Reality finally hits me at that moment. I had been so relived with the fact that I was able to fake the pregnancy test that I had totally forgotten about the DNA.
“I didn't remember it, I'll go back to the hospital tomorrow.” I speak and Alexander slowly rises from the chair, and only now did I realise how insanely tall this man was. His dark suite accentuated his broad shoulders and toned chest well, his hair slightly dishevelled, rested some inches just above his dark orbs. As he took some steps closer, his height only became even more intimidating and I gulped, but I stood my ground and didn't move an inch back wards, instead I stared straight into his dark eyes. As if understanding that I was trying my best not to feel intimated, a slight smirk crawled to the corner of his perfectly shaped lip. This was the closest to a smile I had seen him done, my past life and now. His smirk was both alluring and unsettling, and it made my palms grow slightly cold in fear. I searched his eyes, trying to read his mind. Did he perhaps know that the tests were fake? Or does he have something else in mind? But the next thing I heard him say countered my every thoughts and instead made my eyes buldge in both fear and panic. “I’ll escort you personally to go see the doctor tomorrow. A husband should always be by his wife's side, no?” I tried to feign a smile but I knew how disoriented it must look and then I chuckled, but it only gave out how nervous I was. “Haha, there's really no need to follow me, I'll be fine, J-Jarred is here.” Alexander slowly straightened his back and folded his hands behind his back, an action I presume he was fond of. His smirk which had initially enveloped his lips was now nowhere to be found, as if it had never been there and I will admit, his ability to quickly change his expression frightens me. “I am telling you, not seeking for permission-” “No!” I subconsciously yelled abruptly cutting Alexander mid sentence and throwing the living room into pin drop silence. From the corner of my eyes, I see Jarred grip the car keys in his hand before slightly lowering his head. That moment, I knew I was done for. I slowly turn and face Alexander, expecting some sort of backlash, but instead, I was met with eyes that held a hint of.. wait, amusement? I wasn't very sure, but before I could figure out what it was, it disappeared, leaving behind his normal stoic expression, once again amused by how fast he could change expressions. “So you've been lying?” Panic immediately rose to my chest and I immediately shake my head. “Why would I lie about such a thing? I'm only saying.. there's really no need to escort me to the hospital, you're a business man and I presume you have a lot of work to do in the office, I don't want such trivial matter disturbing that.” Alexander slightly tilted his head. “I see, so the heir to my empire is a trivial matter?” My cheeks immediately flushed. “I didn't say that! I'm only saying your work–” “Enough.” Alexander's stern voice cut into my sentence. “I will take you to go see the doctor tomorrow, that is final.” He lowered his back again. “Unless you're afraid of something?” My palms fisted tightly by my sides and I stared into his eyes. “I am not afraid because I know I am saying the truth.” Alexander smirked again, immediately making my stance waver a little, he looked dashing whenever he did that. I immediately bite down on my tongue, what in the hell am I thinking? “I see.” Was all Alexander said before straightening his suite and then disappearing into what seemed to be a study room. “I'll take my leave now.” Jarred announces from the back and also walks away, leaving me alone in the mighty living room. I sigh and looked down at my palms which now held the tears sliding down my cheeks. “Conner.. please help me this time around.” I whisper when the device in my right pocket suddenly began to ring. Wiping my tears, I gazed at the caller ID and saw that it was Marilyn calling. Oh God, I had completely forgotten about her. I immediately pick the call and her worried voice soon oozes from the other side of the phone. “Victoria? You've been bailed out? How are you? I hope those filthy cops didn't do anything? I–” “Marilyn, please calm down, I'm fine now.” I said, trying my best not to make my shaky breath unnoticed, but Marilyn as always was bery attentive and immediately took notice of how I sounded. “Victoria? Is there a problem? Did anyone hurt you?” “Alexander bailed me out.” I speak, hoping to redirect the conversation and it seemed like it worked, because after my sentence came a loud gasp from Marilyn. “He did?! I thought he hated yo–” Marilyn immediately coughs and lowers her tone. “Sorry, I mean.. everyone knows that Mr Blackwood and you are not really on good terms.. so I'm surprised that he had actually bailed you out.. Maybe he's changed now?” I sigh, I was never a fan of internet gossip, nor was I really close to Victoria back then, so I didn't care to ask if her relationship with Alexander was good or bad as people claimed, how could I either ways? I also had my battles going on with the Winston family. This whole situation now makes me wonder, Victoria was a nice and kind lady, so why does Alexander despise her? “Victoria? Hello?” Marilyn’s voice immediately snaps me out of my revere and I rub the space between my eye brows. “Marilyn?” “Yes, Victoria, I'm here. Is there a problem?” “I need to tell you something.”~Aubrey“On second thoughts, never mind, it isn't important.”“Victoria are you sure?” Marilyn asks from the other end and I pinch the space between my brows. What was I thinking wanting to tell her the truth? What did I even want to tell her anyways?Oh, I'm actually your best friend Aubrey in Victoria's body? The fuck?Marilyn is important to me right now, she's going to be very helpful now and in the future, I can't afford to loose her because she thinks I've gone crazy after spending some hours in jail.I sighed. “Yeah I'm sure, it's nothing important.” Marilyn hums from the other end. “If you so. I'll leave you to rest now, call me if you need anything, alright?”“Alright.” I replied and she finally disconnects the call, silence enveloping me once again. I slip the phone back into my pocket and run my fingers though my hair. “Dear universe, I hope I don't die in Alexander's hands tomorrow.”~~Alexander’s povI walk into the study room, closing the door shut behind me. My finger
