"Madam, the hot water is ready," Anna came in quietly, bending over to report. I slouched on the sofa covered with fine brocade and paid no attention to her. Now I'm not the poor woman shivering in bed in my stupid quilt. After King Nuri showed interest in me, I moved out of the shabby little room.

I own the whole palace now! Before that, only two women in the harem had that right, the king's grandmother Carol and Queen Sibyl. Although my palace is not as big as the Queen's, it is no less luxurious. When I opened my eyes, I saw a vaulted carved ceiling, and the walls on all sides were decorated with ornate fabrics and marble. The furniture in the room was made of expensive rosewood, carved with intricate patterns, and decorated with gold foil.

The room was filled with the mysterious and elegant smell of sandalwood. Rare treasures from all over the mainland are gathered here, and are often replaced with new treasures after less than a month. Money and power, oh, and the
