Chapter Forty-Seven

Ryan stood next to the hospital bed his fists clenching. Reid stood with Joseph and the nurse who’d called them close to the door.

“How do you just lose a patient? She was on a drip, too weak to even walk!” Anger radiated from him and he turned towards the nurse.

“Like I said, Alpha Ryan. I did my rounds and she was asleep. When I returned an hour later, she was gone and I called you immediately,” the nurse whispered. Fear was evident in her face and in her scent.

“You said the window was open?” Reid asked in a much gentler tone of voice.

“Yes, the window was wide open and there were no scents in the room other than hers,” she answered.

“Why did you leave, Joseph? It’s your duty to protect her!” Ryan was pointing a finger at him and Joseph glared back.

“She didn’t run. I’m telling you now she didn’t run. I don’t care what you think or what you say,” Joseph retaliated.

“Did you tell her that she’s the prime suspect in Britney’s murder?”
