Nathaniel’s POV

Phoebe pulled her arm away quickly.

“I don’t know this Alec guy you’re talking about," she said, her voice steady.

I stared at her, unable to look away. There was something about her—her sharp eyes, the stubborn tilt of her chin, the way her voice stayed calm even though I could tell she was nervous. My wolf stirred inside me, growling softly in approval.

There was an undeniable pull between us.

I gulped and  asked, my voice low. “You felt it too, didn't you? We are mates.

Phoebe’s lips pressed into a thin line. “I know what I am,” she said, meeting my eyes.

She looked away from me, rubbing her hand unconsciously.  I wanted to hold her hand and tell her to relax.

“It’s impossible for someone like me to be your Luna. I’m an outcast. I’m ready for your rejection.”

She said suddenly.

I didn’t see that coming. I did so much to get her to come to me, that's not what I wanted to hear. When I thought about all this because of Duncan, I started to get angry. But I'm one of the culprits.

I tried to calm myself down, but her scent filled my nose. All I want to do now is hold her in my arms. My wolf Kean was more excited than I was.

He, growls louder, urging me to mark her, to claim her,

“You’d better mark her soon. I can’t wait.”but I held back. “This was not the place nor was it that time for that.”

“Be patient,” I told my wolf and myself.

I didn’t realize how close I was to her until the scent of her hair hit me. It was soft, a mix of lavender and something sweet. My wolf practically purred in delight. I didn’t answer her directly. Instead, I said, “Despite what you think, this pack is more tolerant than you know. Why don’t you train with the others?”

Before she could reply, my sister, Elizabeth, walked in. She stopped in her tracks, her eyes narrowing as they landed on Phoebe.

Phoebe took the opportunity to step back.

“I have something to do,” she muttered before leaving.

Kean howled in disappointment as I watched her walk away.

“Who is that? Wo-oh, you brought a girl here. News. Am I interrupting something?” Elizabeth raised her eyebrows.

I didn’t answer her question. “What do you want today?” I asked, my eyes still fixed on the door Phoebe had just walked through.

Elizabeth followed my gaze and raised an eyebrow. “Let’s go to your study,” she said.

Once we were inside, she started talking about a popular author called Cela she was obsessed with. She pointed to the full set of the author’s books on my shelf.

“Cela is going to have a fan meeting soon,” she said excitedly. “I need to bring an out-of-print book for the meet and greet. Can I borrow one from your collection?”

I shook my head. “I can’t give you the book. But if you want an autograph, I can get one for you.”

“Oh c'mon, Elizabeth pouted, crossing her arms but didn’t argue. After she left, I walked over to the bookshelf and took out the book she wanted. Inside, there was an old photo tucked between the pages.

The photo was burnt around the edges, but it was still clear enough to see the face of the girl in it—Phoebe. I had saved the photo from about two years ago where I led a search of Duncan's pack  immediately after the retreat. Someone had tried to destroy it, but I managed to get it repaired. There were still a few flaws, but it didn’t matter, she would be mine soon.

A knock came at the door. One of my men stood there, looking uneasy.

“Nathan,” he called, “Phoebe’s cousin is bullying her again. He’s with a group of guys this time. Do you want me to send someone to help?”

Kean my wolf growled angrily. “See? You really need to do something about that guy” I knew Phoebe could handle this, But she never fought back. The thought of her standing there, taking the hits without defending herself, made my blood boil.

I slammed the book shut and stood. “I’ll handle it myself,” I said, storming past him.

When I arrived at the place, Phoebe’s cousin and his sidekicks were already gone. Phoebe was sitting on the ground, pretending to clean her wounds. I could see what she was doing—she was slowing her healing so no one would notice.

Even with her efforts, her arms were covered in bruises, and there was a cut on her cheek.

I looked at her from a distance before running through the woods, locking onto the scent of those bastards. Soon, I found them. They were laughing, bragging about what they had just done, their arrogance making my wolf rage.

The moment they saw me, their smug expressions vanished.

“You think you’re tough, ganging up on someone who doesn’t fight back?” I growled, stepping closer. “Cowards.”

“Alpha, we—” one of them began, but I raised my hand to silence him.

“You don’t get to explain,” I said coldly. “You all stood by and let this happen.” My gaze locked on Phoebe’s cousin. “But you, you instigated this.”

Before anyone could react, I grabbed his arm and twisted it sharply. The crack of bones breaking was satisfying. He screamed, clutching his broken arm.

“This is your only warning,” I said. “And if anyone asks, you fell down the stairs. That’s all”

They all nodded frantically, their fear evident as they trembled. Without another word, I turned and walked away, my wolf Kean still snarling in my head.

