JASMINES POV
Thoughts. More thoughts. Extra thoughts. All night, that was all running through my mind. A brother? I scoffed, turning to the other side of the bed. That was when I realized the sun was out. I’d spent all night pondering on Natalia’s words. I wanted to come down from my bed and feed my thirst, but my body isn't encouraging. I needed rest, even if it was for an hour or two. I shut my eyes, hoping to sleep this time. And just when I thought I was drifting into sleep, a knock came on my door. My eyes snapped open, and I sat up on the bed. The door opened, it was Caine. “Long night?” He asked, walking into my room. I sighed, collapsing on my bed. “How’s Jerry?” I asked, rubbing my eyes. They were beginning to feel heavy with sleep, but with Caine in my room, I knew my day had just begun. “He’s recovering well. Just the…you know…” he said, helping himself to a chair opposite my bed. I sat back up, holding my banging head with both hands. “Cool,” I dragged. “I came to call your attention to something. Our dads are seeing the Seeker off,” he announced, sending my head reeling from where it was buried. “Seeing her off? Like she’s free to go?” I asked, and I got my answer without him having to say the words. I quickly changed into something better while Caine waited outside the door. When I was done, we hurried to the front yard, and I bumped into them having a quiet discussion. “Why? She could come back anytime and take the face of someone. Or what…has she gotten what she wanted? I thought she was here for me?” I threw several questions at Caine. “I have no idea, Jasmine. All we can do now is ask our dads,” he said. My dad glanced at me, his face heavy with untold secrets. He handed a key to Natalia and stepped away from the bike. But Natalia didn’t mount the bike immediately. She looked back at me, spinning the key in her index and biting her lower lip. “See you soon, Jasmine,” I almost freaked out when I heard her voice in my head. With that, she mounted the bike and sped off. “You let her go!” I called my dad specifically but to the hearing of the alpha. Alpha Morgan took another path that led straight to his son behind us while I confronted my dad. “She’s dangerous,” “If she is, then you should be locked up too,” he returned with a calm expression. But I wasn’t buying that. “Sweetie,” “Something isn’t right,” “We had a deal,” my father interrupted me. I froze for a few seconds and glanced at the Alpha who seemed to also be getting it hot from Caine before returning to face my dad. “A deal? With a shapeshifter? Common dad! You can do better!” My voice took a higher pitch, my wolf stirring angrily inside. “You know what she can do, right?” “Jasmine, hear me out. We did it to keep you safe. One day, you’ll understand. But for now…just let this be,” “What deal?” I asked him. He heaved a sigh, the reluctance to tell me very obvious in his eyes. “Dad, what deal?” I repeated with a racing heart. “We urm…came to an agreement that if you finally meet your wolf, and it turns out to be the Seeker wolf that emerges first…she would come back for you,” he said, sending me into a storm as I stood frozen, staring at him. Maybe I did have a lot to say to him, but my words went missing the moment I opened my mouth to speak. He gave my shoulder a little massage and pulled me closer to him. I was too weak to shrug him off, so I let him have his way and leave. “Are you okay?” Caine pulled from behind. I wiped the tears that trickled down my eyes immediately I heard his voice and nodded. “Yeah…I guess,” “Common…we’ve got a wolf hunter to deal with and an unfinished list,” he said, leading the way into the Alpha’s house. With Natalia gone, it meant my life in the Alpha’s house had come to an end, and now, I was going back to what used to be left of my life. I packed my bag and joined Caine downstairs. “I bet they’ll be excited to have us back,” he tried to ease the tension in the air. But I was paying less attention to him. My father had struck a deal with someone I was supposed to be protected from, as the only way to protect myself now was to train the right wolf. If I knew which was which. ***** When we arrived at the pack house, most of the students were gathered at the gates, sharing green envelopes with people. From the little I heard before we walked past them, they were hosting a party. “Silly…they’re supposed to be training,” Caine said, tossing the letter into the bin. The group ran out to greet him. Lucy led the way. She hugged him and kissed him. I held the urge to roll my eyes and just stepped aside, forcing