“Oh Christ!”
I turned away as my heart thundered in my rib cage.
What have I just witnessed?
“Luce?” I called the name of my best friend who I just walked in on kissing the boy of my dreams.
Caine Creek, the hottest boy in school, my crush and the Alpha's son.
He just had his tongue down the throat of my best friend and his hand under her mini skirt.
"Jasmine" she called my name and I could clearly hear the annoyance in her voice, I had just cut short her smooching with Caine.
“Oh, I didn’t know you would be here” my voice came out weakly and tears threatened to fall from my eyes.
I was hurt.
Why?
Because I told Lucy how much I like Caine the day before. She had pushed me and I confessed my feelings to her, after that she offered to help me get him.
But here she was almost eating his face up.
"I'll see you later, bye baby" I heard her saying to Caine as my back was still turned to them.
Baby??
Since when?
I heard some rustling and Lucy was soon at my side, grabbing me by the arm harshly and pulling me away from the music room.
Before the door closed, I turned to take one last look at Caine and my eyes met with his.
Cold, empty, void and staring at me with hate like the rest of the school.
"What's up ugly duckling?" One of my bullies called out to me as Lucy pulled me to the restroom.
"Beat it Spencer!" Lucy yelled at him and he rolled his eyes before walking away.
We got into the restroom and Lucy slammed the door shut, bolted it and turned to face me with an irritated look. "Wrong timing Jaz, wrong fucking timing!" she yelled as she stared at me angrily and i cowered and backed off.
"I'm sorry, didn't know you were going to be there" I defended quickly and she sighed before backing up.
She stared at me as I shivered weakly, from fear of getting my only friend getting angry at me and with hurt of seeing her kiss the boy I liked.
"Right, it's not your fault" she said and exhaled again before turning to face the mirror.
As she arranged her long straight shiny black hair, I could only stare at her in silence while wishing my red rough and loud curls could look like hers.
“Caine said he likes me” Lucy suddenly said breaking the silence.
“Oh” my mouth formed a soft O in shock as my heart doubled again.
“And we kissed, ohhhh it was lovely” she continued, not minding the fact that I was a second away from breaking down.
“But I told you I liked him” I gathered the courage to say to her.
I saw her roll her eyes before she looked away from the mirror to face me.
Arms folded and a lazy shrug before she stared talking.
“I’m sorry Jaz, I should have told you since but I’ve liked Caine for a while now. Last night I decided I had to tell him how I felt about him, and guess what? He likes me back” she said.
But why hadn't she told me that when I said I had a huge crush on him.
“Oh, that’s… that’s cool” I nodded and looked away.
“I mean, I can understand if you’re jealous” Lucy started saying as she turned to face the mirror.
“I’m not jea….”
“Here, hold my bag”. She shoved her pink Chanel bag in my stomach and stood in front of the mirror to reapply her lip gloss “I mean, he’s the Alpha’s son and next in line to be the Alpha. Everyone wants him” she continued like she did not hear me talking.
I quietly stood by her as she fixed her lips and her make-up, something I tried once and was mocked all over school for it.
“He’s so cool, he’s a bad boy, and besides, he’s so hot, have you seen his tattoos? I heard he got away with it because he’s the Alpha’s son” she said and I sighed lowly.
That was not entirely true.
I knew Caine did some community service everyday after school as punishment, since his father said he was too young to get tattoos and I knew this because I always sat at the old bridge close to the community hall watching him grumpily do his work.
"Mhmm" I replied absent-minded, my mind on how he always looked with those tattoos when he was shirtless and cleaning.
Lucy noticed the change in my demeanor and I heard a loud scoff before she turned to face me.
“Jasmine honey, you didn’t expect Caine to fall for you now did you?” She toyed with her hair as her eyes raked me from top to bottom in pure disgust.
I knew that look because everyone had it when looking at me.
“I… I just… I thought… I guess not. I just liked him, that’s all. Look at me and look at him” I laughed nervously
Lucy clicked her tongue and chuckled throatily.