Phoebe's POV When I got back home, Uncle was sitting by the counter, going over his old notebook. It was filled with his notes about stock and finances for the cafeteria. He looked up when I entered, his eyes going to the red stain on my arm that'd appeared there from Nathaniel's strong grip earlier.“What happened, Phoebe?” he asked, concern lacing his tone.I tried to sound casual. “I got hurt while training. It’s no big deal. It’ll heal soon.”Uncle didn’t look convinced. He got up and walked closer, his brow furrowed deeply. “You shouldn’t push yourself too hard. Training isn’t worth getting injured like this.”“I’m fine,” I said quickly, trying to brush it off. “Really.”He stared at me for a long moment, then sighed. “You’ve always been stubborn,” he muttered.I hesitated before speaking again. “Uncle, please let me pay rent. I’m staying here, eating your food, and working in your cafeteria. It’s only fair.”He shook his head firmly. “I told you before. I can’t take your rent.

Nathaniel's POV The whip cracked against my back, and I clenched my teeth to keep from making a sound. My father, Alpha of one of the strongest packs in the region, stood before me, fury radiating from him. This wasn’t the first time I’d been on the receiving end of his anger, but it didn’t make it any easier.“How dare you make such a decision without consulting me?” he barked, his voice echoing in his study. I didn't speak until he was done venting his angerWhen the punishment was done, he tossed the whip aside and crossed his arms. “Stand up and explain yourself.”I pushed myself to my feet, my back throbbing with each movement. My father’s eyes bored into mine, demanding an answer. “I did it because it was the best decision for the pack,” I began, keeping my voice steady. “Father, you’ve been planning to take control of other packs gradually. But with every new territory we gain, management becomes harder. There have already been signs that our resources are stretched too thin

Nathaniel's POVI walked into the pack house, Phoebe was sitting on the couch, staring out the window. Her hair caught the light, and she looked peaceful. I hadn’t expected her to be here or to have her wait here for me, but seeing her there made me stop for a moment."Phoebe... how're you doing?” I asked, stepping closer. "Looks like I’m okay,” she said with a shrug. Before I could respond, she cut me off, her words sharp and to the point. “What is this all about, Nathaniel?” Her tone wasn’t just questioning—it was desperate, demanding.I stopped in my tracks, raising one eyebrow in question and she rolled her eyes. I knew she meant the mating ceremony. I didn’t want to talk about it. Admitting I had planned to mate with someone else would only make things worse. So I kept my face calm and walked closer to her. “What do you mean?” I asked, She scoffed, “Don’t play dumb. The mating ceremony. You didn’t plan this, did you? Or were you just waiting for the perfect moment to humilia

Phoebe's POVI woke up feeling like my head was spinning. For a few seconds, I didn’t know where I was. The ceiling above me was unfamiliar, and the bed felt different. Panic crept in as I tried to sit up, but my body felt heavy. Where was I?I closed my eyes and tried to think. Slowly, pieces of the previous day came back to me. Nathaniel. His face. His lips on mine. His arms held me as he guided me… somewhere. Before I could figure it out, there was a knock on the door. I froze, unsure of what to say. A moment later, a maid stepped in, carrying a tray.“Good morning, Miss Phoebe,” she said politely, placing the tray on a small table beside the bed.I rubbed my eyes and pushed myself up. “Why am I here?” I asked, my voice cracking. The maid hesitated, her hands fiddling with the edge of her apron. “You were at the dinner table with the alpha's family last night, Miss,” she said carefully. “Lord Nathaniel brought you here so you could rest.”“You were….um, you had a little too much

Phoebe's POVNathaniel left with his father and two brothers early in the morning. I had watched him mount his horse, his face set in a serious expression. The treaty with the Moonfury pack was important, and the Alpha wanted all his sons to be involved in the negotiations.Nathaniel was leaving me with people who didn't even like me. I took a deep breath.“I’ll be back by evening,” Nathaniel had whispered as he came to stand next to me. .I nodded. “Good luck. I hope the peace treaty lasts.”Before he could leave, Elizabeth stepped forward, arms crossed. “What about our training today in the fields, Nathaniel? You promised to help me today.” He sighed. “Elizabeth, I’ll help you tomorrow. Today is important. We have to leave with father in a matter of minutes.”“You always say that,” she snapped. “But you never follow through. Fine, let Phoebe help me instead.”Nathaniel’s brows furrowed. “No, I—”“It’s settled,” the Alpha interrupted, his deep voice cutting through the conversatio