"Why?” I ask but Alexander does not respond and instead walks towards me, his eyes never leaving the gown. Once he was a few metres away, he finally takes his gaze off my dress, but only repeated what he had said initially.“I want that dress off you.”I'm about to insist on why he wants me to do so, but he turns around and heads into the car, I follow suite and a crease forms between my brows before I turn to face him. “Why do you want me to change into something else? Is there something wrong with the dress?”He ignored me and instead faced Jarred, who was handling the steering wheel. "Take us to a boutique."I didn't utter a word and just gazed out the window, confusion still etched on my face. Why in the world was he so adherent on me changing?Soon we arrived at the butique and we stepped inside, the opulent interior enveloping us. I see everyone's gaze land on us and gasps soon echoed throughout the store.“Wait, isn't that Mr Blackwood?”“Oh my, what's he doing here?”“He looks
The expression on the man’s face immediately transformed from that of confidence to fright. “B-blackwood?” He stammered before falling to his knees. “I had no i-idea you were with her sir, please forgive me.”“Get out before I do something despicable.” Alexander briefly speaks, wiping the dirt on his hand with his silky handkerchief. The three men all nodded hastily before quickly scurrying away like frightened rabbits and it made me wonder, why was everyone so afraid of Alexander? Even in my past life, everyone including the Winston's were terrified of him, I mean looking at him you'd instantly know he's not someone to be messed with, but that alone couldn't be the reason why everyone was so scared, right?I push that thought aside and instead force a small smile at him. “Thank you.”“I did that for the baby, not you.” Alexander responds, his eyes still on the hand he was wiping and I dismissively click my tongue. So rude.Soon enough, as if luck wasn't on our side, rain began to p
The old lady placed a gentle hand on her grandson's shoulder, her expression soothing. "That's all in the past, now let's get back to our dinner."Lionel's face twisted in frustration. “How can you be so calm grandma? He's the one who made you loose your shop!”The old lady smiled faintly. "Even if we bring it up dear, what will be done? Will it change anything? or do you believe we could win a court case against Mr. Blackwood?"Lionel's scowl deepened, but he did not say anything else, his fists just quietly clenched by his sides.~AubreyMy attention soon shifted to little Kiya, who excitedly skipped towards me with her doll. "This is Victoria, but I call her Pink Vickie!"I smiled, taking the doll from her. "Pink Vickie? But what's the 'Pink' for?" Kiya giggled, her eyes sparkling. "It's because her hair is pink!"I mouthed an 'O' and smiled. "I see."Just then, Alexander's deep voice cut through the warmth. "Drop the kid and go to bed, you're already carrying one in your tummy, is
The nurse? She was a.. spy?Alexander had planted her as a spy?Conner's whispered words hung in the air, and I stand stiff for a while, unaware of how to react. All I await now is a positive response about my charity event."I nod curtly, trying to process everything. For Alexander to actually plant a spy.. does it mean he still does not believe my lie?"Of course." The car sped down the highway, its tires screeching in protest as it was now out of control. I was trapped, unable to do anything as the world around me became a blur. Tears streamed down my face as I frantically tried to search for an escape but it was no use. My phone suddenly rang and Kenneth's name flashed on the screen. I hesitated for a bit, my heart racing, before answering. "Kenneth.. Kenneth.. please help us. The brakes.. they're not working.” "Aubrey, my love.” His voice came out gentle yet cold, sending shivers down my spine. “I'm afraid I had to take drastic measures.” "What.. what do you mean?" I stammered, my mind racing with different thoughts. I knew what he was capable of, but he wouldn't go this far, right? ..I did not want to believe that my own husband.. no. But his next words immediately shattered me. "I cut the brakes Aubrey, I had to ensure our little problem went away. You understand, don't you?" He paused, his tone dripping with malice. "You were going to g
~Aubrey The hospital’s room door burst open and a flurry of family members entered, their faces etched with anger and disgust. "You're awake.” My mother in-law, Georgina Winston spat as if it was a crime. "Finally, we can get some answers." I tried to speak, but my voice was still weak. "You killed her, didn't you?" Richard Winston, my husband’s cousin questioned, his voice venomous. "You were always so jealous of Aubrey, and now that she's gone you're satisfied aren't you?!” Janet Winston, my husband's aunt added. I snickered inwardly, a bitter taste in my mouth. Their accusations cut deep, but I knew the truth, this was all a pretence, they didn't love nor care about Aubrey, my past self. They had tolerated her, abused her and now that they must have figured Kenneth was behind the accident, they needed a scapegoat to blame everything on, and who else made the perfect target asides Victoria, the timid wife of Alexander Blackwood who also happened to be the one driving the car
