Chapter 4
"I don't care what mom says! We deserve to know about dad, he could still be alive! Don't you think he misses us?"
"But she probably has a good reason for keeping us away from him, maybe he's a bad person?"
"It still doesn't matter, we deserve to know. Andreius is right. We have 4o find him some way."
I could hear them from the other side of the door, it was 6am in the morning and they were never up this early. I was and their discussion pierced my heart.
I never wanted them to be away from Rohan but if I didn't leave, they wouldn't even have been born. I do admit I overreacted last evening but what could I have done? I'm only doing my best.
I moved away from the door, it was not proper to eavesdrop, I dragged my feet to the kitchen, I was soulless, just like the day Rohan rejected me and told me to terminate my pregnancy. Everything was blank, nothing had color anymore.
Dawn greeted us and now the sun was shining brightly, the boys were already dressed for school and I had served them breakfast. The energy of last night returned and they were not speaking. I didn't say anything either, I ate breakfast until our doorbell rang.
Markus was about to get it but a hand movement stopped him and I went to open the door. My eyes dulled when I saw it was my landlord.
"Good morning Mr Noore. I—"
"The rent is overdue Valerie, this was not what we agreed when you begged me to stay here." He folded his hands after handing me the new bill. My lips twitched at the figures.
"I will balance up, I promise, just give me a bit more time." I begged him and he gruffed, his eyes lingering on me for a while.
"Only a few more days, or you'll have to find somewhere else to live."
That was the end of our conversation and that was the beginning of another problem added to my problem basket. The basket was overflowing.
"Is there a problem mom?" Andreius had finally spoken today and my eyes were teary, I looked at him with so much love.
"No love, no problem at all." I managed a big smile, "let's get going or we will be late for school." I hurried them out of the house and I knew it was going to be a good day.
I was determined to make it up to them for last night.
I was on my best behavior at work, I made sure no customer complained even though they were wrong at times. I was hoping to get off early then do a late shift to cover up and make some extra money.
"Hello, what can I help you with?" I decided to attend to a customer and realized she was the one that poured water on me yesterday. She gave me a hard look and placed her order.
"Don't mess it up this time." She turned away from me and I rushed to get it.
"Look at you, you seem very happy today, did the boss give you a raise?" A coworker snickered at me after passing a lewd joke but I ignored her. She was the mean brat no one liked but followed anyway.
I grabbed the order after putting it together and headed to my hot tempered customer. She was impressed.
"I hope you enjoy your meal." I bowed respectfully and she passed me a $50 tip, I didn't believe it and then she chased me away. Today was officially the best day.
I noticed that time had far gone and soon the boys would close. I had to talk to my boss about pushing shifts.
My boss agreed and by noon, I was out of the restaurant. I ran to my boy's school, and I was the happiest I'd been in a while.
'Just get rid of it.'
I began to slow down when I heard Rohan's voice but I shook it out of my head and continued to the school, faster than before. I made it before the bell rang for closing and waited for them to come out.
Andreius was the first to spot me and ran like a cheetah chasing a prey, "mom!" He jumped on me and blessed me with kisses and his brothers followed suit. I was so happy to have them, I wouldn't trade them for anything.
"You came to pick us!" Markus kissed my hand and I rubbed his head.
"We are going out." We were, I was taking them out for ice cream, if my boys were happy, so was I. Our day out was exciting and also refreshing and soon the bad energy was gone with the wind.
I dropped them at home and told them to behave, preheated dinner and told them I would be back late. They promised to behave and I ran to my late shift. I worked for hours to make sure I raked up the extra money and it was going to be like that for a few days.
I had to balance the rent as soon as possible.
But work was tiring and it was time to go home. It was very late and the streets were lit and still bustling. The boys should be asleep by now and I wanted to stay in their room tonight.
I reached my door and when it swung open, the whole house was utterly destroyed. My bag fell from my hand in surprise as I covered my mouth, letting out a gasp.
"Dun, Mark, Andre?!!!" I called for my boys and ran inside, it looked like a struggle. There were marks running across almost every surface, they looked like claws, "boys! Stop playing pranks!" I prayed it was a prank.
I rushed to their room but the door was locked. I banged on it before I eventually broke it, calling out to my sons. The door finally opened and the room was a mess, the window left open.
"Andreius! Duncan! Markus!!" Tears had streamed down my face as the cold wind kissed my feet. I noticed I stepped on something cold and when I looked down, I almost fainted.
It was blood.
