrow pack," he said, his voice filled with emotion. I raised an eyebrow, surprised. "Why?" I asked, curious. Tyla spoke up, her voice soft. "Because, Jess, I need some time to heal. And everything in the Cornrow pack...it's just too much. It'll never let me heal." I nodded, understanding. I knew that Tyla had been through a lot, and the Cornrow pack was a constant reminder of her past. I couldn't blame her for wanting to get away from it all. "Okay, Tyla," I said, smiling softly. "I'll

It was as if the weight of our confessions had lifted a burden off our shoulders, and we were finally free to express our true feelings. I looked into Tyla's eyes, and I saw the same desire reflected back at me. Without a word, I leaned in, my lips brushing against hers in a gentle, tender kiss. Tyla's response was immediate, her lips parting to deepen the kiss. I felt a surge of passion run through me, and I wrapped my arms around her, pulling her close. We kissed for what felt like hours, our lips locked together in a passionate, all-consuming kiss. I felt like I was home, like I had finally found the missing piece of my soul. As we broke apart for air, I looked into Tyla's eyes and saw the same love, the same desire reflected back at me. Without a word, I stood up, pulling her to her feet, and led her to the bedroom.
