CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED

TYLA Point of View

The chains shook with every step I took, a constant reminder that I was held captive. Five steps from the bed to the window. Seven to the bathroom door. Twelve to the bookshelf in the corner. I had counted them all, memorized the exact length, learned precisely how far I could go before the metal bit into my ankle and brought me up short. Days had passed since I had been locked in my room. How many, I couldn't be sure anymore. The window offered glimpses of daylight and darkness, but in my disfigured state, everything began to blue. I couldn't distinguish between day and night. I limped across the room, the chain dragging behind me like a reluctant shadow. My ankle was raw where the metal cuff had rubbed the skin away, leaving it tender and inflamed. The pain was a dull throb now, something I'd learned to push to the background of my awareness. There were worse pains to focus on. I made my way to the bookshelf and ran my fingertips over the spi

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND ONE JESSICA Point of View A knock on my door came. Three sharp raps, authoritative and impatient. Jonathan pushed the door open, his broad frame filling the entrance. Light from the corridor spilled around him, casting his shadow long across my floor. His face bore the same impassive expression he always wore in public, but there was something else there tonight. A glint of satisfaction in his eyes that made my stomach tighten. "Jessica," he said, stepping into the room and closing the door behind him. The space immediately felt smaller, the air heavier with his presence. I straightened my shoulders, lifting my chin slightly. "Jonathan." He moved further into the room, his gaze sweeping over me, assessing. I fought the urge to fidget under his scrutiny. "You did well today," he said finally. "During the meeting." The praise should have warmed me. It was what I'd been working toward, after all. His approval, his recognition of my value to him and the pack. Ins

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWO TYLA Point of View The chains rattled as I shifted on the bed, the sound grating against my already frayed nerves. Another day in captivity, another day of staring at the same four walls until I thought I might lose my mind entirely. The window showed afternoon light fading toward evening. golden rays stretching across the floor in patterns I'd memorized over countless hours of observation. I closed my eyes, focusing inward, searching for that connection that had once been as natural as breathing. The mind link, the invisible thread that bound pack members together, allowing communication across distances without words. I reached for it now, desperate for contact with the one person who might be able to help me. Damon. His name alone brought a flutter of hope to my chest, quickly crushed by the solid wall I encountered where the connection should have been. Blocked. Completely and utterly blocked. Whether by distance or intent, I couldn't tell. Perhaps th

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED THREE DAMON Point of View The sun beat down mercilessly as I landed another hard blow against the practice dummy. Sweat poured down my face, stinging my eyes, but I didn't stop. I couldn't. The physical exertion was the only thing keeping me sane these days. Around me, the training ground buzzed with activity. younger pack members sparring, veterans demonstrating combat techniques, the occasional grunt or yelp punctuating the otherwise methodical rhythm of training. I had been here since dawn, working myself to exhaustion, trying to quiet the storm of thoughts that had plagued me since everything went to hell. My fist connected with the practice dummy again, the impact sending a jolt of pain up my arm. Good. Pain was clarifying. Pain was real. Everything else felt like shifting sand beneath my feet. "Alpha Damon." I ignored the voice, launching into another series of strikes, each one harder than the last. The leather of the dummy was beginning to crack under the

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED FOUR KING DAMISUS Point of View The palace hallways echoed with my footsteps as I made my way toward Jonathan's quarters. Guards straightened as I passed, their eyes sharp and ready to prey. I didn't acknowledge them. My mind was focused on the matter at hand—the missing goods that had been promised to my pack. I had given Jonathan some time to sort out whatever complications he claimed were holding up the delivery. Three days had passed since our phone conversation, and I was becoming impatient. I guess it was for a physical meeting. Two guards stood outside Jonathan's study, their postures stiffened when they saw me coming. They both exchanged nervous glances before one knocked on the door. "Alpha King Damisus to see you, sir," he announced. There was a brief pause, then Jonathan's voice called out, "Let him in." The guard pushed open the door, and I went in without further invitation. He was seated behind his desk, papers spread out before him. He looked up as

