The white beast overpowered the brown one. The gap in their strength was too obvious not to be noticed. However, the brown wolf faced the stronger one head-on despite its injured leg. It was not fighting back neither tried to escape. It was just there, standing still while getting intimidated by the larger beast.

Layla wandered her eyes around to find anything that could help her with her current situation. Her master’s true form still fazed her shivering body. She had an idea that her predator could be him, like why would he bring her to his place after almost getting devoured by the wolf she met in the middle of the forest? It was him all along, and she was waiting for him to confess his true identity, and yet he actually shifted in front of her.

“Argh!” Layla groaned after moving her legs underneath the rubles of the table. She felt an excruciating pain digging through her bone, and she guessed it could be something hard as iron that plunged into

‘King?’ Layla’s curiosity surged up when she heard what the stranger referred her master. ‘Is he like the king of the kingdom? A demon like him?’ She moved her gaze between both men while trying to comprehend their conversation. She was forced to look away and laugh when she spotted their naked lower body which made her feel embarrassed for them. Truly, when her eyes were covered before, she never thought about genitals and genders but when she met Zev who couldn’t avoid getting himself naked whenever he shifted, she began to realize what the word ‘consciousness’ meant.“Fovre? I don’t recall hearing that name before. What is that? A clan of lowly guard wolves abandoned by the weres?” Zev raised a brow at Lucian. He was clearly looking down at him despite him showing respect. Layla thought her master was born narcissistic, and she couldn’t help him with that. No, when she had no idea how other people were supposed to act and live their lives. She had already too muc

“Me?” Layla voiced out when the men looked in her direction. “H-hey! I’m still stuck in here because of you. You can’t just point your finger at me like I am some kind of vicious woman.” Layla turned to her master with begging eyes. She needed to start acting, or she wouldn’t be able to witness another sunrise in her life. She knew exactly how Zev handle things and ‘ killing’ was not something hard for him to decide depending on his mood. “Master, say something. I have no idea what he was talking about. Please don’t give me that look,” her voice went soft when she noticed him glaring at her.“Right. I always wanted to ask you this, little Layla. Were you sent here to kill me instead of getting killed?”Layla shook her head repeatedly. She felt intimidated by the man’s voice. If she’d say anything that would displease him, she could guess what he’d do to her. “I know nothing except that I was fed by poison for years. I also told you about it, Master.

The sound of crickets and owls from the surrounding forest at night was as loud as the frogs croaking during rainy days. The moon was hidden behind the clouds, slowly blown by the wind. It was almost midnight, three hours since Zev put Layla to bed. It had been that long for him to endure the soft whimpers coming from her. She would yap and yip some time then suddenly grunt. Like an adorable young pup she was, Zev tolerated her. But his patience had its limit. When Layla started nibbling on his bare chest, he was forced to push her away while kneading his brows.“Layla, stop what you’re doing.” His voice was calm and calculated but with a hint of agitation. Zev was in deep thought about the possible purpose why the blood tribe wanted his person when the said lady disrupted him. “I’ll throw you outside if you won’t stop,” he murmured when Layla reached out for his hair and pulled them softly. ‘It turns out she’s now recovered. Hah, she might think she’s desperate and

Layla’s words rang inside Zev’s head. It was like a bell that kept ringing and stirring his brain. He looked at the lady’s innocent face. She was still waiting for his response which made him feel more awkward.‘How can she blatantly say that? Was it an invitation? A warning? A threat?!’ He couldn’t comprehend her motive by what she said. Furthermore, his hands were still on her body as he hovered over her. Zev swore he had no idea how to make things more uncomfortable.“Master, your face is red,” Layla said upon noticing his reddened face. Why wouldn’t his face become red? His blood probably rushed thus it turned red. And it was all because of her stupid statement.“Master?” she called him again. Zev threw her a menacing look, and he hoped that she understood why he was like that, or he could just throw her out again and feed her to the lions instead of w

The smooth texture of the white, cotton shirt tucked inside the khaki, wool pants was a breath of refreshment for Layla who used to wear rags. She tied her long, dark brown hair in a ponytail and checked herself once more in front of the mirror before leaving the room. A bright smile appeared on her face as she walked down the staircase headed to the huge, empty living room.“Oh,” she quietly exclaimed when she saw her master conversing with another man. The men looked in her direction, and she gave them a forced smile with a timid greeting saying ‘hi’.“Come over here, little Layla.” Zev gestured his hand, calling her to sit beside him.Layla nodded her head and walked to sit on his side. She held her head and was surprised to be welcomed by the sharp look in her master’s eyes. “Did… did I make you wait that long?” she asked with weary written all over her fac

