Riley’s POV

I had just gotten summoned by the court. The summons had arrived just after breakfast, a crisp white envelope bearing the court’s official seal. My stomach had churned as I read the formal, almost chillingly polite, request for my presence. I knew this was coming. Norman had taken the step to let our marriage go public, just before he went for a quick journey with Chadwick. I could also understand one thing, Norman’s sudden announcement of our marriage had sent ripples of shock through the kingdom, and I knew the court wouldn’t take it lying down.

Now, I was on my way to the court as it was close to the time stipulated in the letter. Norman wasn't around to escort me. He had left for an important meeting yesterday noon and wouldn't be coming back until later today. Although I wasn't bothered about his absence, I would face the men of the court and try to be knowledgeable in my dealings with them.

After walking a while, I entered the grand hall, my heart hammering against my ribs. The room was filled with the scent of old wood and polished marble, and the air crackled with an unspoken tension. The faces of these noble men, were a mixture of curiosity, disapproval and outright hostility. I recognized Mr. Crestwood, his usual jovial expression replaced by a look of grave concern.

Elder Thomas, a man I had no much relationship with and only recognized from afar led the questioning. His face seemed permanently etched with disapproval. His voice was smooth, almost oily, as he asked about the circumstances of my marriage to Norman. I answered each question carefully, my voice steady despite the tremor in my hands. I spoke of our connection, of the bond we shared, trying to convey the depth of our feelings without revealing too much. I knew most of these men here would use any of my slip ups against me so I was being careful to avoid that.

“And your relationship with the other princes?” Elder Thomas asked, his eyes narrowing slightly. “Is it…similarly close?”

“We are…acquainted,” I replied, choosing my words carefully. “But my relationship with Norman is…unique.”

Elder Thomas chuckled, a dry, humorless sound. “Unique? Is it now? Rumors abound, Princess Riley,” he paused then muttered, “That's if I can call you a princess, considering the unacceptable circumstances surrounding your marriage to our noble prince.” He gave me a disdainful look, pausing before he continued. “As I was saying, there are rumors. Rumors of a… particular closeness with not one, but two of the other princes. Kirk and Damon, to be precise.”

Closeness with Kirk and Damon?

My breath hitched. Who the hell gave them that information? Someone must be out to completely destroy me? And this person or persons reports whatever nonsense to these men of the court? My silence seemed to confirm his suspicions. A collective gasp rippled through the room. The other men of the court exchanged shocked glances, their whispers buzzing around me like angry bees.

“So, it’s true,” Elder Thomas said, his voice dripping with disdain. “You claim to be mated to three princes? Tell me, Princess Riley, from what esteemed family do you hail? What noble lineage grants you the right to… monopolize the affections of our noble princes?”

My face burned with shame. I stammered, trying to form a coherent response. “I…I don’t…”

“No noble lineage, I presume?” Elder Thomas cut me off, his voice sharp as a knife. He turned to the other members of the court, his voice rising in volume. “This woman, this… commoner, this… slave…”

The word hung in the air, heavy and suffocating. My blood ran cold. Slave. He dared to call me a slave? My hands clenched into fists, my nails digging into my palms. I wanted to scream, to lash out, to defend myself against this blatant injustice. But I knew any outburst would only fuel their prejudice.

Suddenly, the doors to the hall burst open. Norman stood there, his face a mask of fury, his eyes blazing with a cold fire. He strode towards Elder Thomas, his voice coming out in a low growl. “Don’t you ever call my wife a slave again.”

The room fell silent. Every eye was fixed on Norman, his presence radiating power and authority. He stood before me, a shield against their hostility, his hand protectively gripping mine. In that moment, despite the fear and uncertainty churning inside me, I felt a surge of hope. He was here. He would protect me. We would face this together. But even as I clung to that hope, a cold dread settled in my stomach. This was just the beginning. The fight for our love, for our right to be together, had just begun. And I knew it wouldn't be easy.

My thoughts raced, a whirlwind of fear and anger and defiance. How dare they question me, judge me, reduce me to nothing more than a slave? I was Riley. Nate did more than this but I didn't give up on myself. I was strong. I was resilient. I had survived worse than this. And I wouldn’t let them break me. I wouldn't let them tear us apart. I squeezed Norman's hand, drawing strength from his presence. We would fight this. We would win. I had to believe that. Because if I didn't, the weight of their prejudice, of their hatred, would crush me.

