"Mommy? Mommy!! Help! Help!!" Kara screamed, her arms flailing on the water, reaching something on the pool. Her eyes fixed on the toddler who had fallen on the water. Her eyes were already blinded by tears. She feels so helpless seeing her younger brother drown.
Kendra came in to see the commotion."You pushed him!?!" she blatantly shouted at her. "You are bad, Kara! Very bad!! Mommy!! Kendra, her stepsister screamed, her face flushed."What's wrong? What's happening??" Klarisse exclaimed and then she saw the tiny splashes on the pool. She stood there for a moment, too horrified to think. And when her senses finally came, she immediately jumped into the swimming pool and swan towards her drowning son. The water was warm on her skin, it feels good but she had no time for that. Her care lies to none other than to save her son. The woman retrieved the boy, unfortunately, he was not moving. He looks tiny in her arm as she dragged him to the side, her tears blinding her. She resuscitated him, repeated a few times, but no response. She repeats it again a few more times hoping for a miracle but nothing. The boy was dead. The woman wailed as she felt her world crumble on her.***"Mommy, please let me out! It's dark here. I don't want to be here! Please Mommy…" Kara cried. Her step mother, Klarisse shuts her again in the dark basement. This is her constant punishment. Sometimes, she's there for a day or two. Lucky if her father is around, she gets treated nicely but when he is not, everyday is a torture. Her stepmom terrifies her, ever since that accident, their relationship has turned sour. She would be scolded, at times will receive a lashing, or at worst be imprisoned in the basement. She hates it there, the darkness, dampness and silence terrifies her. She lumped near the door and cried herself to sleep.A soft kick wakes her, the door opens, a hard grip on her arm."You won't say a word to your father about this or else you'll get something worse!" Klarisse lashed out at her."Now go to your room and make yourself presentable. Your father is coming." She left her there. She stood up and slowly walked to her room."It serves you right, freak!" Kendra jeered at her as she passed by her. She pulled her hair hard enough, she grimaced. But she just let her be. It is better not to fight in her case because she will just give her more. Kendra knowing that Kara is not gonna fight back or do anything else just left after that. She went directly to the bathtub and sat there as the water from the faucet flowed and cooled her body. She listened to the water and tried to calm herself. She must look well, her father will be home after two months of being away due to a business trip. Finally, something lifts her spirits up.She gingerly walked to the dining room, the table is set. The delectable smell of foods wafting in the air. Everytime her father comes home, there must be a feast. Her father is a certified foodie himself and her stepmother make sure to cook all her father's favorites. Somehow, his father's homecoming is a good thing for her. At the span of his stay, she will be spared from her stepmom's wrath. But that would be it. As soon as he's out the door, her hell begins."Do I look nice, hon?" Klarisse gave a little twirl as Kendra looks at her. She had her hair done for today, made sure to wear the right amount of perfume and make up to accentuate her already beautiful face. She wears that LV dress she bought the other day, feeling the need to a dress up for her husband's homecoming. He has been away for two months now for a business trip in Hongkong. And she terribly missed him, she will make sure that he won't let her go after tonight's dinner."You look amazing, Mom! So beautiful!" Kendra exclaimed as she ogled at her mother's lovely dress."I want that dress too, Mom... " she added, pleading with her puppy eyes. Her mother immediately went to her and gave her kiss on the cheek."Of course, hon. I will buy something nicer for you. Don't you worry. Or maybe Dad has already bought you something pretty.... " she said to her daughter, now the girl is giddy with excitement. Kendra hugged her mother happily. While, Kara watch them in her seat. The telephone rings."Hello, Mrs. Klarisse Dawson?" a man's voice is on the other end of the line. Kara and Kendra perked up, hoping to hear the conversation."Yes, speaking… ""This is Officer Thorne from the San Juan City Police Station. Mr. Martin Dawson, your husband met an accident. His car crashes with another. He was rushed to the hospital but he didn't make it. I am sorry but he's dead."Klarisse heard the voice clearly but there is a buzz in her head and her knees felt like jellies under the sun. The telephone slid from her grip, her hands starts to tremble and she suddenly she needs support. She held on the table end but her strenght seemed to escape from her. Kendra immediately went to her mother's side, wondering what is it about. Klarisse is aghast, her mind fails to process the bad news."If you could just go to San Juan Medical Center... hello Ma'am? hello?" the voice echoed in the hall. This time Klarisse felt her world crumble again into pieces, she felt overwhelmed and trapped in the debris of her grief. She shook herself as her tears rain. She was just in there. Staring at the empty ceiling, feeling the world as it goes around her. In the warm glow of the lamp, her fears won't fade away. Just like all her other nights, this one is not different. She still cannot sleep no matter how she shut her eyes. Her brain is a train-wreck, nudging her to open her eyes and be alert of something not existing. And she complied. Her eyes darted from one dark corner to the next until it had scanned 360 over her tiny bedroom, at last it landed on her Stitch alarm clock, the long hand silently pointing to twelve. With a sigh, she jerked up, opened the drawer of her bedside table and groped for a tiny bottle -her saving grace. She took one of its pearlescent pills and swallowed it. She went back to bed and made it a point to look at her alarm clock and watch its little hand move second to second until her eyes drooped on their own, her brain numb and she gratefully succumbed to sleep. She's running as fast as she can but is n
