The next morning Rosalia received a call from John O'Connor. They had finally completed the appropriate checks at the police station and released her hand gun.
She walked into the building instantly ready for a fight. When she arrived at the desk however, Officer O'Connor was very pleasant. "Miss Bernardi" he announced with a smile, making her very suspicious. "Lovely to see you again" Rosalia rolled her eyes, "you can't be serious right?" He laughed while grabbing the gun and release papers and placing everything on the desk in front of him. "Oh come on Rosalia. No hard feelings right?" "Err, you unlawfully arrested me, took my gun and let your colleague feel me up. I'd say we're not on good terms Officer O'Connor" she focused her attention on the paperwork signing in the appropriate places before looking back up at him. "I'm curious, what did the witnesses at the bar have to say?" "Clearly you know they backed you up" he replied back stating the obvious. He knew she was asking out of complete spite. "I assume you didn't actually catch the gunman either?" "Not yet, but we have some leads miss" "Sure you do" she rolled her eyes and picked up her gun. "Oh and thanks for getting me fired by the way. Really nice touch" John shrugged not feeling guilty at all. "Nothing to do with us sweet heart. Your boss had a right to hear the facts and unfortunately he did not condone guns in this workplace so that was your mistake I'm afraid" "Just goes to show, don't bother being a good Samaritan in this city. Gets you absolutely nowhere!" "Speaking of good Samaritans Miss Bernardi - did Giovanni De Luca give you that?" He asked, pointing to the hickey she had tried to cover up miserably with liquid foundation. She gave him the finger without responding and walked out of the station. €€€€€€€€€€€€€ Alessia De Luca shook her husband once again trying to wake him. He wriggled around annoyed and let out a groan of disapproval. "Nick please get up!" She shook him again before hearing him swear and sit up. "What the fück Alessia?" She jumped back a little frightened of his mood. "I-I've called you a few times, my brothers called earlier saying they were on their way and now they're here. You have to get up". In the last few months it was rare that Nico ever woke up in a good mood. He was drinking a lot more lately much to his wife's disappointment. He was frustrated that she had yet to give them a child. At first things were fine and the couple were happy just trying. However it was now a different story, fucking his wife was becoming a chore in his eyes, she had become obsessed with scheduling in intimate moments to conceive at the correct time. So far her plans just seemed pointless. When Nico finally made his way downstairs the brothers were enjoying breakfast with their sister. She was smiling and feeding them contently acting like she did not have a care in the world. She had become a pro at faking it. Nico greeted the brothers before sitting at the breakfast counter with them as his wife filled his plate with food and handed him a coffee. "We've got business to discuss" he discretely instructed after she was done. Alessia nodded and headed back upstairs to attend to a few things. "So it's tonight then?" Nico asked as soon as they were alone. Antonio nodded, "I'm sending Dante with some of two of the street crew". Dante was another soldier who worked closely with Antonio specifically. They had decided it was best to send someone with experience to lead the inexperienced members to victory. "We're sure this guy was involved?" "Positive" Matteo stated. "We just have to make sure this guy talks which is why we decided on Dante for that part. If he can tell us anything more it'll make our lives easier finding the rest of them". "Besides this card game is something else we need to look into," Giovanni stated, continuing with the business matters while taking a sip of his cappuccino. "It stays between us and we are only to use Ricci for assistance ok?" They nodded curiously waiting for more information. "The woman I've been seeing, Rosalia, was attacked 2 years ago" he reached into his pocket for a piece of paper and set it on the counter pushing it towards Matteo. "I have written down the date, the hospital she was admitted to and the college name she used to attend. Someone she shared a business class with sexually assaulted her and I want to know who he is. " Matteo stared at his brother with concern, "does she know you're doing this?" "Absolutely not. We are not to alert her in any way, understand? Just get the information and bring me a name. I'll take care of it from there" "Gio I don't think-" "Matteo, don't bother lecturing me about this. I've given you all a task now just do it. I want to deal with this fücker myself. She didn't go to the police so there is no report besides the medical examination. Obviously the card game is a priority. In the meantime though I expect answers on this subject and I expect complete discretion". €€€€€€€€€€€ Finding a job in Los Angeles was not an easy task. Even though Rosalia was fully qualified in Business Administration & Management as well as Interior Design, she was unable to land a proper job. For a short time she was able to work at an Interior Design firm who then unfortunately had no choice but to close their doors. Rosalia now found herself without even her bar job. She decided after her visit to the station to walk around the city approaching business and dropping off her CV. As usual offices were not hiring so she expanded her searches to local cafés and bars to try her luck. She was most definitely over qualified to pour drinks and wait on tables but anything would do at this point. There was no way she was going to let Emilia pay all the apartment expenses. Rosalia had finally given up for the day, frustrated at the constant rejection. She had given away all her CV's and finally stopped at a café for a snack and coffee. The waitress behind the counter was frazzled and ran off her feet unsure of what to do first. She looked like she was having an extremely bad day so Rosalia made sure to be patient when she was not served for a good fifteen minutes. "Hard day?" She asked as soon as it was her turn to wait for a coffee. "Oh like you wouldn't believe. We just had a walk out and my boss is busy with some personal