“That’s right" she nodded still smiling
"I was about to say that. You still wear braces because your teeth is crooked, your hair is always tangled and it’s this weird shade of red”
“My mum says it beautiful” I countered and her lips curled in irritarion before her eyes did a do over again.
“Well your mum lied, you don’t expect me to sugar coat lies to make you happy, I’m your friend, I’ll tell you the truth” she said and pulled on my blouse.
My mum had given it to me as a birthday gift last year.
“You still wear these cheap drab skirt and look at your chest, it’s bare. You and Caine is like non-existent." she said and waved her hand in the air
"I think I suit him better” she touched her chest dreamily and laughed.
Lucy was being unnecessarily harsh and I blinked my eyes to keep my tears at bay.
“You know what? Come to my house later tonight, I’ll give you a makeover” she said and my spirits lifted instantly.
“Really?" I always loved our days together.
"Yes, sure. Now help me do these math and physics assignments. Bring them to my house when you're coming and make sure they're completed" she said dropping her pile of books in my hand which was already occupied with her bag.
But I was not worried, I could finish the assignment in time and get to her house for my make over session.
But when I went to her house that night, it was a different story.
Her Aunty Mrs Elena Landers opened the door looking tired as usual.
She was mate less and had no children and after Lucy's parents left, she had to take care of her.
“Lucy is not at home, didn’t she tell you she was going out with that boy?” Mrs Elena told me, the bottle of pills in her hand rattling as she moved.
“Boy? No… not at all. Thank you Mrs Landers" I thanked her and walked away, bringing my phone out to text Lucy, just in case she might have forgotten our plans for tonight.
“Caine took me out on a date” her response came a minute later.
My shoulders dropped as my heart for the second time that day as I walked back home, alone in the cold night.
I tugged on my short skirt as I walked into the hallway, ready for class and looking for Lucy.I was too busy crying, I didn't text her back after last night.Hopefully I don't get to hear her gushing about thier date or see hickeys he had given her all over her neck today.“The ugly duckling arrives” I heard the voice of my usual bullies as I walked towards my locker, it was too late to turn back now.I let my head drop so I would not look at their faces and be reminded of my nightmares.“What is with that green blouse? It's so ugly my eyes are becoming sore” Tatiana, the annoying girlfriend of Spencer said about my blouse and he kissed her cheek before laughing. They were surrounded by other boys and girls, littering the hallway before class.“Give me my twenty bucks Jerry, I told you her hair would still be tangled today. You didn’t expect her to change overnight did you?” Imani said to one of the boys and the rest laughed before he dug out his wallet and placed the dollar note in h
I heard a loud whistle and I looked around from where the sound come.I knew it meant danger, I had heard that sound in school many times. My eyes darted round in fear."Hey ogre!!" I heard a loud voice from behind the abandoned house in beside me.Spencer McHaton."Medium rare!!!" Another gruff voice called out as my heart beat loudly in fear."Leave me alone!" I cried out in fear as I hurried away from the lonely road I always took home.As my feet took me hurriedly away, I was not looking at my front until I bumped into a wall, hitting my chest and I fell to the floor, scraping my hands in the process."Where are you running to Princess?"When I opened my eyes, shaking away the thundering headache that was suddenly in my head, I came face to face with the wall had stumbled into.Harper, Spencer's fraternal crazy twin."I don't want any problem please, leave me alone please. I just want to go home" I cried as I saw my bleeding arms."Are you calling me a troublemaker?" Harper asked
Few blocks from my house, I cleaned my tears and tried to hide the red angry bruises on my arms. When I got home, the door was unlocked as usual but some of the things were missing in the living room, like the Tv and the tables."Mum?!" I called out for my mother but there was no reply."Mum?!"I walked up the stairs to her room to look for her and get an explanation to what was going on in our house. And my father was no where to be found. Not that it mattered because he was rarely at home but it's been two months since I last saw him.As the Beta of the pack , he was always busy but at night when I saw other fathers get home, I always wondered why mine never came back or even bothered calling. When I got into my mother's room, the sight was worse than what I had met in the living room. All her things were packed and her stuffs were labeled in different boxes on the floor."Mum, why is the... What's going on? Why are you packing? Are you giving your things out?" My questions came in