"Are you alright?" It was a voice, so warm and crisp it melts in Kara's ears. When she looked up at the owner of the strong arms that caught her, he saw a pair of brown enigmatic eyes looking down at her. He has a perfectly chiseled face, his jaws were clenching, his skin bronze and smooth. His total aura is emanating with goodness. She gasped, is he an angel? She thought. But she could feel his arms, strong and hard. The man held her in a moment that seems like forever. He supported her to stand on her feet. She blinked off and blushed. Wait? She's blushing? And most importantly his savior was the same man in the elevator whom she freaked out. She blushed even more. The man walked to the top of the stairs to where Kendra is. She was speechless, perhaps was also taken by the man's heavenly charm. Her pink mouth was trying to find words but it cannot. "I saw what you did, and if I was not quick enough, you could have harmed her." his tone is threatening. Kend
"Where is she? What happened?!?" Martin, Kara's father demanded, shaking Kendra off. He has been looking for the children who were playing in the rest house's yard. After what seems to be forever, Kendra emerged from the woods, crying. "Martin, be careful with the child. You're hurting her!" Klarisse tore Kendra away from Martin's heavy grip. Her face agonized. "We were just playing hide and seek when she got tired of it." Kendra explained in between her sobs, wiping her tears and mucus. "She asked me to go exploring in the woods, I told her no because Daddy won't be happy if we go there." she added, still crying. "Then we came near an old wall. It is filled with vines and moss and it's damp. While we're playing there she tripped and fell back to the wall. Then, then… "Martin and Klarisse are listening intently to Kendra's tale. "Then the wall crumbled with Kara… " Kendra finished her story and cried even more."You see it was your daughter's idea!" Klarisse emphasiz
She's been here for hours now and has been screaming ever since. The dark had crept leaving the room in darkness. Kara is in a panic. She doesn't want to be left in this desolate stockroom nor stay here until somebody finds her. What if no one finds her? Will this place be her grave? She tried to focus, she must escape. Or the darkness will creep again and torment her. She needs a light. Her cellphone! She rummaged through her bag, where it is sitting at the bottom of her old, blue jansport bag. She opened the flashlight from her cell phone and somehow it broke the darkness. Is there a switch here? She thought and scanned the stockroom for any switch. There is one. She immediately went to it and clicked. Nothing. She banged the door with her fist now bruised. The windows have protective grills, she cannot pry those steel away. She looked at her cellphone, 15% battery. Oh no. Her sweat rolled on her face. "Anybody!! Helppp!!" she shouted at the top of her lungs. "Help me!!" she crie
"You?!" It was Kara's voiceless question, she never left her eye contact with this man. It was the same mysterious man whom she thought was a gruesome monster at school and had eventually saved her from Kendra. Now, here he is and saved her again in an accident that could have cost her life. "Are you a stalker?" It wasn't the question she was supposed to ask but it came up anyway. The man did not give up a hint of emotion this time, unlike their encounter at school. He gently put her back on her feet as he remained silent. "Who are you? Why are you here? Are you following me?!" Kara's tirade of questions. But the man just turned his back to her, preparing to walk away. She instantly grabbed his steel-hard, muscular arm. He looked at her with such intensity that made the heat creep to her cheeks. Good thing it was dim and whether she is blushing or not, it is not obvious. She instantly withdrew her hands and kept them beside her. Still she was waiting for an answer yet
"Anything huh?" the older man stroked his chin and thought of what he should take in return to this young man's request. "My Lord, I am willing to give up anything for her - for you to grant my request." The younger man asked fervently, he is now clinging to his leg. He grabbed the young man's hair and made him look directly into his eyes. And what he had seen were eyes welling with determination. This guy is tough and has already made his decision. "You love her that much you are willing to bend the rules of our world?" His coal-black eyes were burning with conviction. "What if she can't love you back?"The young man's eyes flickered in a second, then it returned to its fierceness. "She would love me… " was his only reply. Aestraeus' laughter filled the room. He tapped the young man's shoulders heavily, multiple times. "And you know what will happen if she doesn't , right? You will fade in despair and that would be the saddest death.""I am not afraid, my Lord. Death