Nathaniel's POVI returned to the pack house after the meeting at Moonfury pack, and I hoped Elizabeth hadn't given Phoebe a hard time. The warriors guarding the house were tense, whispering among themselves. One of them approached me, his expression grim.“Nathaniel,” he said, his voice low, “there was an attack.”My heart sank. “What happened?”“Rogues,” he said. “They ambushed the group at the training grounds. Elizabeth and Phoebe are missing. The others with them seemed to have escaped together and got back here.”I didn’t wait to hear more. How could the ones I'd left to take care of Phoebe and Elizabeth come back unhurt when the people I'd charged them to protect were missing. Without a word, I shifted into my wolf form and raced toward the training grounds. My brother followed, and soon, other warriors joined us. We raced for the training grounds and for the first time, I caught myself wondering how in the world the training grounds happened to be so far away from the royal

Phoebe's POV I woke up in an unfamiliar bed. The blankets were heavy, wrapping me in warmth, but the scent around me was unmistakable—Nathaniel.Blinking, I sat up slowly. My body ached, and my head felt heavy. Why was I here? The last thing I remembered was the river, the cold water pulling me down, and Nathaniel’s arms around me.The door opened, and he walked in. His shirt was slightly wrinkled, his hair a bit messy, as if he hadn’t slept much.“You’re awake,” he said, stepping closer.I frowned. “Why am I in your room?”“You passed out,” he answered. “I brought you here.”I pushed the blanket off and swung my legs over the side of the bed. My head throbbed badly and I wanted to get back into the warm bed and sleep some more, but I heard myself saying, “I’m fine now. I should go.”His hand was on my shoulder before I could stand. “You’re not going anywhere.”I looked up at him. His expression was unreadable, but there was no mistaking the firmness in his voice.“Nathaniel, I—”“N

Phoebe's POVThe next day, breakfast was quieter than usual. The tension in the dining hall was thick, pressing against me from every side. I sat beside Nathaniel, my back straight, forcing myself to ignore the way Elizabeth’s sharp gaze lingered on me. Across from us, Alexander toyed with the silverware, his expression unreadable. The clinking of plates and soft murmurs of conversation filled the space, but I knew something was coming. It always did with them.Elizabeth, dressed in an elegant dark-blue dress, picked up her teacup and took a slow sip. “It must be quite the adjustment for you, Phoebe,” she mused, setting the cup down with a delicate clink. “Going from… wherever you came from to sitting here among us.”I didn’t reply.Alexander smirked. “It makes you wonder what kind of life she led before this,” he added. “There’s no record of her, is there?”Elizabeth sighed, shaking her head. “Probably spent her days learning how to serve instead of how to lead.” Her lips curled into

Nathaniel’s POVI sat in my office, staring at the stack of reports spread across my desk. The papers detailed everything from patrol schedules to supply inventories. I had been going over them for the last hour, but my focus kept slipping. The recent invasion had left some damage, but we were recovering. Duncan’s forces had been dealt with, and the borders were secure again. That wasn’t what was weighing on my mind.Alexander was.Even after everything, he still hadn’t given up his claim to the Alpha position. He had no right to it, not while my father was still alive and certainly not while I was the one handling pack affairs. But Alexander didn’t see it that way.I sighed and leaned back in my chair, rubbing my temples. The constant power struggle was draining, and I didn’t have time for it.Before I could push the thought aside, my phone vibrated on the desk. I glanced at the screen. A message from my father. We need to meet in my office. Now.I stared at the words for a second be

Phoebe’s POVI sat on the edge of my bed, gripping my phone tightly. I had been staring at the screen for a while, debating what to do. My uncle was still in the hospital, recovering, and even though Nathaniel had told me not to worry, I couldn’t help it. He had handled everything, from the medical bills, getting the best doctors and the best care—but I needed to see for myself that my uncle was okay.I took a deep breath and scrolled through my contacts until I found the name I was looking for.Mark.I hesitated for a second before pressing the call button. The phone rang a few times before he finally answered.“Phoebe?” His voice sounded uncertain, as if he hadn’t expected me to call.“Hey,” I said, trying to keep my voice steady. “I want to visit Uncle. Are you free?”There was a pause. “You want to go today?”“Yes.”Another pause. Then, “Alright. I’ll meet you there.”I exhaled, relieved. “Thanks.”After ending the call, I got up, grabbed my coat, and stepped out of my room. Natha

Phoebe’s POVThe sky was still dark when we returned to the packhouse. The cool air clung to my skin as I stepped inside, my body heavy with exhaustion. The weight of the night still pressed on me, but a strange sense of peace followed.Nathaniel walked beside me, his presence steady. He hadn’t let go of my hand since we left the woods, and even now, his grip was warm, grounding. When we reached the door of his chambers, I hesitated. My fingers curled slightly against his. “Nathaniel…”He turned to me, eyes searching. “What is it?”I glanced down, suddenly uncertain. “Maybe I should go to my own room.”Nathaniel didn’t let me pull away. Instead, he cupped my face, his thumb brushing over my cheek. “Stay,” he murmured. It wasn’t a demand. It wasn’t even a request. It was a quiet promise—one I didn’t have the strength to deny.I nodded.Nathaniel led me inside, closing the door behind us. The room was dimly lit, the air warm and familiar. I had been here before, but never like this. Nev

