Dylan could see the shock and fear in Alec's eyes but he quickly covered it up. “I don't understand, Mr. Knight; it's not unheard of for people to retire from the force.” Alec said as he put down his fork and knife and took a sip from his coke.

“Yes, I know it's not unheard of. A lot of people retire early, and then they move on to different fields, but not people like you, not people that had a bright future in front of them; I mean, if you stayed on, you would've been chief of police by now, so what happened Alec, why did you leave?” Dylan asked him.
