One

The room was spinning. The drink that I had had was almost finished. But I couldn’t remember how many drinks I had had. Drinking wasn’t something that I normally did. But it had been a shitty week. My father, the Alpha of my wolfpack, had fallen into a coma and no one knew why. The doctors and healers had tried everything but he couldn’t wake up. On top of everything, my ex-boyfriend kept on coming around again.

            I wasn’t sure why.

We’d dated for a year. My father had hated him. He kept on telling me that he wasn’t my mate and I shouldn’t have dated him because it was doing my mate a disservice. But there was something about Jack that had drawn me in. He could be charming when he wanted to be. I’d also been convinced that eventually, he would recognize me as my mate.

Then the rumors started. Rumors of him at clubs with different girls from different packs. Betas. Gammas. Anyone that was higher than me, the Omega who couldn’t inherit her father’s role as Alpha. No, in order to keep my family’s pack together, if my father died, I would have to either marry an Alpha or my mate.

My mate hadn’t appeared yet. So, right when my father fell sick, I broke up with Jack. I thought that maybe I was being punished somehow by the goddess for not being with my mate. But that was over a month ago and my father still hadn’t woken up. In the meantime, my Step Mother, the woman my father had married after my mother disappeared, had been running around Moon Stone Pack acting like she owned the place.

She had said that I either had to marry someone she wanted me to so she could help the pack keep power or leave. I left. I knew my father wouldn’t want me marrying some random stranger. I might have been an omega, with little power and no wolf, but I was still the daughter of an Alpha. There was always the chance that I could still have a mate out there. Someone that would claim me, and help me take my pack.

But my father was near death and no one had shown. My Step Mother, Quinn, was someone that was a beta from a powerful wolfpack that everyone had wanted to marry. She had a coveted white wolf and was powerful enough she could shift anytime she wanted. Instead of being trapped by the full moon. I had no doubt she was already entertaining prospective husbands for when my father…

I shook my head. I didn’t want to think about it.

“Miss?” I looked up. There was an omega waiter coming over with a drink on a tray.

            “Yes?” I said.

The waiter smiled at me. “This drink is for you, on the house.”

            “Thank you.”

I didn’t really need another drink. The room was already spinning. But the more I thought about Quinn in my father’s house, looking for her new husband before he was already dead, the angrier and sadder I got. If I actually had a wolf, I would have felt them then. I didn’t have a one so all I felt was empty.

I took the drink. It was a bright, blue thing that had glitter swirling with it. It tasted like starlight and secrets. The last thing I remembered seeing was a tall guy staring at me across from the other side of the bar, glaring at the waiter. The stranger was tall, with broad shoulders, long brown hair, and dark eyes. The room started to spin. My head started to pound.

“Little Omega,” I heard a deep voice whisper.

That was the last thing that I remembered.

When I woke up, there was the sound of pounding against a wall. I wasn’t in the bar anymore. I was in a hotel room. A room that wasn’t mine because none of my things were in it. My suitcase was no where to be found and my clothes…

I glanced underneath the sheets and let out a sigh of relief. I was still dressed. There was no stickiness between my legs, or even an ache. I had to have gotten. I hadn’t had sex, I didn’t think….

But there was the sound of someone else fucking in the room next door. A woman was crying out, having an intense orgasm. “That’s it, baby! Fucking cum for me Quinn! We’re going to rule the Moon Stone Pack together. Yessss…..”

I shot out of bed and went to the room next door. I pounded and pounded on it until the door flung open. Jack stood there, naked, with my step mother wrapped around his sweaty body. She was naked too with only a sheet to cover her.

Quinn laughed. “Oh, Emily,” she said, “it’s you.”

“Jack,” I hissed, “what the fuck is this?”

Jack grinned. “I should think that was obvious. I’m fucking your Step Mother. I realized you weren’t the key to me getting what I want. Your father didn’t even leave your pack to you in his will. He knew how weak you were. He left it to Quinn. Smart man. He knew she was always going to be better than you.”

If I did, I would have scratched his face off. “You…you…” I shook my head, feeling tears coming down my face. “You can’t be serious. Out of everyone you could have picked, you had to pick Quinn?” Jack pulled her close to him and sniffed her hair. “I didn’t just pick her. She’s my mate. We found out when your father went into the hospital. He was keeping us from being together.” If I had had a wolf, my wolf would have known what to do in this situation. As it was, I couldn’t help but cry uncontrollably. I shoved Jack. Hard. “How could you do this?” I demanded. “You know how awful that—that---” I glared at Quinn. “That what?” Quinn sneered. “My father’s not even dead yet!” I hissed. Quinn smiled. “Oh, you didn’t know? He died last night. This was my way of celebrating.” "No, no, You're lying to me. I don't believe

I’ll keep you safe.” “Oh, I don’t----” He was so big and strong that there was no point in me trying to get away from him. “Don’t fight me, Omega. It will be a losing battle.” “I—okay.” I relented, and he carried me back into the hotel. “You’re hurt,” the stranger said as he placed me on his bed. “Let me get something to heal that.” He went to his suitcase and he pulled out a purple bottle. “This should take care of those scrapes.” He handed it to me and I drank it. It tasted like sunshine and laughter and my mothers’ cookies all at once although I wasn’t sure how. When I finished drinking, I watched in shock as the cuts and scrapes I had gotten from jumping from the window healed. “Little Omega,” the tall man said, “why w

I took a bite of a French fry, but all I could focus on was the strangers muscled arm over my legs. He started stroking my legs lightly with his fingers. “You’re beautiful. Really fucking beautiful. And I want to show you the kind of fucking that a woman as beautiful as you deserves.” I blushed, and I moved the food back over on the tray that it had been brought in on. “Would you like that?” he asked. I nodded. “I would like that. I would like that very much.” I took my dress off, and tossed it to the ground. I was surprised by how brazen this man made me.
