LUCY’S POV

“Whatever this is, Luce, it’s not normal,” Bryan said, inching closer to me. I sighed, falling back on the wooden chair behind me. We stood for almost ten minutes, waiting for Adrian to finish up with his meal.

When he was finally done, he crept out from the darkness, the red eyes still glowing as he made himself visible. I felt tears brewing in my eyes as I stood up and tossed a jacket to him.

“Put these on”.

“How long has he been this way,” Bryan asked, helping me with the empty blood bags.

“A month, two or three weeks. I can’t really tell. All I know is that there was something wrong with him the last time I went home,”

“There’s nothing wrong with me,” Adrian interrupted, walking out of the darkness completely. He exhaled, slowly opening his eyes. The red was gone, likewise the rage. “Dad did something new, and for the first time it worked,”

“For the first time?” I asked, trying to process what he meant. “Have there been other trials, Adrian?”

“Yeah…they all survived for just a day,” he answered.

My heart fluttered, beads of sweat trailing down my back and sending a cold shiver down my spine. My parents were exactly who I thought they were.

“We’ll get you help, Bryan knows someone…”

“Help?” He interrupted, buttoning up the jacket and inching closer to Bryan and me. “You think I need help? Does your boyfriend think I need help? Huh? Is that what this is?” He asked furiously, spitting blood on our faces.

For a split second fear gripped me, but Bryan held my hand and walked in front of me.

“Your sister wants what’s best for you,”

“Lies. Everyone wants what’s best for them…just like you and mum, using the Alpha’s son to get what you want. Now Dad wants something, and he has used me because I am the only…”

“Just…shut up! Adrian,” I cut him short, stepping out of Bryan’s back. I stared into his eyes, and that was when I knew they had completely brainwashed him. “What does dad want?” I asked.

“The blood of the seeker wolves. Rumor has it that there’s one in your school now,”

“No way am I letting you come close to my school,”

“Ohh…you think?” Adrian scoffed, walking into the darkness to take out his shoes and a cap which I found him lying with on the street two nights ago.

“As we speak, my admission papers are getting ready, sis,”

“If Dad cared so much for you why didn’t he come searching for you after you lost control?” I asked, and silence fell in the room. For a moment, I thought my words struck a nerve in his head, reminding him that none of our parents did give a fuck.

The silence in the room was broken by the distant blare of sirens. I hurried to the window and saw a few police vans heading our way. “Bryan, did anyone see you coming here?” I asked, turning to him.

“Urm…I passed a couple of police on the road. But it was all good, they…”

“We’re leaving, now,” I cut him short, grabbing my leather jackets from the window seal and headed to the door.

“Fine, leave. I’ll handle them,” Adrian blurted, and I halted in my tracks.

“You can’t fight them off, Adrian,”

“You think?”

“I don’t think, I know!” I yelled. He wasn’t going to come along if I stopped there, and with an angry sigh, I walked back to him. “Have you heard of Sheriff Sherwood? The alpha brother who lives with the humans? I bet you haven’t,” I paused, watching my words take its effects on him.

“If you know what happens when a werewolf sheriff works on the side of humans, you wouldn’t be thinking of carrying out that dumb action you have in your thoughts,” I said and stormed out, Bryan following behind.

He tossed his bicycle at the back of the van and jumped into the front seat. Adrian hazed out of the building the moment I ignited the engine and joined us in the back seat.

“What? Drive!” He yelled after I turned to look at him.

I hit the accelerator and drove out using the path behind the cottage. I hid the van in the tall bushes until the police cars all passed us, and then I steered and drove away. We’d gone a few meters when I hit the break.

“Shit! The blood bags,” I hissed, looking through the rear. It wasn’t in the back seat, and Bryan looked as shocked as I did, which meant he wasn’t with it.

“Just drive, we’ll get it back,” Adrian muttered. He sounded confident, and for unknown reasons I bought it.

********

When we arrived at Bryan's motel, Adrian was the first to come down from the car. He was restless, but Bryan and I needed to talk.

“My father needs the blood of a seeker?”

“He said…seekers,” Bryan reminded. “But there’s just one now, right?”

I looked at him, and we both knew who he was talking about. Somehow the news had gotten to him, but how did he know she was the one?

“You know?”

“Of course. She nearly blasted my brains in the camp a few weeks ago,”

“A camp?”

“Yeah…hung out with Caine at the human camp, kissed him, slept in the same tent,” he said. There was a spark in my chest, one that wasn’t supposed to be there. Caine was just the tool—a fake boyfriend until all this was over. Bryan was the real deal.

“It doesn’t make you a bit jealous, does it?” He asked, snapping me back to reality. I forced a smile.

“Of course not,” I said and kissed him. “How about you? Did it make you jealous even a little, watching them?” I asked.

He scoffed, leaning back in his chair. “Jasmine and I are in the past now,”

“What were you doing at the camp anyway?” I asked again, curiosity eating me up.

The screeching of car tires pulled our attention away from each other. The black familiar car packed at the corner of the motel, and Caine came down.

