Chapter Eighty-Eight

Lauren's POV

“You killed them,” I said as soon as I saw Damien making his way up the stairs of the basement.

I knew he was not the kindest man in the world, but I didn’t think that he would go down there and kill them without a thought even though they had it coming.

“Don’t worry about it, Lauren. You’ve had a long day. I think you need to get some rest. They’ll be taken out of here and disposed of when you’re asleep,” he assured me, completely missing the point of my worry.

“No, Damien.” I shook my head. “I’m not worried about Katarina or Santino. I’m not worried about whether they’re dead or alive. I’m worried about you. What if this whole event turns you into something you’re not?”

“Something I’m not?” he chuckled. “And what’s that supposed to mean?”

I knew that he didn’t mean it as a dare for me to tell him something that he would challenge me for, but that didn’t make it any easier for me to talk to him about. What if he shut down and closed