“Hello Mrs Elena, is Lucy home?” I asked Lucy's Aunty who I had met gardening right outside their house.I had come to tell my best friend that I was leaving.Ever since that incident in school, Lucy had refused to talk to me and I was not surprised when she did not come to look for me even when I had not showed up to school in days.So here I was trying to mend broken fences before I left and once again I was met with her absence.“No honey, she went out with that naughty boy again. After messing my sheets up, they leave my house in a mess. Once that stubborn girl comes home she’ll clean this house spotless like a maid. She just gets me mad all the time” Elena said furiously, digging away at the soil. The naughty boy in question: Caine Creek. But I could care less about him now, he no longer mattered to me."Do you know where she went to?" I asked her, helping her with her water can for her garden.“Thank you sweetie. Well, Lucy wouldn't tell me where they were headed but I heard the
"I'll give you a moment to clear out your locker alone. The classes are going on now, so you have enough time to get what you want and leave without any drama" The school principal, Miss Johnson, said to me after my mother told her on the phone that I was leaving school.By now I'm guessing half of the parents in the pack would've heard about the drama between my parents.I told her to plead with Miss Johnson to make my move as stealthy as possible, because I knew how much mockery I was going to get if the other students knew I was leaving."I heard about what was going on between you and the other students," she said behind me as we walked to my locker. "You lost so much weight," she added after I didn't say anything. She knew about it.The whole school knew about my bullying but no one did anything about it, they rather enjoyed it."I'm sorry I couldn't do anything about it, and I'm sorry about your parents" she said."I heard your father found his mate. Do you know her?" She asked
SIX YEARS LATERI opened the door to the house I once left and promised to never come back. But here I was standing in the middle of the empty living room and looking for the one man I swore to hate for the rest of my life.Last I heard, his mate died from a rouge attack in the pack and now my dad was mateless and wife-less.Alone, lonely and drowning himself in work as usual.Karma was a real bitch they said and I was witnessing.“Dad” I called to the man who was lying motionless in his bedroom staring at the ceiling. The house he once abandoned us, and even after we left he never called.“Jasmine, hey.” He laughed happily and stood up to hug me but his movements were slow, he had aged over the last six years.Slowly he let go of the hug but didn't let go of my hand.“How’re you?” I asked him, smiling a little and happy to see him. After my mother remarried, I figured it was time to let go of my grudges and I did.I had forgiven my dad already but I didn't know if I could ever forget
JASMINEThe silence that followed was deafening, almost scaring me out of my position. Caine stood before me, eyes seeing around like he’d just found a lost treasure. “I’m searching for Lucy. Any idea where she might be?” I asked, exchanging glances with the rest of the group. “Errands,” Caine replied. His voice sounded thicker and deeper than the last time we spoke. “Ohh…when she returns please tell her I stopped by,” I said to him and turned to leave. “Jasmine,” he called. I halted in my tracks and turned to him. He seemed to be contemplating approaching me. At first I thought he was seeking approval from the rest of the gang. Hell no. He was freaking Caine Creek. He didn’t need anyone’s approval. He gestured for them to leave, which they did. “You…just show up from nowhere after how many years?” He asked, covering the gap between us. There was no need to be scared this time. I was better than the last time we stood this close. The closer he got, the harder my heart raced. I