“Fuck…that’s Caine. Get down,” I freaked out.

“Lucy?” A feminine voice called from the side of my window.

I looked up and found Jasmine waving with a smile, but it vanished immediately.

“Bryan?” She muttered, her face turning red.

She noticed that wasn’t going to get me calm, so instead, she took my hands and pulled me closer to her. “Hey, nothing is going on between us, he’s just a colleague. I am with Caine, remember?” She asked. I didn’t want to give her a response, but the way she looked into my eyes demanded one. I nodded consecutively. “Yeah, yeah,” I breathed. “An

LUCY'S POVMy heart skipped a beat as the bag fell from my shoulder, the blood bags which I had stolen from the pack clinic sprawling on the floor. “Oh my God! I tossed them into the bag, not paying attention to whatever he was saying.“Lucy, I asked a question!” He pulled my shoulder, sending me to the floor. I fell on my butt, wincing in pain. “Oh my…Luce, I’m sorry…I didn’t mean to,”“Stay away from me,” I yelled, stopping him with an extended palm. I took my time on the floor, thinking of what lie to give to him so he wouldn’t go asking questions. “Lucy…I didn’t mean to hit you in that manner,” he apologized, taking further steps closer to me. I burst into tears, burying my head in my legs. That was the first excuse I could garner from my thoughts, just so I’d have enough time to think. “Don’t touch me, Caine,” I whimpered, sobbing into my palms. “You almost ruined it all. My efforts. He gestured with his head for us to walk with him, and we didn’t stop until we were out of the crime scene, standing amid police vans and ambulances. I knew what he wanted to say just by looking at him. “Look, I’m sorry uncle, I just had to call in this favor. I understand you’ve helped us a lot of times, and my dad probably owes you for the countless favors you have rendered…”“Kid…”“Just…please. This is more like an outbreak than a crime scene. JASMINES POVI was too wasted to act. I just sat there, letting the chaos around me do its thing. My head fell to the chair, watching as the ceiling traveled in circles. I thought I saw some runes on them, calling into me with its blue glowing light. They looked pretty, and I extended my hands, wishing I could float in the air and know what they felt like. But the music in the room died down, cutting my solemn moment short.“Let’s go, Jasmine,” I heard Caines voice. He sounded muffled, and I couldn’t see his face. “You’re drunk, how much did you have to drink?” He asked, throwing my hand around his shoulder and grabbing me from the waist. I knew what was happening around me, but at the same time, I didn’t. For a second I thought I was levitating, but then whenever I looked at Caine, that hope was gone. I didn’t feel sad or anything, just…empty. For once., nothing bothered me. Caine led me out of the room, and to stop my eyes from hurting, I closed them and rested my head on his sh

JASMINES POVI pressed my hand against my chest, leaning on the side of the wall as my mind spiraled out of control. Thoughts flew in like my mind was a passageway for them, causing my breath to come out ragged. A lot had happened in just what?—three days? And yet there was still someone downstairs calling me a murderer. How was I supposed to face all these while trying to focus on what wolf I would train? Not to speak of my father's deal with Natalia. I heaved a sigh, halted before my mirror, and ran my hands down my hair. The echoes of laughter and muffled sounds of music traveled into my room, it was a room party which I was informed about but declined. But I couldn’t stay in my room, not with all these thoughts running into my head. I needed a distraction, and the room party just seemed like it.With a little touch on my face and hair, I made my way to the room. Room 27. They helped Isha up, holding her still despite her aggressive kicks to be set free and yolk her into the living room. “Are you okay?” I extended my hand to help her up. “Yeah,” she coughed, almost falling back on my shoulder. Lucy stepped in between us. “I’ll take her from here,” she said, pulling Jasmine away from me. We all went into the living room but were divided. Jojo and Lucy were with Jasmine, while Harper, Spencer, and Imani were with Isha. I could already sense trouble coming hard at us. “She killed them,” Isha cried, sobbing in the arms of her brothers. “We’ll deal with that later, Isha,” I tried to keep her calm, but that made her angrier. I needed rest, even if it was for an hour or two. I shut my eyes, hoping to sleep this time. And just when I thought I was drifting into sleep, a knock came on my door. My eyes snapped open, and I sat up on the bed. The door opened, it was Caine. “Long night?” He asked, walking into my room. I sighed, collapsing on my bed. “How’s Jerry?” I asked, rubbing my eyes. They were beginning to feel heavy with sleep, but with Caine in my room, I knew my day had just begun. “He’s recovering well. Just the…you know…” he said, helping himself to a chair opposite my bed. I mean who would want to trust me after going through that betrayal from her mother,” “She did it to keep me safe,” I defended my mom despite how it hurt me to know about all this. But I guess Natalia could see beneath my words of defense like she knew I was broken. “Did she? I mean…look at the damage she has caused you. She’s made you look weak…you’ve become a mockery…so much for someone who falls under…” “Answers,” I interrupted, holding back the tears in my eyes.