The blazing sunlight could burn the skin yet Layla seemed to enjoy the day without any dangers coming her way yet. With the pouch she carried along, she hummed a random melody she thought was pleasant to listen to. The time was moving fast, and she still had no idea where exactly she would go.“Ah! Thank goodness my wounds were healed though I don’t know how it was possible. But this map is really hard to understand. How can I find the herb?” Layla muttered while studying the map in her hands after deciding to take a short break. She sat on the giant tree root while leaning her back on its trunk. Her brows furrowed deeper as she continued staring at the hand-drawn map made by her master. “Hmm… that man said that I could find the herb as long as I don’t leave the borders. So it could be anywhere on this forest,” she said, staring more closely at the piece of paper that Zev gave her before she left the mansion.&nb

Layla didn’t know what went wrong with her escape plan. She disregarded the distance she walked towards the south just to run away from the strangers she met. She thought everything went according to her strategy, but she was more than surprised to see her pursuers waiting for her ahead. Her mind was not only confused but was also running out of ideas about why she was still followed. The flood brought her to another part of the forest. The water receded like its only purpose was to distribute a little amount on every part of the woods. Layla found herself lying on the ground with her back. And when she opened her eyes, the last people she wanted to see were there, staring at her while waiting until she could finally grasp her situation.“Hoho~ we met again, little girl,” the red-haired man muttered while smiling at her. His smile wasn’t kind at all, and she had to reason to return it, so she gave him a scowl- the kind she always saw painted on her

“Is that Layla?” Zev mumbled to himself when he heard the high-pitched familiar scream. He knew for sure that aside from his little stupid, no other woman was in the whole peninsula. “Lucian, make sure to make the trap you set work properly,” he reminded the man who was quietly doing whatever he said.“Layla should be somewhere on the river,” the white-haired said and headed to the nearby river just a few meters ahead. “Prepare yourself, those intruders should be giving her a hard time. I want her alive, not dead,” was what Zev said before rushing to his destination, leaving the other who didn’t have enough time to respond anything.‘This should be it,’ Zev thought while looking around. There was no trace of interruption in the movement of water on the river and no signs of Layla yet.“AHH!” It was Layla’s scream from above that caught his attention. Zev quickly raised his head to check only to see the lady whom he thought was stupi

“NO!”Zev cried as he watched Layla end her life. Her beautiful yet sad smile remained on her face as she chose to end everything with her. Zev’s world seemed to stop when he saw her lifeless body fell on the ground. He couldn’t move an inch, but he knew once he gave up, it would be really over.“Layla!” Victor cried and rushed towards Layla’s dead body. He cradled her in his lap with tears in his eyes, flowing endlessly like the stream. “Don’t die, please. Don’t die! I’ll listen to whatever you say, just don’t die, please.” It was a rare sight to see the vampire lord crying for someone else’s life.It was only a few minutes ago when Zev was still fighting against Victor and Layla’s sudden decision to stop their battle by taking her life brought them back to senses. She had already decided to do it beforehand, Zev could tell she had other reasons. Judging by how she chose the right time to take action and caught both of their attack

“Awoooo~!”Layla snapped back to reality when she heard Zev’s howling. She was certain it was him. No one but Zev could make sure intimidating howl. She turned to face the direction where the alpha kept fighting the vampire lord. They were both filled with bruises and cuts which healed immediately anyway. Knowing how both vampires and werewolves could heal themselves during the battle, knocking either of them would be challenging.“I should do something,” Layla said, determined to stop the battle. Even after what Darius said, she couldn’t just let her sacrifice be in vain. She hoped that Zev would keep his words, and she trusted him, however, she couldn’t be too certain about Victor. The latter might do something that could lead the alpha to kill him. Besides, Darius also mentioned Victor’s plan. It wasn’t like he was still into taking her away from Zev, but what Victor said when he chall

The chaos continued.Layla stood in the middle while everyone around her fought until their last breath. Her mind was telling her to do something to stop them, but she couldn’t even take a step. After using up most of her life force in that one spell, she expected to get weak. It was her negligence to think about the consequences once those who already died in battle come back alive. Layla certainly didn’t expect them to continue the battle which already costed them their lives. And just when she was willing to sacrifice and take all the blame, they all started to waste the second chance she gave.‘No, this is not good. If this continues, the forest will fall ruined again.’ Layla wandered her eyes around to find anyone who could help her stop the battle. But to no avail, everyone seemed busy throwing their lives away. “Don’t… Zev, you promise… Don’t fight,” she whispered while reaching out her hand towards Zev’s direction.“Layla!”