a smile on while I stood and watched. “Look what you’ve done,” Spencer decided to shift the attention to me. I would be lying if I said I didn’t expect a hurl of accusations from them. I turned to walk away but Harper stepped in my path. “You‘ve done enough, medium rare,” he snapped. “Let her be,” Lucy stood up for me. I wasn’t expecting her, neither did I need her to. I had expected it to be Caine, but it was obvious to me where his loyalties lay. “We all saw the footage. Jerry tried to rape her, and she defended herself. So come off it,” she grabbed my hand and pulled me past them. We turned to head to my room when someone pounced on me, sending my body rolling down the stairs. I struggled to get a grip, but I wasn’t able to do that until I hit the base. “Get off her!” Lucy yelled. The hand gripped my neck, and when I tried fighting back, I felt a sharp pain in my neck. “It was you all along! You killed my parents!” Isha grunted, her eyes red and filled with rage. *******CAINE’S POV“Get off her!” I raced past Jojo and Imani, almost knocking them down as I made my way to Jasmine and Isha. I pulled Isha off her and flung her to the feet of her brothers. “Keep your eyes on her!” I yelled at them. For a second, I thought I saw the disappointment in their eyes. They helped Isha up, holding her still despite her aggressive kicks to be set free and yolk her into the living room. “Are you okay?” I extended my hand to help her up. “Yeah,” she coughed, almost falling back on my shoulder. Lucy stepped in between us. “I’ll take her from here,” she said, pulling Jasmine away from me. We all went into the living room but were divided. Jojo and Lucy were with Jasmine, while Harper, Spencer, and Imani were with Isha. I could already sense trouble coming hard at us. “She killed them,” Isha cried, sobbing in the arms of her brothers. “We’ll deal with that later, Isha,” I tried to keep her calm, but that made her angrier. Her blood-red eyes shot angrily at me, sn
JASMINES POVI pressed my hand against my chest, leaning on the side of the wall as my mind spiraled out of control. Thoughts flew in like my mind was a passageway for them, causing my breath to come out ragged. A lot had happened in just what?—three days? And yet there was still someone downstairs calling me a murderer. How was I supposed to face all these while trying to focus on what wolf I would train? Not to speak of my father's deal with Natalia. I heaved a sigh, halted before my mirror, and ran my hands down my hair. The echoes of laughter and muffled sounds of music traveled into my room, it was a room party which I was informed about but declined. But I couldn’t stay in my room, not with all these thoughts running into my head. I needed a distraction, and the room party just seemed like it.With a little touch on my face and hair, I made my way to the room. Room 27. I knocked twice and the door flung open almost immediately, revealing an unfamiliar face. “I know you,” he
JASMINES POVI was too wasted to act. I just sat there, letting the chaos around me do its thing. My head fell to the chair, watching as the ceiling traveled in circles. I thought I saw some runes on them, calling into me with its blue glowing light. They looked pretty, and I extended my hands, wishing I could float in the air and know what they felt like. But the music in the room died down, cutting my solemn moment short.“Let’s go, Jasmine,” I heard Caines voice. He sounded muffled, and I couldn’t see his face. “You’re drunk, how much did you have to drink?” He asked, throwing my hand around his shoulder and grabbing me from the waist. I knew what was happening around me, but at the same time, I didn’t. For a second I thought I was levitating, but then whenever I looked at Caine, that hope was gone. I didn’t feel sad or anything, just…empty. For once., nothing bothered me. Caine led me out of the room, and to stop my eyes from hurting, I closed them and rested my head on his sh