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED FIVE DAMON Point of View I stood in front of Jason's room, my eyes fixed on his door. I hesitated at the entrance, my hand poised to knock on the heavy metal door. Our last encounter hadn't exactly been friendly. The memory of his face contorted with rage and betrayal was still fresh in my mind. I had no choice. With Jay's information about Tyla's imprisonment weighing heavily on my conscience, I needed allies, and Jason was one of the few people I trusted with something this delicate. If he would even speak to me, that is. Taking a deep breath, I rapped my knuckles against the door, the sound echoing in the empty alley. No response. I knocked again, harder this time. "Jason," I called out. "It's Damon. We need to talk." Silence stretched for several long moments. Then, just as I was about to turn away, the sound of locks disengaging reached my ears. The door cracked open an inch, and a single eye peered out at me. "What do you want?" The voice was familiar, but

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SIX THIRD POV The grand council chamber felt suffocating as Jonathan stood before the assembled leadership. Eight alphas from neighboring territories sat in a semicircle, their expressions ranging from barely concealed contempt to outright hostility. Behind them, dozens of elders, betas, and select gammas filled the tiered seating, creating a wall of judgmental stares that bore down on Jonathan from every angle. The air in the chamber was overcomed with tension. What should have been a routine council meeting had quickly devolved into something resembling a trial, with Jonathan as the accused. "These accusations are absurd," Jonathan said, struggling to keep his voice steady as he addressed the gathering. "I had no hand in the missing goods. None whatsoever." Alpha Jamel leaned forward, his massive frame casting a shadow across the polished stone floor. His nostrils flared slightly as he spoke, barely containing his rage. "Then perhaps you can explain how an

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SEVEN JONATHAN Point of View I watched the Alpha King stand up for me, offering a lifeline when everyone else was ready to cut me loose. But instead of the gratitude I should have felt, a storm of anxiety churned in my gut. The other alphas and elders weren't really in support of it. "We've already extended too much leniency," one of the older elders disagreed. "How many more chances must we give before acknowledging what's plainly before us?" Alpha Jamel nodded in agreement, his massive frame seeming to expand with his anger. 'My pack has suffered real consequences while we wait. Empty stomachs. Weakened defenses. These aren't trivial matters. We are running out of weapons, and if we peradventure get attacked, how will we fight?" Jamel's statements were selfish. One would think that he was the only Alpha who had things in the shipment that got missing. I wanted to speak, to defend myself again, but the glares directed my way made it clear my words held no va

The coffee in my mug had gone cold hours ago, but I drank it anyway, grimacing at the bitter taste. Anything to keep me awake, to keep me thinking. God, I was so tired. I leaned back in my chair, rubbing my burning eyes. The stubble on my face was rough under my fingers. When was the last time I'd showered? Eaten something that wasn't brought to me by worried packmates? I couldn't remember. How the hell was I supposed to get to her? Jonathan had her locked down tight. Guards everywhere. Surveillance. It was like trying to break into a fortress with a plastic spoon. "Damn it," I muttered, shoving away from the desk. The chair rolled back and hit the wall with a

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY SEVEN THIRD POV Three months had passed since the pack's last gathering, and the air was electric with excitement as the Cornrow Pack prepared to witness a historic moment – the coronation of their new Alpha King, Damon. The sun was setting over the pack's territory, casting a warm orange glow over the gathered crowd. The atmosphere was alive with chatter and laughter as the pack members eagerly awaited the ceremony. At the center of the gathering stood an elegant stage, adorned with intricate carvings and symbols of the pack's heritage. Before the stage, a beautifully crafted altar held a delicate, gemstone-encrusted crown, awaiting its new owner. The Luna ceremony was about to commence, and Tyla, Damon's chosen mate, stood poised and radiant, her long, dark hair cascading down her back like a waterfall of night. Her eyes shone with happiness as she gazed at Damon, who stood beside her, his eyes burning with adoration. Elara, the eldest elder, steppe

I had been so focused on my quest for revenge that I hadn't thought about what would come next. CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY FIVE JAY Point of View I walked away from Damon, feeling a mix of emotions swirling inside me. I was worried about Jess, and I regretted the way I had treated her. I couldn't believe how I had ignored her, pushed her away when she needed me most. I had been so caught up in my own problems, my own guilt and shame, that I had neglected the one person who truly cared about me. Now, it seemed like it was too late. Jess was hurt, and I didn't blame her. I had broken her trust, and I didn't know if I could ever repair it. I felt a pang of sadness and regret. I wished I could go back in time, do things differently. I wished I could amend things, make it right between us. But it was too late now. The damage was done, and all I could do was hope that someday, somehow, Jess would be able to forgive me. I sighed, feeling a sense of despair wash over me. I had messed up, and now I had to live with the consequences. I walked back to my quarters, feeling lost and

