Chapter Eighty-Three

Lauren's POV

“I did no such thing,” I denied as I shifted against the armrest of the couch. “Not on purpose, at least.”

“From what I heard, just days after your wedding, you were kidnapped and taken away. That put enough stress on him, and as if that was not enough, your death was faked. After that, you came back into his life with a child that you ended up losing after getting shot.

“All that happened right after my brother was shot. He was shot because he wanted to step away from the family business, which wanted to do for you.”

“I don’t—”

“If there’s any part of the story that I got wrong, do let me know.” He smirked at me, knowing that I could not dispute it as untrue.

It left me wondering just how much he knew and who had given him that information all so soon. I knew that asking him about it would yield no results because he was already waiting for my answer and was not going to back down.

“None of it was my fault,” I defended.