Rohan's POV"The best way to keep the rogues out is by tightening border security, we will deal with the ones we've already caught." I was ready to call it a wrap and all the other alphas nodded in agreement, "it has been a pleasure hosting you all."It was dismissed and everyone was going back to their respective packs and I was exhausted. But seeing Alex come towards me, I knew my work was nowhere near done."Alpha Rohan." He took a quick bow and I raised him up with a hand gesture, "there is something important I wish to tell you.""You didn't even let me catch my breath, I just finished a meeting with the other pack alphas and You're here telling me you got something to talk about." I mimicked his voice as he had a deadpan expression pasted on his face, I let out a huge sigh, "let it out, I'm listening.""There have been complaints of your subjects, too many people have complained of their kids going missing."The latest development was able to freeze my brain and I sat up to list
Valerie's POVI slowly opened my eyes, groggily taking in my surroundings. I was in a room I didn't recognize, with walls adorned with strange symbols and a large window that let in a flood of sunlight. My head pounded as I tried to remember how I got there. And then, like a tidal wave, memories came crashing back.My children, my precious babies, kidnapped. The pain and fear I felt was suffocating. I tried to sit up, but a wave of dizziness washed over me, forcing me back onto the bed.As I lay there, fragments of my past began to resurface. Rohan, the man I once loved with all my heart. The man who told me to get rid of our unborn child, like it was nothing more than a disposable thing. The man who now held the power to help me find my stolen children.I felt a bitter taste in my mouth as I thought of him. How could I have ever loved someone so cruel? And yet, as I looked around the room, I knew I had no choice but to beg for his help. The door creaked open, and Rohan stood before m
As the beautiful woman with piercing green eyes walked into the room, her gaze swept across the space, locking onto Rohan with an affectionate smile. She hurried towards him, her movements graceful and confident. The warmth of their embrace was palpable, and I felt a pang of... something. Jealousy? Sadness? I couldn't quite put my finger on it.When she turned to face me, her eyes sparkled with curiosity. "Who's this?" she asked, her voice polite but probing.Rohan's expression softened as he looked at me, a hint of nostalgia in his eyes. "This is Valerie. An old friend. Her children have been kidnapped, and I'm helping her find them."His mate's expression turned sympathetic, her eyes never leaving mine. "I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope you find them soon." Her words were genuine, but I sensed a hint of wariness beneath the surface. As she turned to leave, I felt a pang of annoyance. Why was I feeling this way? I had no right to be jealous. Rohan had moved on, and I had too... or s
I sat at my desk, lost in thought, when I sensed a presence behind me. I knew it was Alex, my beta, without even looking up. He had a way of carrying himself that commanded attention."Alex," I said, my voice low and even.He didn't respond, but I could sense his eyes on me, awaiting an explanation. I sighed, knowing I couldn't avoid this conversation forever."You're not going to let this go, are you?" I asked, my eyes still fixed on the papers in front of me.Alex nodded, his expression unreadable. But I knew him well enough to sense the surprise and curiosity behind his eyes."I'm the father of her children," I said, my voice barely above a whisper.Alex's eyes widened, but he didn't pry. He simply nodded, his expression still surprised, but trying to cover it up."Does she know?" he asked, his voice low and even.I knew he was talking about Diana, my mate. I shook my head. "No, and she must never know."Alex nodded again, his eyes never leaving mine. "I'll keep your secret, Rohan.
Valerie's POV I trudged through the woods, my eyes scanning the ground for any sign of the triplets. I couldn't let myself get distracted, not even by Rohan's piercing gaze. I'd been trying to avoid him all day, but it seemed like the universe had other plans. As I walked, my foot caught on a hidden root and I felt myself falling. But before I could hit the ground, Rohan's arms were around me, pulling me close. "Got you," he whispered, his voice low and husky.I tried to push him away, but my body seemed to have other plans. I felt a spark of electricity run through me, and my heart began to race. I looked up at Rohan, his eyes locked on mine, and I knew I was in trouble.I tried to pull away, but Rohan's grip was firm. "I've got you," he repeated, his voice soft.Alex's voice broke the spell, his eyes crinkling at the corners as he smiled at us. "Glad to see you two are getting along," he said, before turning back to the search.I felt my face heat up with embarrassment as Rohan fin
Valerie's POVAs my eyes adjusted to the darkness, I saw the figure move closer. My heart racing, I prepared for the worst. But as the figure stepped into the faint light, I realized it wasn't a dark shadowy figure at all. It was Rohan.I breathed a sigh of relief, my shoulders sagging as the tension left my body. "Rohan," I whispered, my voice shaking slightly. "What are you doing here?"Rohan's eyes locked onto mine, his expression softening. "I was looking for you," he said, his voice low. "I saw you run in here and I followed."I nodded, still trying to calm my racing heart. "I thought...I thought it was someone else," I admitted, feeling a little silly.Rohan's eyes crinkled at the corners as he smiled. "I'm sorry I scared you," he said, taking a step closer. "I didn't mean to."I shook my head, feeling a little more at ease. "It's okay," I said. "I just...I wasn't expecting it to be you."Rohan's smile faltered, and he looked at me with a serious expression. "Valerie, can I ask
Rohan's POVI couldn't shake off the feeling of unease as I watched Valerie walk into her house. Something had shifted between us tonight, something I couldn't quite put my finger on.As I turned to leave, I sensed a presence behind me. Diana. My mate."Rohan, can I talk to you?" she asked, her voice tight with tension.I nodded, feeling a sense of dread building in my stomach."What's going on with you and Valerie?" Diana demanded, her eyes flashing with anger. "I've noticed the way you look at her, the way you're always finding excuses to be around her." She said her Voice Cold but Angry. I sighed, trying to calm her down. "Diana, nothing's going on. I'm just trying to help her."But Diana wasn't having it. "Don't lie to me, Rohan," she spat. "I know what I've seen. You're distant, cold. You don't spend time with me like you used to." She said. I tried to reason with her, but she was beyond reason. Her fury was palpable, and I knew I had to tread carefully If not I was going to La
Rohan's POVDiana snuggled closer to me, her lips brushing against my ear. "I'm sorry, Rohan," she whispered. "I was wrong to doubt you."I turned to her, my eyes searching hers. "It's okay, Diana. I know you're worried."She kissed me softly, her hands roaming over my chest. I let her, but my mind was elsewhere. I couldn't shake the feeling of unease that had settled over me.Diana's kisses grew more insistent, her touch more intimate. But I couldn't respond, not when my heart was still reeling from thoughts of Valerie."Diana, slow down," I said, trying to gentle her.But she just laughed, her eyes gleaming with desire. "No, Rohan. I want you. I need you."I knew I should give in, should let her have what she wanted. But I couldn't, not when my heart wasn't in it."Diana, please," I said, trying to push her away. But she just held on tighter, her lips crushing mine. I lay there, frozen, as she touched me, kissed me, loved me. But my heart wasn't there. It was elsewhere, with a werew
