Chapter 5

The police had not made any progress in the case for a long time, so they came to our house.

My mother reluctantly brought them to my room.

“This is your daughter’s room?” The police stared at the room in shock.

My room was right next to the servants’. It was the smallest room with the worst living conditions. It could not even compare to the servants’ quarters.

Feeling guilty, my mother said, “She chose it herself.”

When I first arrived at my family’s house, I did have a big room, but Naomi often said that I went to her room to demand her to go back to her true family. My parents thought that I needed to be taught a lesson.

So, they had me move to a servant’s room.

“Can we take this strand of hair?” The police picked up a strand of hair from the pillow.

“We have a few more questions. Please ask your other daughter to come down.”

Naomi was a little nervous when she saw the police, but she soon composed herself.
