A liability

THREE MONTHS LATER

Alice and Landon did their best to avoid each other despite working in the same building,sleeping on the same bed and living in the same house.

She tried her best to make the marriage work as much as possible but he clearly didn't want it as much as she wanted.

She tried cooking dinner.

She helped him clear his busy schedule by doing all the work so they could spend time together but something would come up and he would leave again.

It became so bad that even she got tired and also decided not to make an effort and just ignore him the same way he was ignoring her.

‘So what's up with you and my brother?'.Catherine asked as she walked into Alice's office with a box of chocolate cookies.

‘Hey Cathy I didn't know you were coming over'.Alice smiled and Catherine sat down at he other side of the table.

‘Yeah I missed you that's why I'm here,it's been so long since we had Cathy and Alice time you know?? Cathice?? Alithy??'.

’Ohh that is a terrible ship name but I'm done with work anyway so let's go'.Alice chuckled and shut her laptop.

A girls day out with Catherine was just what she needed to take her mind off her not-so-close husband.

‘Honestly,it's been hard Catherine and I have basically done everything within my power to be close to your brother but he doesn't return the energy'.Alice stated her predicament as the waiter placed her order of Pickle salad and garlic bread on the table.

‘I knew it was a mistake,I knew you were going into a mistake but clearly I wasn't bothered enough to stop you I...I...I thought he would later come to realise that family is better than any business but I guess it's too late now'.Catherine sighed deeply in reply.

She clearly understood what Alice was going through for she was also once in a marriage where her husband never really did care about her.

‘Well it's all good anyway,in nine months we'll both go our separate ways and that's all there is to it'.Alice chuckled nervously but her pain was very easy to spot.

‘You still love him don't you?'.Catherine asked and she bursted into tears.

‘More than you know Cathy,more than you know'.

‘You should be ashamed of yourself Landon Mikaelson!!'.

‘Ohh here we go again'.Landon rolled his eyes as he dismissed his meeting and Candy walked right in.

‘Where is that wife of yours Landon,I heard she looks like a hag'.She said with every skunk of despise in her voice.

‘Candace I had a very good reason for ignoring your calls and texts and now you're in my office,I have told you time and time over that WE are never happening again'.He replied and she scoffed.

‘Just because you're married?? I don't even care Landon but...'.Her voice trailed off the moment she spotted Alice and Catherine walking past the office and before Landon could get a hold of the situation she was already out to get trouble.

‘Hey!! Hey you wench! I heard you married the billionaire huh?? Looks like you got lucky!'.Candy yelled at the top of her voice and Alice turned around in obvious confusion.

She was very pretty, Candy thought with envy and secretly wondered why she wasn't all over the media like Landon was and why he never attends social functions with her.

‘Are...Are you talking to me?'.Alice asked.

’Yes of course dummy I'm talking to you and in case you didn't know Landon and I were once a thing and we are still going to be so let me advise you honey—Divorce him'.She replied and walked away.

Alice was utterly dumbfounded and silently wanted the ground to swallow her as she stood transfixed to the spot.

Landon's nonchalant attitude towards the debacle only made her feel worse than she already was and she had to hold onto a chair before she plumetted to the ground.

Murmurs hovered around the whole office building as some of the female staffs wondered what kind of a husband he was while watching another woman disrespect his wife.

‘I would never even allow someone do that to my woman even if we're seprated'.One of the security guards whispered to his partner.

‘Yeah,I thought the boss was cold but this takes icy to a whole new level'.His partner whispered back in reply.

Alice couldn't take it anymore.

She couldn't bear the shame and the pain as she grabbed her bag and ran out of the building in tears leaving only Catherine to face her brother.

‘Are you happy now?? Landon are you happy??'.Catherine angrily barged into his office.

‘What did I do exactly??'.

‘It's not about what you did! it's about what you didn't do! Out of everything you have put Alice through the least you could do is give her a heads up about your side chick or at least defend her like a man would!!'.

‘First things first Candy and I aren't a thing and secondly stop putting it like I'm making Alice suffer or something,I never swear at her or dis—

‘Say one more word about not disrespecting her and I swear with my life I will ignore the fact that you're my brother and smack the hell out of your face.Lucas was right, Alice deserves so much better than a cold bastard like you'.She said and left immediately leaving him speechless.

Catherine wasn't one for getting angry easily and seeing that part of her really scared the hell out of him.

What soccerry had Alice done to make his siblings turn against him like that??.

‘You know if you have a problem with me you can just say it to my face rather than complaining to every damn family member'.Alice heard Landon say as he walked into their room only to see her packing her bags.

‘Where are you going?'.He asked.

‘To the guest room,I don't think I can sleep here any more'.She replied with dark circles under her eyes.

She was damn tired of crying for a man who clearly showed her time and time without effort that he didn't care about her.

‘And may I ask why?'.

‘Cause I don't want to'.

‘Alice is this because of what happened earlier?? I have nothing with Candy and you should know that!!'.

’Well I don't know and I don't care anyway cause my feelings don't really matter to you!! I used to force myself to believe that we were friends but now I can see clearly all thanks to Candy Parker or whatever her name is...You can have as many girlfriends as you want and I don't care,just keep to your Bookkeeping and all of that.....I am clearly a liability in your way so I'm moving out'.
