Advocate of goodwill

"Ms Elaine. Are you alright?" The doctor uttered. I sniffled.

"Yes, yes I am." I lied. I bit my lip because HE was the person on my mind. Would it dismantle our doctor-caregiver relationship if I asked him for help? I didn't want to.

Dr Rayleigh was my only source of light. I didn't want to push or scare him away.

But...

"Dr Rayeliegh, I am asking of you since I have no one to turn to. I need money-" I couldn't even complete my request when he asked,

"How much?" His voice was stern, stable yet soothing.

"I'm short of 3k, sir," I said, holding back a sob.

Almost immediately, he wire-transferred 4k USD. I was amazed. I got back on the call.

"Doctor, I asked for 3k-"

"I'm an advocate of goodwill, Ms Elaine. Don't think of anything. I know you're a struggling mother. You're the strongest warrior I've ever seen. My mother has been through the same. So please." Said he. My heart warmed up and I couldn't thank him enough.

The gratitude went on like a string of mantras until I pulled myself together. The card didn't decline this time.

After hanging up, I wiped the tears and turned to the ruckus outside. The commotion was building even before, but I didn't pay attention as I was busy managing myself.

I rushed out to see Leah and Logan in the centre of it. I gasped since Logan had his fangs deep into the neck of his victim.

"Logan! What the hell! Leave him this instant!" I yelled.

"No! Let him! This werewolf must be a rogue who dared touch my ass. In front of everyone!" Leah screamed and pulled me back.

"That's unreasonable! That doesn't mean the man has to be paralyzed!" I screamed out. I knew the aftereffects.

Suddenly, a volatile presence made the werewolves in the vicinity shudder.

What was this power?

At once, the male under Logan's harsh grip swung himself away. Tears stung his eyes as he loathed,

"My father will hear about this..."

The voice of a hurt man was heard. Suddenly, the young man, the victim, scrammed away.

The situation was bizarre, but I couldn't help but think the young man was a victim rather than a culprit. Especially since Leah paints the picture well, given Logan's blindness.

"We're going home," Logan announced.

"We should..." Leah uttered, wiping her drenched face. Crocodile tears, if I might say.

While I was riding the elevator with them, Leah suddenly requested.

"Elaine. Logan and I need to make a detour. Mind taking another transport home?" Leah asked. I stared at her, flabbergasted. On top of leaving the hefty restaurant bill on me, she dared to make requests like that.

"Fine. Whatever." I said and pressed the button for the next immediate floor to get down. It was the seventh.

The rooftop restaurant was part of a 5-star hotel. I heard growls, out of nowhere.

I stopped in my tracks and let my wolf take control, for alertness

"How could she do this to me, brother! She ruined my life!" The shaky voice of a young male cried. My eyes went wide. It was the same young man Logan attacked.

"I will do what's right, brother. You should wait for the decision. Can you do that for me?" The other voice, much mature and sensible, assured.

"Yes. I shall wait for you to ascend." The younger male sniffled and calmed down. Their interaction made me curious.

The other older male's voice was familiar too...

I didn't pay much attention to it.

I was concentrated on trying to find the route to the hospital. We were in the same city where my son was admitted. Logan wouldn't care if I returned by dawn. He would 'care' if I returned at sunrise.

A Ferrari suddenly growled close to my feet as I looked.

"Dr Rayleigh..." I uttered. He opened the door for me, towering over me.

"I assume you're here to see your son." He asked, despite looking at my fancy outfit.

"Yes, doctor. But I have no transport-"

"Hop on. I'm going in for a night shift." He said. I smiled and climbed in. The car ride was silent until we reached hospital parking lot.

"Dr Rayleigh...why did you help me?" I asked, even though he's told me why.

"Because my mother went through the same. However, no child deserves to see their mother in tears while they come to visit. I had to do what I had to." He gave a rare smile. That's when I noticed how his eye colors changed, just a little.

I didn't pay much attention to that.

We reached the floor and I scrubbed in as a visitor to see my son.

"Oh my Goddess..." I muttered out of happiness. After months of waiting, I could finally hug Jean.

"Mom...you're squeezing me." His little voice said. I gasped and pulled myself away.

"I'm just too happy, my love." I spoke behind the mask. We interacted for awhile until visitation expired.

I gathered my belongings and asked around for Dr Rayleigh's cabin. I had to thank him once more for everything.

"Dr Rayleigh?" I knocked on the door to see him talking to a man in a suit.

"He's Dr Norse, the president of this hospital and we need to talk to you. Perfect timing, Ms Elaine, Luna of Waterstone." Dr Rayleigh greeted. As the words left his mouth, my eyes were widened gradually.

How did he know where I belonged?

The discussion with the president of the hospital and Dr Rayleigh was fruitful.

I walled out with a bunch of papers in my hand and a huge smile on my face.

Olga prayed I'd never be able to leave the pack, because I would have nowhere to belong. But this opportunity changes everything.

The newfound confidence in me is monumental. And even more so since Dr Rayleigh insisted on driving me back to Waterstone all by himself.

It was strange.

How did Dr Rayleigh know? Did he ask Jean? Did he look deeper into our records?

Moreover...what was he?

Was he even human like he claims to be?
