Chapter 22

Alicia's POV

I carefully put the iron I was holding back in its place, and a wave of regret washed over me for having raised my hand against the stranger I had only just encountered.

"I apologize sincerely," I said, noticing that he hadn't made any aggressive move. Despite my anger, fatigue, and weariness, I acknowledged that the bond between mates was still there. In an instant, I sensed that he felt it too.

"No, no, it's alright. Don't worry. I can see you've been through a tough time. We can address the issue of trust later," the stranger reassured me. I found myself gazing at him, captivated by his calm demeanor, which was unlike anyone I had ever met before.

"Are you usually this way?" I inquired as I sat down on the bed gently.

"I'm not sure I understand. What were you expecting?" he asked, catching me off guard. I stared back, amazed at how someone could remain so composed, even after I had just accidentally hit him with a candle stand.