CAINES POV“You shouldn’t have moved the bodies,” Sheriff Sherwood returned to us, pocketing his gun.“We’re sorry, we just couldn’t stand and do nothing,” I replied. He gestured with his head for us to walk with him, and we didn’t stop until we were out of the crime scene, standing amid police vans and ambulances. I knew what he wanted to say just by looking at him. “Look, I’m sorry uncle, I just had to call in this favor. I understand you’ve helped us a lot of times, and my dad probably owes you for the countless favors you have rendered…”“Kid…”“Just…please. This is more like an outbreak than a crime scene. It’s…” I paused, staring at the bodies that were being moved. “It’s dark,” I completed. Uncle Sherwood, my father's younger brother, was the family’s stray child. He started by not meeting his wolf when he was younger, by hanging out in the human world, and always sneaking out of the house. According to my father, he got into more trouble than we could count. LUCY'S POVMy heart skipped a beat as the bag fell from my shoulder, the blood bags which I had stolen from the pack clinic sprawling on the floor. “Oh my God! Caine!” I exclaimed, trying to hide the guilt as I started linking them up with a rush. I tossed them into the bag, not paying attention to whatever he was saying.“Lucy, I asked a question!” He pulled my shoulder, sending me to the floor. I fell on my butt, wincing in pain. “Oh my…Luce, I’m sorry…I didn’t mean to,”“Stay away from me,” I yelled, stopping him with an extended palm. I took my time on the floor, thinking of what lie to give to him so he wouldn’t go asking questions. “Lucy…I didn’t mean to hit you in that manner,” he apologized, taking further steps closer to me. I burst into tears, burying my head in my legs. That was the first excuse I could garner from my thoughts, just so I’d have enough time to think. “Don’t touch me, Caine,” I whimpered, sobbing into my palms. “You almost ruined it all. My efforts. LUCY’S POV “Whatever this is, Luce, it’s not normal,” Bryan said, inching closer to me. I sighed, falling back on the wooden chair behind me. We stood for almost ten minutes, waiting for Adrian to finish up with his meal. When he was finally done, he crept out from the darkness, the red eyes still glowing as he made himself visible. I felt tears brewing in my eyes as I stood up and tossed a jacket to him. “Put these on”. “How long has he been this way,” Bryan asked, helping me with the empty blood bags. “A month, two or three weeks. I can’t really tell. All I know is that there was something wrong with him the last time I went home,” “There’s nothing wrong with me,” Adrian interrupted, walking out of the darkness completely. He exhaled, slowly opening his eyes. The red was gone, likewise the rage. “Dad did something new, and for the first time it worked,” “For the first time?” I asked, trying to process what he meant. “Have there been other trials, Adrian?” “Yeah…they all
JASMINE’S POV “Can I have a word with you?” I asked, stealing glances at Bryan who was looking out of the window. Caine was still answering a call at the garage while I pulled Lucy to a corner. “That’s him,” I blurted. “Him? What do you mean by him?” “My ex, Lucy, Bryan. That’s him,” I clarified. My heart raced, my blood boiling as I mistakenly looked into his eyes. He looked away immediately, and I knew that guilt was eating him up. “Your…ex? That Bryan?” “Yes, Lucy, that's Bryan,” I answered. “Okay, chill. He’s been my work partner for a while now. I never knew he was the Bryan you were talking about,” Lucy snapped. She noticed that wasn’t going to get me calm, so instead, she took my hands and pulled me closer to her. “Hey, nothing is going on between us, he’s just a colleague. I am with Caine, remember?” She asked. I didn’t want to give her a response, but the way she looked into my eyes demanded one. I nodded consecutively. “Yeah, yeah,” I breathed. “An
“Oh Christ!”I turned away as my heart thundered in my rib cage. What have I just witnessed?“Luce?” I called the name of my best friend who I just walked in on kissing the boy of my dreams.Caine Creek, the hottest boy in school, my crush and the Alpha's son.He just had his tongue down the throat of my best friend and his hand under her mini skirt."Jasmine" she called my name and I could clearly hear the annoyance in her voice, I had just cut short her smooching with Caine.“Oh, I didn’t know you would be here” my voice came out weakly and tears threatened to fall from my eyes.I was hurt. Why?Because I told Lucy how much I like Caine the day before. She had pushed me and I confessed my feelings to her, after that she offered to help me get him.But here she was almost eating his face up."I'll see you later, bye baby" I heard her saying to Caine as my back was still turned to them.Baby?? Since when?I heard some rustling and Lucy was soon at my side, grabbing me by the arm hars

But I guess Natalia could see beneath my words of defense like she knew I was broken. “Did she? I mean…look at the damage she has caused you. She’s made you look weak…you’ve become a mockery…so much for someone who falls under…” “Answers,” I interrupted, holding back the tears in my eyes.
