Chapter 36: Nemesis

[3rd POV—Damon]

Damon watches Cara’s still asleep figure. She seemed to be more relaxed than those other nights after the incident, and she hadn’t woken up screaming, which was good, especially knowing how restless she had been these past few weeks.

His gaze wandered to the pinkish mar on her shoulder. It was a small cut but one of many.

He failed to protect her, and she wasn’t wrong to put the blame on him for what happened.

Walsh is still alive, and he wasn’t done tormenting him day by day.

Thinking of whom, Damon remembered he still had yet to check that dick and his status after he cut the skin on his chest open.

Leaning down, he places a lingering kiss on her shoulder, just beside the discolored skin. As much as he wished to stay for a bit longer, the time wasn’t on his side. He still has much to do before dawn breaks, and it would be too risky for him to be seen in daylight leaving the premises.
