Chapter 65

Sal’s POV

I ran the wet cloth over his skin, taking my precious time to ensure that the surface was clean. Seeing him in this sick bed reminded me of how taking care of my paralyzed father used to be before he succumbed to the weakness of his body.

After I finished cleaning him up, I kissed him on the forehead, packed up my things, and left.

“I'll be back soon,” I whispered to him at the doorway, hoping that even if the chances were slim, he could hear me.

Later, my mind moved over the things I had managed to gather up since Rayne and I started looking for clues as to who released the rogue that night. I'd been to the dungeons numerous times, but found nothing significant except for the ugly stain on the concrete floor where Bradford had bled.

To further prove that the rogue had been indeed released and simply didn't break out on his own, the cell he had been in had no signs of struggle. No claw marks or broken floors. It was like one moment he was inside, and the next he wasn't.