  • Midnight Feast   Chapter 140

“Since you’ve already returned to the realm, I’m expecting you to come back once you settled everything on earth,” the king of deity told Layla. “In any case you changed your mind about something, you should come and let me know about it. You’ll never know, I might grant you a wish,” he added before sending her back to earth to complete what she had started.“Aw!” Layla groaned when she felt something hard hitting her head. She opened her eyes to see Levius glaring at her. “Levius?” The name naturally came out of her mouth as if she’d known its owner. ‘Where am I? I was just talking to the king…’ Layla rubbed her forehead and looked around. “I see… So, that’s what happened,” she mumbled to herself.“What are you even doing down there?” It was Lucian again. His voice couldn’t get any louder. “His Majesty is gravely wounded, and you’re just still in a daze! What kind of lover are you? Get up and do something usefu

“How stubborn. This young deity seems not satisfied with what you’ve arranged for her fate.”“Now, don’t start blaming me here. It took me a few decades to have them meet each other. I’m doing the best I can!”“Yeah? But you chose a hard path for our little deity. She was sincere with her feelings and the werewolf guy loves her. They deserve to be happy!”“Well, why don’t you leave them alone? Maybe they’ll find happiness when they no longer love each other. Sometimes, I think it’s all because you let them fall in love, that’s why they have to suffer.”“Nope, it's not my fault. They love each other and I love them too. I made sure to strengthen their bond no matter how difficult their life would be. Just like what I have said, you should be generous enough and let them be together as much as they want!&rdq

  • Midnight Feast   Chapter 138

The dire situation they were in made Layla give up on questioning Zev’s sheepish grin. She wanted to hear the story behind his mischievousness while they were supposed to run for their life, chased by a tornado which came out of nowhere. Well, she guessed it was all Levius’ doing. And just like that, Zev glided in the air in his robe with her in his arms. They might be in a dangerous situation, but Layla couldn’t suppress the excitement she felt as they were running away.‘This feels so good. If only he carried me like this before when he sprinted back to the mansion after hunting wild boars, I might have fallen in love with him earlier,’ Layla thought with a wide smile spread on her face.“Go faster, Zev! Levius’ minion is getting closer!” Layla yelled and Zev did what he was told. They headed to the forest, which no longer looked like one. The trees were all burnt,

Layla’s scream was dissolved in the air. Time seemed to stop for her when she saw how Zev received the impact from Levius’ attack. Her heart stopped beating for a second before the basement blasted into smithereens, leaving her and Levius on the safe side while the others who were caught up with the explosion ended up severely injured.“Zev!” Layla shouted. The smoke was too thick, and she couldn’t see anything. “Levius! Let go of me! I said, let go of me!” She struggled in his hold, but her effort was pointless. Levius turned a deaf ear on her and continued shooting the same energy call, causing the earth to rumble because of its powerful impact. She tried to warn him, but failed. It seemed like Levius was using some spell that made them invisible somehow. Zev knew she was there but couldn’t hear her at all. And even with how loud she screamed, he didn’t show any reaction and was still c

  • Midnight Feast   Chapter 136

“Just like I expected, the fire didn’t spread near the mansion. It would be the safest place to gather everyone and discuss the plan you proposed,” Zev said when they reached the estate. Layla just nodded her head as a response, even though she knew he wouldn’t see it.A loud crash on the door caught everyone’s attention in the living room. Layla didn’t miss the fierce glance in Lucian’s and the other’s eyes when Zev bolted inside the house by bumping, breaking the huge and thick wooden entrance.“Your Majesty,” everyone said in chorus as they bent down all at the same moment.Layla moved down from Zev’s back and awkwardly bowed her head. She was too embarrassed to look at anyone.“You just came back in time,” Lucian muttered as he stepped forward. He threw Layla a quick glance but ignored her when she tried to look back at