I looked at Norman, at the fierce determination in his eyes, and I knew, with a certainty that went beyond logic, that we would find a way. We had to. We would forge our own path and triumph against all the odds against us.

Why bother?" I dared not talk back to the Alpha of the southern territories, but not when I was on the brink of death. Stripped and bruised to the floor with nothing but a ripped brown dress and the ache in my soul to be freed from all this. "Why don't you just kill me?" I spat the blood in my mouth to the floor, pinning my gaze to the floor, not daring to look at Alpha Nate in his beautiful dark eyes. His commanders looked quite impatient, glancing at their wristwatches now and then with heavy sighs as though waiting for someone to meet them at the Pack borders. I scooted by the corner of the empty room gazing blankly at the middle-aged man in an immaculately tailored suit as he marched my way, leaned into me, his blue eyes were all I could see before he strengthened. "Strip her of all filth, we present her to Prince Norman in two hours."The perfectly coiffed lady in the room doubled over leading me to the connecting room. After a while of bathing, hairdo, and beautiful floral dress, I looked pretty in the mirror. "Can you tell me what my thoughts are right now?" The tall and imposing man raised his chin in subtle challenge when I met him by the door. My horror began. I knew nothing of his thoughts. I bit my tongue and tried not to shake my head as he led me through the long and pearly hallway. I didn't expect it, but they clothed and fed me. RILEY'S POVPrince Norman took his seat at the head of the long conference table flanked by gruff faces of young and elderly noblemen. Mr. Chadwick pointed me to a seat in the middle of the table before he exited the conference room. The occupants of the conference room regarded me momentarily before they glued their gazes to the Prince. This was it. The meeting began, all I could hear remained what everyone else in the room heard, no matter how hard I listened, stared, and prayed to the goddess to save me this one last time, I heard nothing out of the ordinary. Thirty minutes into the meeting, the notepad before me was still as blank as my mind, fifteen more minutes before this meeting was over. The goddess chose to ignore me. As always. My gaze wandered to Prince Norman, his attention too vested in the white-haired man's words to want to pay any glance my way. In no time, Prince Norman got to his feet. The meeting ended. My breath ceased. The blank notepad was a subtle reminde

NORMAN'S POV"She is wolfless," Dr. Walker, an exceptional Pack doctor, handed the results of the tests carried on Riley to me. Now, that explains it. My wolf had the feeling something was off about this listener. "Was she able to perform her first tasks?" Dr. Walker tossed the pen in his hand on his desk, waiting for my reply. "I don't think so." Chadwick imagined it was from stress but I knew otherwise. RILEY'S POVPrince Norman Edelman my fated mate? Or should I say, second chance mate? How was it possible? His proximity knocked out every breath in me. His words had the worst effect on me. I gaped at the man towering before me in the plush bedroom he offered me to stay. My destiny couldn't get any messier. Any funnier. I dared not laugh. This man wasn't the type to appreciate humor. Definitely not the type to settle for a wolfless girl. If Alpha Nate could reject me then this great Lycan Prince certainly won't miss a beat. Maybe my destiny was to pine away all alone like the rest of the Wyels without gifts. I shook my head at his last question. Never in the world would I have imagined this breathtaking Prince was my second chance mate. The mate bond was hard to recognize, his scent, hard to tell. It would've been different if I had a wolf. The same vagueness when Alpha Nate popped out of nowhere to declare himself my mate seized my mind as I remained transfixed before Norman. Hi

Riley’s POVA soft knock on my door pulled me from my thoughts. I’d been sketching, trying to capture the way the afternoon light slanted through the windows, painting the room in shades of gold and amber. I opened the door to find Norman standing there, his jaw tight, his fists clenched at his sides. Even without him saying a word, I knew something was wrong. The air around him crackled with tension.“Norman? What is it?” I asked, my voice laced with concern. He forced a smile, a pale contrast of his usual impassive expression. “Nothing. Just came back from the court. I didn't see you in my chamber so I thought you'd be here.”I raised an eyebrow, unconvinced. He paced the room restlessly, his silence more telling than any words could have been. My heart sank. His visit to the court hadn’t gone well. I knew it. I had known he wouldn't have it easy, that he'd face resistance — resistance he’d face from those who clung to tradition, to the old ways. He’d brushed off my concerns, confid