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY FOUR DAMON point of View I stood in front of the large map of our territory, studying it intently. We had been searching for the missing goods for weeks, and I was determined to finally recover them. I had been working tirelessly, following every lead, every hint, every rumor. I had spoken to every pack member, every ally, every enemy. And finally, after all this time, I had a breakthrough. I had received a tip from a reliable source that the missing goods were being hidden in an abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of our territory. I had assembled a team of my most trusted pack members, and we were ready to move. We arrived at the warehouse under the cover of darkness. We moved stealthily, our eyes scanning the area for any signs of danger. I gave a hand signal, and my team moved into position. We burst into the warehouse, our flashlights illuminating the dark space. And there, in the center of the room, were the missing goods. Crates of food, medi

Damon walked into the room, his eyes locked onto Tyla's. "Hey, Jess, can I talk to you for a minute?" he asked, his voice soft. I nodded, curious. "What's up, Damon?" I asked, walking over to him. Damon's eyes locked onto mine, his expression serious. "I was wondering if you'd consider not going with Tyla back to the Cornrow pack," he said, his voice filled with emotion. I raised an eyebrow, surprised. "Why?" I asked, curious. Tyla spoke up, her voice soft. "Because, Jess, I need some time to heal. And everything in the Cornrow pack...it's just too much. It'll never let me heal." I nodded, understanding. I knew that Tyla had been through a lot, and the Cornrow pack was a constant reminder of her past. I couldn't blame her for wanting to get away from it all. "Okay, Tyla," I said, smiling softly. "I'll

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY Two DAMON point of View As we sat there, hands clasped together, the tension between us was palpable. It was as if the weight of our confessions had lifted a burden off our shoulders, and we were finally free to express our true feelings. I looked into Tyla's eyes, and I saw the same desire reflected back at me. Without a word, I leaned in, my lips brushing against hers in a gentle, tender kiss. Tyla's response was immediate, her lips parting to deepen the kiss. I felt a surge of passion run through me, and I wrapped my arms around her, pulling her close. We kissed for what felt like hours, our lips locked together in a passionate, all-consuming kiss. I felt like I was home, like I had finally found the missing piece of my soul. As we broke apart for air, I looked into Tyla's eyes and saw the same love, the same desire reflected back at me. Without a word, I stood up, pulling her to her feet, and led her to the bedroom. We made love with a passion, a

It had been a long day, filled with tension and drama. Jessica safely tucked away in bed, I had a chance to unwind. Jessica had complained about feeling sleepy, and I had asked Tyla to put her to sleep. Iwas starting to relax when, I heard a soft voice behind me. "Damon, can I talk to you?" I turned to see Tyla standing in the doorway, her eyes hesitant. I nodded, gesturing for her to come in. She walked over to the couch and sat down beside me, her eyes fixed on mine. CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY TYLA Point of View I watched as Damon pulled out his phone and dialed a number. He spoke in a low tone, his words indistinguishable, but his expression told me that he was giving orders. Suddenly, a group of pack members appeared out of nowhere, their faces somber as they surveyed the scene before them. Damon nodded at them, and they quickly sprang into action. "Take Jessica's car and Jonathan's car away from here," Damon instructed, his voice firm. "Take them back to the cornrow pack." The pack members nodded, their movements swift and efficient as they worked to remove the cars from the scene. I watched, still trying to process everything that had happened. Damon turned to us, his eyes locking onto mine and Jessica's. "Let's get out of here," he said, his voice soft. "We'll take my car." Jessica nodded, her eyes still shining with tears. I followed her lead, my body feeling numb and disconnected. As we walked towards Damon's car, I couldn't help but

We both knew that Jonathan was beyond reason, and that our pleas were falling on deaf ears. We held each other tightly, waiting for the inevitable. I could feel Tyla's heart racing against mine, and I knew that she was bracing herself for the impact. I was doing the same, my mind racing with thoughts of our families, our friends, and our pack. We were going to leave them behind, and the thought was almost too much to bear. But then, just as Jonathan's finger was about to pull the trigger, we heard the sound of gunshots ringing out through the air. Tyla's grip on me tightened, and I felt her body tense up, preparing for the impact. But it never came. Instead, we heard Jonathan's cry of pain, and the sound of his body crashing to the ground. Tyla and I slowly opened our eyes, our hearts still racing with fear. That's when we saw him... Damon, standing