JASMINEThe tension between us was undeniable and I cursed myself for even acknowledging it. Caine leaned against the door frame, shirtless with his hands folded across his chest. His eyes scanned me all over again, like he was trying to figure me out all over again. “I’ll wait outside then,” I said to him and turned around to leave. “Maybe you haven’t heard but the pack is not as safe as when you left. We get surprise attacks at any time of the day. People go missing, dead bodies sprawl out of the ground almost every morning yet, no one has answers to these happenings,”“I’ll advise you to come in and wait,” he finally made his point. I won’t lie, the mention of getting attacked at any time of the day sent my heart racing. With a deep, regrettable sigh, I took another turn and made my way into the house. He locked the door and joined me shortly after putting on a shirt. The room was surprisingly clean for a guy like Caine. He wasn’t this arranged six years ago. I perched at the ed
LUCY’S POV Silence. It hovered in the car like a fourth passenger, safe from Caine’s loud thoughts. I sat beside him, my eyes hours on his wavering expression and demeanor. He was confused and it had something to do with what Jasmine must have told him. I didn’t utter a word to him or the sheriff. All the while, Bryan sat in front, staring outside the window. I couldn’t wait for us to arrive at our destination so we’ll get down to what’s next on our board now Jasmine and her family are out of the way. After taking several turns she routes through the dark, we finally drove up the hilly street that led directly to the alphas mansion. With the lights highlighting the large gates, I could see the Alpha waiting beside his car. He didn’t wait for us to arrive before he started walking towards the car. The sheriff finally came to a halt at the gate, and Caine hurriedly came down. “Baby, wait…” I attempted to go after him. Even his father who had been waiting for his safe arrival
JASMINES POV My great breath hitched, panic flaring through my chest as I watched Caine fall through the glass. For a moment I thought Natalia had lost her mind. She had just shoved him like he was a piece of object. “Why would you do that!” I yelled and raced to the window. It wasn't until I stared out of the shattered glass that my eyes widened in realization. Nina and Daria stood below, their expressions tense but focused. I saw someone putting Caine into the car, but I didn’t see who it was. “What are you waiting for? That’s the only way out of here,” Natalia snapped me out. I sighed, turning back to Father. His expression seemed like he was in support of her idea for me to jump. We are wolves by the way, what’s the worst that could happen? A fractured bone that would heal in seconds? “And what happens to you?” “This isn’t your fight anymore,” she answered. “Go, jump,” my dad urged me. I took a deep breath, shutting my eyes as I let myself off. I pierced through the a
JASMINES POV Pain. It came in sharp waves, crashing through my body like a relentless storm. My ears rang, muffling the panicked shouts and hurried footsteps around me. I tried to move, but my limbs felt heavy, pinned by an invisible weight. “Jasmine!” My mother’s voice was distant, filled with terror. I turned my head slowly, my vision swimming with bright hospital lights and shattered glass. My father lay a few feet away, motionless. I gasped, pushing through the pain to crawl toward him. My fingers trembled as I reached out, barely touching his hand. “Dad…” My voice was hoarse, barely a whisper. He groaned, stirring on the floor as his face turned to me. “Jasmine,” he called faintly. A sigh of relief left my lips, he was alive. But for how long? “He’s breathing,” I assured my mother. Relief fought against my rising fear. My father was alive, but for how long? I turned my head toward my mother, who was groaning as she tried to sit up. Blood trickled down her forehead. “Can
LUCY'S POVI stood at the door of Alpha Morgan, waiting to know what their final resolution was. My ears were wide open, eavesdropping on their conversation. They were taking so much time, and time wasn’t on my side either. Alpha Morgan glanced at me in a manner that made me feel like he knew I was eavesdropping on their conversation. He inched closer to the sheriff and whispered something into his ear, something I didn’t quite get. My heart sank as the sheriff turned and started walking towards me, his expression unreadable. I straightened my posture, forcing a calm expression on my face even though my hands were clenched into fists at my sides.“Lucy,” he called, stealing one more glance at Alpha Morgan who had taken his chair and was watching the two of us. “You may go,” he said. A heavy sigh of relief left my lips, my hand pretentiously resting on my chest. “You almost got me, sheriff. For a moment I feared you would believe those lies she told,” I muttered as I grabbed my bag