Norman’s POVBy the time I get back to my suite, I couldn't find Riley anywhere around. I understand immediately she must have gone back to her room. I still needed to see her so I stepped out of my room, my mind reeling with the discussion I had with the court. I closed the door gently behind me, and immediately set out to go to Riley's part of the huge pack house.I hadn't taken two steps when Damon suddenly appeared before me, his presence as sudden and unexpected as a storm cloud on a clear day. His face was like a thundercloud, his eyes blazing with a cold fury that would have affected any other person, but not me. "You," he growled, pointing at me. I didn't fail to notice the accusation that rang deep in his voice. "Why would you do this? Why would you marry my mate?"His words struck me as both absurd and amusing. His mate? What the hell was he talking about? Riley was no one's possession, a fact I was about to make abundantly clear. A chuckle escaped my lips, a sound that see

Riley’s POVMy hand trembled slightly as I pushed open the door to my room, my mind still replaying the unsettling conversation with Meredith. I’d expected the quiet solitude of my own space, a place to gather my thoughts and steel myself for whatever lay ahead. Instead, I found Damon. He stood by the door, his back to me, his posture—somewhat rigid, his very presence brought a feeling of unease inside of me. Surprise morphed into confusion, then a prickle of fear. I didn't know why, but my heart seem to beat faster seeing him standing here. What was he doing here? I swallowed a spittle then opened my mouth, "Damon?" I called, my voice hesitant. "What… what are you doing here?"He turned, his gaze meeting mine, and the breath caught in my throat. His eyes, usually warm and teasing, were now cold and sharp, like shards of ice. He didn’t answer, instead, he just continued to stare at me, his silence more unnerving than any angry outburst. He took a step towards me, and another, and the

Riley's POVI walked out of Norman's suite, my mind preoccupied with the court's decision. I needed to change clothes and get some other things done, but my thoughts were stuck on Norman and the possibility of him sending me back to Hornside. Even when he had promised he'd never do something like that, I couldn't help but think of the possibility of that happening. I let the thoughts off my head as I walked down the hallway, I thought about my wolf awakening and wondered if there's a slight chance of using my ability as a listener to help Norman. Maybe, just maybe, I could find a way to make things right. But before I could get lost in my thoughts further, I stumbled upon a wall that pushed me back slightly. I looked up to see Meredith's cold face glaring at me, her eyes flashing with anger. I felt a surge of annoyance, but I didn't let it get the better of me."I can see you suddenly became blind," Meredith sneered, her voice dripping with hatred as she marched closer to me. "Tell m

Norman's POVI stood before the round table of the court, my eyes fixed on Mr. Crestwood and the other kingmakers. They were the ones who would decide my fate, determine whether I would be allowed to pursue the throne. And now, they were telling me that my marriage to Riley was a problem."Norman, you have committed a great atrocity by marrying a girl under the crescent moon," one of the kingmakers said, his voice stern. "You must send her back to Hornside and marry another, hence that will void your first marriage."I felt my heart kick in anger at their words. How could they ask me to abandon Riley, the woman I had come to care for? I thought about her innocent smile, her laughter, and her determination—everything that endeared me to her. I couldn't possibly come to terms with leaving her, not because these men here want it that way."I understand that I may have broken the Moonclak law," I begin, trying to keep my tone calm. Riley's POVI woke to an unfamiliar sensation, a tingling feeling that spread through every part of my body. The room, too, felt strange, too grand and opulent, a stark contrast to the simple, and portable room I was used to. My eyes drifted over the plush furnishings, the rich tapestries adorning the walls, the sunlight streaming through the large windows, the strange artworks of powerful wolves. All was beautiful, breathtaking even, but it totally felt… alien.I stared around briefly, then slowly, the memories of last night flooded back, causing my stomach to churn loudly. Norman. His touch, his scent, the way he’d looked at me, a mixture of tenderness and possessiveness that had both thrilled and frightened me. He’d taken me to a place I’d never been before, a place of pure sensation, where only he and I existed. He’d marked me, claimed me as his. It still felt surreal, it had all happened so fast.A blush crept up my cheek as I recalled the intimacy we’d shared, the way my body ha
