Chapter ninety-five.
Mokunfayo Badmus:
Chioma must have thought it was a ploy of mine to change her mind, for she piped up almost immediately. "Amaka is going to leave this pace with her mother–"
"I believe Aunt Rain has earned the right to say a proper goodbye mom. You owe her that much." I was proud of Amaka when she interrupted her mother in a polite manner. It was quite a relief that I'd at least, one of my wards has turned out fine.
Chioma had no other option but to nod her approval with a watery smile plastered on her face.
I blatantly refused when Mike offered to drive me and settled for hailing the next available cab I found after wobbling my way out of the cathedral with my neice in tow.
Chapter Begins"You are not my mother."Those words continued to linger in Mokunfayo's head, even as hours turned to days and days to over a week.Stephen's outburst had left her severely shocked. She couldn't help wondering how long he had held the thought in his head—out of the abundance of the heart and all that. Did he think of her often? And what did Stephen take her as?Eventually the questions changed dimension. Where was Stephen's mother really? What happened to her? Who was she even?Mokunfayo's brother had never brought the woman to meet the family or anything like that when he was alive and considering the circumstances that led to their meeting, Mokunfayo had no way of knowing. Not a clue.None of the children liked to talk about it and Mokun never pressed. She understood that they would talk whenever they were ready and she tolerated that. At least
Mokunfayo Badmus:I watched my sister recount the horryfying tale of all the terrible things I'd done to her in the past few weeks; I stood in awe as Olabisi admitted to visiting Alex on the said day, but he had broke if off with her with the information that he was engaged and the news had been what upset her to cause the accident that almost claimed her life and when she told me about it all, I'd went wild with a diabolical plan to get back at Alex and his very supportive friends. She narrated how I'd stabbed her, on her way to recovery in her hospital room, with a knife when she refused to play her part in my lie, how I'd fed her with tranquilizers when she determined to live through her stab wounds and denied anyone that could help access to see her, how her best friend had finally found a way to come through for her in the hospital and with the help of the very doctor I employed to carry out my devious tasks, faked her unconsciousness and wa

I decided on not making things more difficult for her so I refrained from engaging
It was a case of running from frypan into fire when Mokunfayo bolted out of her supposed engagement party into the clutches of the bad kind of policemen. And when Mike –a handsome but deadly assassin– comes to her rescue in the nick of time, sparks begin to fly.The problem was; it was supposed to be a one time meet up, getting stuck together was not supposed to be included in the messy mix.But there they were; a hurt, bitter, cold, calm and collected lawyer cohabiting in the same space with a hot, panty-dropping, rash, hardened criminal. It is right to assume that more than sparks would fly.Opposites, they say, attract Mokun and Mike's case wasn't different. But with dark pasts, family secrets, pain and all the bitterness in the mix, would their attraction
