Chapter Begins

"You are not my mother."

Those words continued to linger in Mokunfayo's head, even as hours turned to days and days to over a week.

Stephen's outburst had left her severely shocked. She couldn't help wondering how long he had held the thought in his head—out of the abundance of the heart and all that. Did he think of her often? And what did Stephen take her as?

Eventually the questions changed dimension. Where was Stephen's mother really? What happened to her? Who was she even?

Mokunfayo's brother had never brought the woman to meet the family or anything like that when he was alive and considering the circumstances that led to their meeting, Mokunfayo had no way of knowing. Not a clue. 

None of the children liked to talk about it and Mokun never pressed. She understood that they would talk whenever they were ready and she tolerated that. At least