  • Mated To The Enemy Alpha   Chapter 33

Phoebe’s POVSleep wouldn’t come. No matter how many times I turned over or adjusted my pillow, my mind refused to quiet. Every time I closed my eyes, the memories came rushing back—Alexander’s betrayal, the attack. I had caught myself trying to make excuses for Alexander, for why he could want the downfall of his own pack simply because his younger brother was the alpha, but the more I tried to make those excuses, the more ridiculous it became to even me. “Envy is sure to tear a people apart,” I muttered under my breath. Mia scoffed inside me. “Alex has always never loved his brother as you like to think. He never did, not since they were kids.” I sighed. It was easy to believe. Nathaniel looked more handsome, had his way with people and generally charmed people. He was also smart, their father would ask his opinion on certain pack issues but Alexander never gave equally genius opinions on things and so didn't get the attention that Nathaniel got from their father and other pack

Nathaniel’s POVThe battlefield was littered with bodies. Some groaned in pain, others lay still. Blood soaked the ground, the scent thick in the air. My warriors had done their job, forcing the rival pack back. But the fight wasn’t over.I saw Alexander slipping away.He moved quickly, staying near the shadows of the trees, trying to disappear while everyone else was still caught in the chaos. He thought I wouldn’t notice. He was wrong.I started after him, my strides long and determined. My blood boiled at the thought of what he had done. He had betrayed us, let our enemies into our home, watched as our warriors bled and died. And now, he wanted to run.Not a chance.I caught up to him just as he reached the edge of the forest. He stopped when he heard me, but he didn’t turn around.“Going somewhere?” I asked, my voice cold.Alexander let out a slow breath before facing me. His expression was calm, too calm for someone who had just lost. “It’s over, Nathaniel.”“You’re right. And yo

Phoebe’s POVScreams tore through the night. The clash of metal, the growls of wolves, the thud of bodies hitting the ground—it was chaos. My breath came fast, my muscles tensed as I stood amidst the battle. Warriors fought around me, defending the pack, but something about this attack felt wrong. This wasn’t just a random ambush. Then I saw him.Alexander.He stood away from the battle, near the treeline, watching. He wasn’t fighting. He wasn’t even moving. His posture was too relaxed for someone whose pack was under attack. His arms were crossed, and while warriors around him struggled, he remained untouched. Not a single enemy had gone for him. That was no coincidence.Realization struck me. This wasn’t just an attack. It was a betrayal.A rogue lunged at me before I could process it further. His blade aimed straight for my throat. I ducked, twisting my body, barely avoiding the slash. I grabbed a fallen dagger from the ground and drove it into his ribs before he could react. His b

Phoebe's POVI knew I couldn’t wait. Waiting would be a disaster. I had to inform Nathaniel of what I'd found. But then, when I snuck back into the pack house and back into our took successfully, I knew it would be unwise to try to wake him up and tell him what I'd just found out. But at the same time, I knew he was always up very early and would soon be out in the training grounds or in his office to finish whatever work he might have not finished the previous day.My heart thumped wildly in my chest as I laid next to him, hoping that the day would come fast so I could tell him what I'd learned. My wolf growled at the back of my mind. “Going out was perhaps the best decision you've made in a while.”I nodded. Without argument, it was the smartest thing I'd done on impulse, for a while now. As soon as the sun rose, I found Nathaniel in his office, sitting behind his desk. He looked up when I entered, his expression softening for a brief moment before he saw the look on my face. Hi

  • Mated To The Enemy Alpha   Chapter 29

Phoebe's POVI had never paid much attention to Alexander before. He had always been there—watching, waiting, brooding in the background—but I had kept my focus on my own struggles. Now, I couldn’t ignore him. There was something about the way he carried himself lately, the way his frustration seemed to grow with each passing day.Nathaniel dismissed him as a sore loser, still bitter about the challenges, but I wasn’t so sure it was just that. There was something else, something darker. So, I started watching.I didn’t make it obvious. I wasn’t foolish enough to let him or anyone else know what I was doing. I simply paid attention—where he went, who he spoke to, how his expression changed when he thought no one was looking. At meals, I noticed how he barely ate, his fingers tapping against the table like he was thinking too much. When he trained, his movements were sharp, aggressive, as if he was holding back anger. At night, when most of the pack had gone to sleep, I listened. The pa
