~Chapter 1

Julius POV

"The meeting is by 5pm tomorrow" I informed, hoping I didn't actually have to remind him about it. "Better get those files on my table by tomorrow morning" I ordered, my voice unwavering and serious

Aldonis was pissing me off, he'd been messing up all the work I'd been giving to him lately and it was very annoying to say the least. He'd come to work two hours late and leave all the work for me to do at the last second. Don't get me wrong I wasn't a lazy boss neither was I the type to leave all the work for my workers but the individual responsibilities I assign to each one of them should be dutifully carried out and Aldonis seemed to be forgetting the strict rules this business follows.

As my right hand he is expected the most from. He is my most trusted out of all and I expected more from him.

"Okay boss, I'll get to it". I nodded unconsciously as I put down the phone, deflating into my seat.

"Don't forget the dinner Julius" father reminded from beside me and I groaned inwardly, hating this topic and anything that had to do with it. I rolled my eyes at his tone, it was like a parent reminding his children to brush his teeth and I was no child.

"Father, canceling the meeting will prove detrimental to my business. I'll lose millions" I frowned at him

We had this conversation three days ago when I received this partnership proposal and it just so happened to be on the same day as the dinner with Mr Vladislav and his family.

How convenient.

"You are a businessan Julius" he began and I already knew where this was going. "Gaining profit and incuring losses is all a part of business. It won't kill you to miss one business proposal, besides your company is much larger and it won't affect you that much" he spoke in a duh tone and I clenched my jaw in annoyance, running my hands through my hair in an attempt to soothe my irritation that was rising

Knowing fully well my father's intense stare was aimed at me I did not make the mistake of looking at him but instead I paid half attention to the emails I had opened on my phone.

"Father

I can't lose millions over a dinner with people I know nothing about " I spoke calmly, despite feeling quite the opposite. I was frustrated and damn right mad he would want me to put a stupid dinner over my business.

No matter how angry or upset I got I would never make the mistake of raising my voice to my father. I knew better.

"We have old ties with them. We have some unfinished business to attend to so act the part" he commanded, giving me a side glance that made me very uncomfortable and curious all at once.

"What unfinished business?" I asked, regretting it immediately at the look that took over his face

"You are on a need to know basis. As in right now you don't need to know" he shuts me down, making me clench and unclench me costs in anger.

If he wasn't my father as if I didn't respect him as the temporary boss I would have said one or two very ugly things but I knew better than to lose my cool. I had to remind myself that there were greater things than my anger, I had to accomplish my goal and to do that my anger had to be in check.

"Carol" I called out to the other end of the phone, once my assistant had picked up.

"Yes sir?"

"Cancel all my appointments from tomorrow evening". I chewed at my lips, agitated. " Tell the Bruce's we will meet another time"

"Okay sir" she answered softly, her tone much lighter than it actually was. I rolled my eyes at her intentions. She'd become really persistent and attached lately

I put down the phone and looked out the window and onto the streets, as the street lights illuminated the dark paths as we drove by.

Millions of thoughts were swarming through my head, concerning the mafia, my inheritance and why the hell father wanted this dinner. He wouldn't deem something so trivial as important if he didn't have something planned, being on a need to know basis meant I had to find out when we got there and O wasn't particularly ecstatic about meeting people I barely knew. Who in their right mind would?

But I as a businessman and future heir to the mafias had to know when to make sacrifices for the bigger picture. And if missing millions meant I got my inheritance then I'd gladly oblige. My rights were long overdue.
