Chapter Two

“L.K are you sure you’re okay, I can hear heavy breathing and the sound of running.”“Of course, I am,” I reassure dismissively. “I’m sorry but am just exercising right now. Got to work on my cardio, you know.”     “Oh of course, well to get this show going I’ll just read out the questions and then you can answer. Hmm, this one is from Kimmy and she wants to know what your plans will be when you’re done with your vacation?” Letting out a sigh, the female host asks.    “You know this is such a great question, I also want to know what’s next in store for the Masked Queen?”“When I’m done with my vacation, I’m going to be returning to my home country, South Korea, to continue my career.”“That’s-”I block her out when the exit doors suddenly burst open and flinch

Chapter Three

I ignore Miranda’s question mostly because I’m in no position to answer when these guys are so close, I’m not taking the risk of them hearing me.“But-” “Go now or I’ll call security, I have work to do so make your decision quick.” “The f**k, you’re lying to me. We saw her come through here.” The guy responds harshly and I flinch at the sound of aggression in his voice. “You curse at me one more time boy, I’m going to pummel you to the ground!” The old man points and threateningly takes a step forward. “I’ll like to see you try.” “Hey!” A girl suddenly intervenes. “There isn’t gonna be any fighting here. I’m leaving okay, am not getting myself in trouble because of you Kevin.” I hear retreating footsteps and let out a breath of relief. “Come on man let&rsquo

Chapter Four

Panicking, I look at both ends of the narrow passage and rush down the left end. I turn down a corner and stop abruptly, staring at the red brick wall in disbelief. Whirling on my feet, I let out a strangled sound when I see the same dead-end on the opposite side. I take a peek past the wall I’m leaning on to see the coast is clear, but judging by the sound of their approaching steps it won’t be long before I get caught. The pounding of my heart drummed in my ears as I contemplated what course of action to make next.I turn in a full circle, trying to think of something when a slightly ajar door on the opposite wall caught my eye. Without thinking I rush inside and left the door an inch open so I can tell when they were close.Hearing them draw closer I swallow heavily, silently trying to keep my breathing steady and low. “Damn it all, I could have sworn I saw her come this way.” &

One month later…   “Lana… Lana get your ass up it’s time for school!” I groan and bury my head underneath my covers as I roll onto my stomach in bed. I was trying to get back to sleep when I heard the sound of my bedroom door bang open and felt my brother jump on my body, landing heavily on my back.Feeling my breath get knocked out of me, I struggle but push off his fat body and sit up with a yell. “Jay!”Jayden Kang, my idiot of a twin shrugs and flashes me a teasing grin, his emerald green eyes glinting mischievously as he says in a sing-song voice.    “Dad told me to wake you however possible sis.”Pressing a sloppy kiss to my cheek, he sits up and rolls off my bed. “Now get up, we have school to get to.”    I watch him walk away without waiting for a response and glare at his back while he scratches his curly bed hair t

Chapter Six

Damn, I need to restudy the streets of Seoul. I can barely recall my left from my right.     When we got to the bus stop, an old woman and two salarymen dressed in slightly bigger suits were the only people waiting for the bus.I take a seat beside the old woman while Jayden chooses to stand with his arms crossed over his chest.“Is he that bad, the principal I mean?”    He turns to me with a grimace. “He’s terrible.”    “Great,” I mutter sarcastically and change the subject. “What about K-STAR Highschool, what’s it like?” While I take great interest in modelling, I decided to join my brother in his newly formed art high school as a dancer. When I returned I was a little surprised to learn he found a deep passion for music, he always preferred to spend his time in dad’s restaurant we thought he’d like to take over t

Chapter Seven

Stepping in through bright yellow gates, I gape at how yellow everything is. We walk into the school building through glass double doors and causally I look around.       Jay certainly wasn’t kidding about the eccentricity of the school. I thought as someone bumped into me. Stumbling forward I turn with a frown.     “Hey!” I call out after him but he just keeps running without muttering an apology or even giving any acknowledgement.       Grumbling, I didn’t expect the double doors to suddenly bust open and for students to flood inside. They all ran, not caring as they jostled me about until I was pushed back enough for all of them to rush upstairs freely.      “What the hell is wrong with them!” I yell in disbelief, rubbing my arching arms while staring at their retreating backs with a perplexed frown.    &l

Chapter Eight

She looks so hopeful while she asks this, and I feel bad immediately because there’s no way I’m doing this.       The competition is most likely to guarantee attention from people and I want none of that, no amount of hopeful smiles are going to persuade me.   “Look, Miss Kim-”    “First place takes home a lot of money.”   Okay, that part interests me.     I hesitate, and upon seeing this she leans in to whisper. “I’m not obligated to tell you the amount but from what I heard it’s a hell of a lot for students.”  I weigh my options in my head and decide to just f**k it. Money is a completely different issue. “Where did you say I have to sign up again?”       A dazzling smile lit up her face and she picks up a form on her desk, I frowned in confusion when she insisted on filling it out for me while I tell her my details.

Chapter Nine

Grumbling beneath my breath, I move further into the classroom and the door bangs close behind me. Those sliders sure aren’t silent.     Their attention was on me the minute they heard the door close, but I ignore my nerves as my eyes focus on the only empty seat to the left, by the window.      Walking over, I settle my bag on the table and sit down. “Hi, I’m Sang Bora.” The girl in front of me introduces herself, and I raise my head with a smile.     I admire her dyed blonde hair up in a French braid ponytail and caramel skin. “Hi.”        “One question,” She holds up a finger. “Are you lost?”   “I… highly doubt that.” I frown in confusion. “I’m new, the names Lana Kang.”   “Any relation to Jayden Kang?” I look to the

Chapter Ten

Once we arrived at my father’s restaurant I smile at the sight of the restaurant’s name ‘KANG’S’, written in big golden letters in the middle of the building.    Slipping into the restaurant after my brother who gentlemanly opens the door for me, I take in a deep breath.   For some reason, I’m always floored by how many renovations my father has put into this place and how much it has grown.   The restaurant is filled with loud chatter due to the number of people crowding the place and the waiters running around to attend to customers.       I can still clearly remember what the place used to look like before I left, bleak walls with peeling wallpaper, barely functional ceiling lights, and an odd stale smell permeating the air.     But it’s thanks to the help of a friend of my dad’s that I got my first job as a child m
