"Do you think he knows?" Patrick asked his mother as they sat in a cafe opposite the hospital. Carla had driven Patrick to the hospital for a check up.

Carla stared the smoothie she had ordered, looking disinterested in the content. "Your father knows nothing, he is only playing detective."

Patrick looked confused, "what do you mean by playing detective?"

"The first time he hit you over the firewall breakage, he was only just trying to see what your reaction might be. Ryan likes to believe he is a smart psychologist, but he keeps forgetting that not everyone will fall for his trick." She explained

"Are you saying, he was only trying to be sure we know nothing about it?"

Carla laughed lightly, "I have lived with your father for thirty years of my life, Patrick. You think I wouldn't know him enough?"

"How long has he been abusing you?"
