Rohan's POV

"The best way to keep the rogues out is by tightening border security, we will deal with the ones we've already caught." I was ready to call it a wrap and all the other alphas nodded in agreement, "it has been a pleasure hosting you all."

It was dismissed and everyone was going back to their respective packs and I was exhausted. But seeing Alex come towards me, I knew my work was nowhere near done.

"Alpha Rohan." He took a quick bow and I raised him up with a hand gesture, "there is something important I wish to tell you."

"You didn't even let me catch my breath, I just finished a meeting with the other pack alphas and You're here telling me you got something to talk about." I mimicked his voice as he had a deadpan expression pasted on his face, I let out a huge sigh, "let it out, I'm listening."

"There have been complaints of your subjects, too many people have complained of their kids going missing."

The latest development was able to freeze my brain and I sat up to listen more, why was I just hearing this now?

"When did you get this news?" I was void of emotions.

"Today, it seems some of our men didn't allow the news to get to us on time." I knew what Alex meant by that. I rubbed my face in pure annoyance and hissed.

"It must be the rogues, send a team to start looking for the children immediately. I want updates frequently, each child must be found. Understood?"

Alex nodded and went to do his job. My tension never eased, ever since Valerie left, things had not been the same, it was one problem after the other and I was forced to take the position of Alpha sooner than I anticipated.

I was forced to carry responsibility after she left. I eventually found my mate and she has been a blessing every step of the way. But we have a problem, we haven't been able to have a child yet. We've been trying and it's been a tiring journey.

Alex told me about children missing, I just could not let it happen because I was hoping for a child myself.

'Rohan….I'm pregnant.'

I could still hear Val's voice in my head, telling me that she was pregnant. My fingers squeezed into a fist and I decided to clear my head.

As I rested on my bed, I couldn't help but think about her. I wondered if she was alright. I still had so much to tell her and one of them was an apology.

My train of thought was interrupted when my wife came into the room, I jerked to look at her defeated demeanor.

"What happened Diana? Are we pregnant?" She sadly passed me the report and began to sob.

"I don't know what's wrong Rohan, did we offend the moon goddess that she doesn't want to give us a child? Just look at it!" She picked herself apart as I checked the report, another miscarriage.

My heart sank into a bottomless pit and I had no idea what to do or say to console my wife. Even I needed to be consoled. I folded the report and pulled her into an embrace, she broke down the moment her arms wrapped around my body.

Diana cried for hours and eventually fell asleep, I left her to rest in the room and went to the balcony. My mind was moving faster than my feet were and I did my best to fight back my tears. Mom and Dad said I would eventually have a child of my own but I needed to be patient. I've been waiting for almost a decade now, how long will I wait?

"Rohan!"

I stopped dead in my tracks, I turned and Valerie was there standing in front of me. She was still 18 and she had tears in her eyes. I wanted to touch her so bad but she disappeared in the blink of an eye.

I shook my head violently before rubbing the sand off my eyes, wiping tears in the process. I thought of her, even till today. I stayed at the balcony for hours, thinking about what it would have been if she stayed.

No, if I had accepted responsibility. I guess that would be only imagination because she was gone, with the wind.

"Alpha."

My train of thoughts was interrupted by Alex's voice. He placed a hand on my shoulder and brought me out of the balcony.

"What is the update?" I wiped more tears away from my eyes.

"A woman wishes to see you, her kids have gone missing and she said You're the only one that can help her."

My heart twisted, I didn't want to see anyone, "can you not handle her?"

"She insists on seeing you." He added but I didn't want to go, "she is in an emotional wreck, it will not be fair to ignore her pain."

"And what about my pain?! I'm forced to care about everyone but what about Me?! Who's caring about me?!" My beta was taken aback by my outburst, and suddenly I realized what I had done, "I do not want to see anyone." From loud and raging to barely audible, I dragged my feet to my room but Alex wouldn't let me leave.

"But Alpha, she—"

"Stop! You cannot enter without an order!"

"Let me go! I need to see Rohan! I don't need any order!"

The ruckus outside was getting louder and her voice sounded so familiar, it sounded so much like her. We went to check the ruckus and the woman had gotten into the pack house. She was tired and her clothes were torn, head first to the floor, she was trying to catch her breath.

She must've fallen. I rushed to pick her up and I was met with eyes I knew too well.

"Valerie?!" It was really her! Her face was stained with blood and tears. I wanted to kill whoever did this to her.

"Rohan, you have to help me! The…the…the…" Her voice was shaking as she was about to burst into tears. She was shaking.

"What happened?!" I screamed at her, I wanted to know. I needed to know.

"Someone kidnapped your sons!!" And she fainted in my arms.
