Dylan was definitely going to stay in his office till late today
He wanted to buy more time from the board but they were not going to be giving him.
And apart from that, he needed to finish some paperwork.
I can as well get comfortable since I have no one to go home to... He thought to himself sarcastically as he noticed he was the last man standing.
He took off his jacket and placed it on the black sofa he had in his big office beside his espresso machine and opposite a longer sofa
He unbuttoned his shirt leaving about three buttons open
You could see his bronze body from the space it left clearly
He removed his cufflinks and rolled his sleeves up
He sat on the sofa after he placed the documents he needed to tend to on a small table
He had spent an hour in the work he was doing he had even poured himself a cut of whiskey to relax himself
He finished with a document among others he had to tend to when he decided to leave
He never realized how lonely and quiet the company was because any time he was here after hours he was with a woman so, he never knew what it felt like to be lonely in his office
He was finishing up with something on his computer when he started hearing footsteps.
He smiled when he thought that maybe one of his lovers had come to keep him company
He kept his gaze at the door till it was opened
Okay... he expected a woman but not this one.
She walked to him looking awfully angry
"you did this right!" She yelled
"I'd love to know what you are doing in my company miss Lorraine," Dylan said, trying to be nice this time
"you got me fired!" She spat
"I'm trying to make your life better" he explained simply.
"Really! I don't have a house again thanks to you" Lorraine huffed
He expected her boss to make her come to him but not send her packing
"I'll be sincere I didn't mean for that to happen, I just need you and you need me too" he explained
"What part of I won't marry you don't you understand?" Lorraine asked irritatedly.
He walked closer to her "I really need this contract between us... If you want me to get on my knees I will. But just to inform you I'm not the kind of man to beg" Dylan looked into her eyes.
"I'm not going to marry you for money," Lorraine said firmly.
"fine, if not for money would you at least do it for your mom? It's going to be a job that'll cost you just a little lie and will pay a great deal of money" he explained.
"what do you know about my mom?" Lorraine asked.
"I know that she doesn't have enough funds to live the life she deserves" Dylan proceeded to explain.
"And that's not your problem... Stay away from me!" She turned around to leave when he stopped her.
"but you have to do this," he said again
"why me? I'm sure you have a lot of Lovers just pick one out of them"
"I don't want any of them" Dylan sighed
She shrugged her shoulders "I don't care about that, just find someone else"
His face which was cool and gentle when she scolded him turned to its normal stern look after she was done.
She went ahead and walked to the door and exited it.
As she walked towards the elevator she heard his voice. It was so clear and audible because he was the only one talking at that point.
He was on the phone, and with the look of it, he wasn't sounding so pleased.
Getting outside the company, the realization that she still didn't have a place to stay hit her and made her stomach turn.
Dylan finished up with the documents and was still flabbergasted. If he ever had any plans on continuing work that night, they weren't possible anymore.
Lorraine confronted him, what no woman has ever done to him... And he let her.
He certainly won't be marrying her, Not for business or any other thing, he thought as he gnashed his teeth walking out of the company.
***
He got inside his car and roared it to life and then zoomed off... All he needed was a cup of whiskey.
As Lorraine Walked on the streets, she started regretting lashing out at Dylan.
The worst part about her getting angry and lashing out at people is that she feels bad about it later and regrets it.
She took a few more steps and suddenly heard the sound of thunder and she knew what was coming next.
A downpour of rain.
She looked around and didn't find any bus stops or any place she could be shielded from the rain
Her mind ran in a million circles
How would she get away from the rain?
How would she get a place to sleep tonight?
Should she go beg her former boss?
These thoughts ran through her head when all of a sudden without warning the rain poured and started to drench her so badly.
"It's official... Today is the worst day of my life" she huffed as she continued walking.
Thank God her stuff was still at her apartment. Lewis allowed her to keep them there for a day.
No car was passing by and she was just a few blocks away from Dylan's company
The rain was getting heavier and she was getting Cold
She heard the sound of a car all of a sudden behind her and turned around to look at who it was
Of course, it was him
He saw her
He knew it was her but still drove away
He drove past her even though she waved at him to stop
"You're such a jerk!" She yelled
She continued walking till she gave up
She broke down and sat on the edge of the road. The rain soaked her hair and scattered it all over her face like a veil.
Something was pricking Dylan
He knew what he had done. He left a woman out in the rain
Even if it was a whore he would have helped her.
But this woman wasn't a whore but a woman who confronted him.
Something No woman has ever done. But he couldn't be so heartless regardless.
He stopped his car all of a sudden making the tires skid till they went to a stop
Even Lorraine heard the sound. He went back and stopped in front of Lorraine.
He got out of the car and went ahead and covered her with his jacket and walked her into his car
"You wanted to leave me there to die in the cold, right? after all you've done," she said with a shaky voice as he got in and shut the door.
"You say it like it's my obligation. Last I checked, you are nobody to me, this is my car and I choose to take in whoever I want in it" Damien said Sternly.
At that moment Lorraine went silent.
Dylan wanted to ask where she lives but he remembered she doesn't have a place to stay anymore.b
"Well... Why did you bother to give me a lift... I don't have a house anymore" Lorraine mumbled.