I quickened my pace, my heart racing in my chest. The narrow street stretched ahead, dimly lit by flickering streetlights. The sound of my footsteps echoed off the walls, and so did his. My mind raced with panic, trying to figure out what to do next.I glanced over my shoulder again. He wasn’t even trying to hide it now—his eyes locked on me, his pace deliberate and steady. My stomach twisted in knots as I realized I couldn’t outpace him like this.I ducked into an alley, the shadows swallowing me whole. My breath came in short, shallow bursts as I pressed my back against the cold brick wall. I strained my ears, listening for his footsteps. There they were. Closer now.“Fuck!” I cursed under my breath, bursting into a race. I reached for my phone mid-race, but I couldn’t get a view of my screen with the amount of wind seeping into my eye. It slipped out of my hand and fell, bringing me to an abrupt halt. One mistake I made. As I bent over to pick up the phone, he caught up with me,
JASMINES POVI stood at the base of the stairs, watching Livy ascend with her legs shaking with every step she took up. A feeling of relief coursed through me, at least she’d get a draw for what she did—or what she was doing. I still couldn’t quite understand how or when she became this person. Yes. I’d seen signs before, but I overlooked them, believing she was doing it intentionally. “I’ll see Jasmine off,” Caine’s brother said, attempting to walk past them. “I can walk by myself. I’ll find my way out,” I muttered, slowly turning around and walking away from the building. I fought the urge to glance back at what was going on until I was outside the walls of the alpha mansion. The car that was supposed to drive me back home was already waiting at the front of the building, with the back window winding down. I glanced at the driver, whose expression was screaming at me to enter the car and stop wasting his time. I moved to his side of the window and knocked. “I’ll walk,” I said a
JASMINES POV I sat in silence at the back of the car, my eyes fixed on nature's scenery outside the window as the car drove down the road. We passed the pack house, heading for the alpha mansion. Even with my gaze fixed outside the window, I could still feel the sheriff's eyes on me. The one time I stole a glance at the rear, I caught him staring. He didn’t even care if I caught him, his eyes didn’t waiver for the slightest second. The air was getting tight and thick, making the car space uncomfortable for me. I shifted uneasily in my seat, trying to ignore the intensity of the sheriff’s gaze. My wolf growled faintly in the back of my mind, sensing my unease. The car finally pulled into the long driveway leading to Alpha Morgan King’s mansion. The estate was as grand and imposing as I’d heard—tall iron gates, perfectly manicured lawns, and a towering structure that seemed to loom over everything around it. As the car came to a stop, the sheriff stepped out first, opening the do
JASMINES POV The ride home was silent, with my father occasionally glancing at me through the rearview mirror. I kept my gaze fixed on the passing scenery, replaying the scene at the hospital in my head. Caine’s words, or rather the lack of them, echoed painfully in my chest. “Caine’s gone,” I’d said to my father earlier, but now that reality was sinking deeper, it felt like a knife twisting in my heart. When we finally arrived home, I went straight to my room, dropping the untouched flask on the bedside table. My wolf growled softly in my mind, restless and agitated, but I silenced her with a deep breath. I couldn’t let my emotions spiral out of control—not yet. I stared back at the flask, wondering if I shouldn’t have left. Maybe I should have stayed back to fight for what rightfully belongs to me—to fight for Caine’s love. But to what end? Even when he was still with his memory, he didn’t love me as much as he said. And now, with his memories gone, what difference would it m
JASMINES POVI didn’t know if I should walk up to him or stand by and watch where he was going. It felt awkward, seeing him him here. He made a turn to the left, leaving my sight immediately. I attempted to go after him but froze mid-way. “We probably shouldn’t be seeing each other at this moment…” I thought. I retraced my steps back to Caine’s room. With a deep breath, I pulled the knob and strode in. I froze at the door when I spotted Lucy. She was sitting at the edge of the bed, tendering to his legs like she owned that part of his body. “Lucy,” I called with a heavy breath, forcing a smile to hide the gut-wrenching pain that struck my heart. “I didn’t expect to see you here,”“Jasmine,” she called in return, slipping out of the bed, being careful enough not to wake Caine. He looked so peaceful at sleep, and I wondered what must have gone down the past two days of my absence. Lucy’s eyes darted to the flask in my hand, and she smirked. “Figured someone had to take care of him