"I have lots of houses, apartments, and hotels I can take you to one," Dylan said casually.
" I guess you're are feeling guilty all of a sudden, uh?" Lorraine scoffed
Dylan stopped the car abruptly and turned to look at Lorraine
"Look, you should be honored you are in my car and that I'm trying to help you right now even after turning me down... I'm not always nice, you know?" He said firmly
And Lorraine went silent again
He drove her to one of his apartments a few streets away from his mansion
"Get me the address to your former apartment and I'll have some men bring you your things," Dylan said.
"What!" Lorraine exclaimed "Am I going to be staying here?" she asked looking around the fancy apartment
"I told you didn't I? It's not every day I'm nice and when I am I might be too nice... So, the address if you may?"
Lorraine told him the address and Dylan left the apartment.
"Oh my God! This is some badass apartment"
Lorraine said as she walked around the apartment
She moved around till she decided to rest.
She took off her clothes and wore one of Dylan's T. Shirts She saw it in the closet of one of the rooms.
She then went back to the lounge and lay on the sofa.
***
Dylan came the next morning with the men who brought Lorraine's luggage.
As he directed them to where they should drop the bags he noticed her.
She was there on the sofa in his shirt and nothing more making him notice her pale skin.
Did she sleep here through the night?
His mind alarmed him distracting him from his gaze on her body.
He went and sat at the edge of the sofa close to her.
He looked at her once more noticing how pale and beautiful she was
There's something about her
She's different
So intriguing
I'm interested in her
He thought to himself
Lorraine's eyes opened gradually and caught his starring at her
She jumped and moved away a bit
"Relax I'm not going to hurt you," He said, trying to calm her.
"you scared me," She said finally
"did you sleep here?" He asked
"yes" She nodded with a yawn
"What!" He exclaimed
"the bed is too big and besides I didn't want to rumple the sheets" Lorraine explained.
"you live here now, Lorraine" Dylan scoffed
Lorraine still couldn't believe it
She was kicked out of her apartment yesterday and now she's living in an apartment that was like a mansion.
Dylan stood up and started walking to the door.
"wait! I need to repay you for this. Even though you got me kicked out of my house,
you got me a new one and trust me I didn't like it there and besides all you ever wanted to do was help me" she paused "I need to work for you somehow" she added
"You can't do what I want you to do, Lorraine. If you want to pay me back, you'll marry me, That's all I'm asking" Dylan explained.
She heaved a sigh. She didn't have a job, she still needed to pay her Mom's bills even though she lives in a big house now.
"That's the only thing you want me to do?... Marry you?" She asked
"yes, Lorraine" Dylan replied.
"But, why me? I'm sure you must have a lot of girlfriends just pick one" Lorraine protested.
"I chose you for a reason... It's you I want" Dylan said softly.
"I'm... I'm not ready for marriage" Lorraine sighed.
"it's going to be a marriage deal
We get married and let the press know about it so it sounds real. I get to be the CEO of the company you get paid a generous amount Every month and after a year we divorce and go back to our normal lives" Dylan explained.
"you make it sound easy" Lorraine shook her head.
"because it is," Dylan said
"I've gotten myself indebted to you" She bit her lower lip.
"Look, you can think about it... just for today though. Those boards of directors are breathing on my neck. I don't have the luxury of time" Dylan explained and she nodded.
"Good," He said simply before walking out.
Lorraine walked up the stairs and into one of the rooms that looked more feminine.
She moved her bags there and settled in
Out of the five rooms in this house, this room was her style
She removed Dylan's shirt but still her skin still smelt of his cologne. She went into the bathroom and saw a shower cubicle and a bathtub.
"oh my gosh!"
She ran to the shower stand turned on the shower and played with it
She later ran to the bathtub and settled in it
She came out of the tub after a while and got dressed. As she did so, she thought of Dylan's proposal
It wouldn't be that bad to marry him, would it?
She thought to herself
I'll marry him just for the money that's all nothing more and nothing less
She made her decision finally.
But she didn't want to call Dylan already. She didn't want him to think she was desperate.
Grrrr
Her stomach growled reminding her that she hadn't eaten breakfast.
She went into the kitchen and saw the perfect kitchen.
All the pots and pans were untouched
The spoons, forks, knives everything was untouched, not even a single dent.
The worktop counter was so clean she could eat on it without a plate
There was a mini dining table at the center
She went round it and walked to the stove
It had six rings, it looked so fancy
She walked to the refrigerator beside the oven and opened it
It was stocked
But no one used to live here
It had every single thing she needed for breakfast and more
She enthusiastically made herself a breakfast so satisfying she couldn't have asked for more or better
She didn't sleep well at night
Her body was still getting used to the environment
She went up to her new room and just seeing the bed and how beautiful it was she wanted to sleep badly
She went on the bed gently and lay on it,
As she rested her head on the pillow his scent filled her nose
He must have slept here too
It was like a tranquilizer or a sleeping pill
Because just inhaling his scent relaxed her and made her fall into a gentle sleep.