matters and can't seem to find the time to come here and look after his business". She replied with extreme frustration while grinding some fresh beans for the coffee. "Oh really?" She nodded before tying her hair back, she was now sweating from her frantic behaviour. "I know this is pretty forward, but I'm actually looking for a job, even if it's just casual. I've also done a barista course and can make a pretty awesome coffee" "Can you start right now?" Rosalia was taken back at the request, especially because this girl was just a worker, she didn't exactly have the power to hire people. "I can't make guarantees but if you help me out right now I'd give a really good to my boss when he finally shows up and I'm sure he'll hire you. None of us are actually trained to make these coffees properly and sometimes we get complaints about them. If you could impress people today it could work in your favour?" Rosalia smiled, she really had nowhere else to be so why not work for free for a few hours and see if this opened a door to another opportunity. "Absolutely!" Immediately she made her way behind the counter and took over the industrial coffee machine while the girl got back to taking orders.Ladies and gentlemen, it's quite simple. You all shut the fück up and keep your heads down and you'll be free to continue your night!" The aggressive masked gunman stated in a matter of fact tone waving his firearm around. All she could see were his pupils - they seemed wild and out of control. He was pacing back and forth along the bar counter, almost unsure of his next move.Rosalia took a deep silent breath from behind the bar. Not again, she thought to herself scared and also a slight hint of annoyance deep within her thoughts. This was the second time this month the bar had been held up and she didn't want to get fired or killed for that matter. She needed this job desperately and having this happen twice on her watch was unacceptable in her eyes."Listen bitch" the wild gunman stated abruptly ripping her from her deep thoughts, "hurry the fück up with the money, I want it all in the bag!" She nodded obediently still looking into his eyes in an attempt to recognise him. "STOP FUC
"BASTARD!" Rosalia was uncontrollably screaming the police station down. Frantically trying to get free her attempts were only causing her to hurt herself in the process. "So help me God I will throw you in that cell with the cuffs still on if you don't stop" one of the police men threatened now having more than enough of her. She was body slamming the police car door the entire drive to the station whilst simultaneously cursing. "I'll take it from here" Police Officer John O'Connor stated from behind the desk. He smiled at Rosalia as the previous officer pushed her forcefully onto the desk. "BASTARDO! NON MI TOCCARE" (BASTARD! DON’T TOUCH ME)the tone in her voice was beyond any anger that had ever escaped her lips. How could they do this to me? I was robbed at gunpoint and I'm the one being arrested?' She thought angrily unsure if she was now ready to break down and cry. The arresting officer slammed her unarmed gun which was now in an evidence bag onto the desk angrily, "she w
Ricci Marino had only been promoted from Associate to Soldier for a short time. He had been part of the De Luca family since he was a baby. His parents and the parents of the De Luca brothers were always in close contact. Although Ricci enjoyed and appreciated the privilege of being an Associate of the crew for many years he eventually outgrew the ranks and proved himself loyal enough to step up to more important tasks. Tasks such as bailing the brothers out of lockup. John O'Connor let out a small sigh of frustration the moment Ricci stepped towards the desk. He knew very well why he was here and who he was here to bail out. "Always the same story with you punks". John stated practically throwing a pen at Ricci before he even had a chance to speak. "I know why you're here" he continued in an aggravated manor, "no need to even explain it. Just sign the paper work and pay the amount stated. As usual I'm sure you're paying cash tonight?" Ricci smiled, "yes Sir. Cash it is" As Ricci
The bar door was locked when they parked in front of the establishment and all the lights were out. Rosalia walked around the outside of the premises making sure everything seemed in order. "My boss must have been contacted by someone" "Well we should take you home then, doesn't look like there are any patrons to serve tonight" Giovanni stated looking around the empty street. It was quiet and eerie without the usual hustle and bustle the bar had to offer especially during the current summer months which brought everyone out and about. Clearly word had spread quickly about the gunman scaring everyone away for the time being. "I have to ask" he looked at her with a slight curious smile on his face, "why do you walk around with an empty gun?" Rosalia knew the question was coming; in fact she was surprised he hadn't asked it sooner on the drive here. "This has happened to me before" "In this same bar?" She nodded, "yes, I got scared the first time and I'm not entirely sure why but I
"What the heck happened to you last night?" Emilia raised her eyebrow at her best friend Rosalia in a suspicious manner. She had called her friend numerous times after noticing she had not come home the time she normally would after work. "I called you but I figured maybe you were on some booty call" she joked handing her a freshly made cappuccino. Emilia Serafia was Rosalia's long time bestfriend. Their families were the best of friends and even frequently enjoyed trips back to Italy together. Emilia's family would arrange accommodation in Messina, where they were from; and Rosalia's parents would arrange accommodation in Palermo. When their children were younger they would frequently enjoy summer vacations in the south of Italy. The girls went to the same schools and even coincidentally attended the same colleges where Emilia had studied Teacher Education and Professional Development and Rosalia, Business Administration & Management along with Interior Design. They were inseparabl
"You look amazing!" Emilia stood back looking at her very impressive handy work. She had spent the day shopping with Rosalia and forcing her to try on all sorts of wild party dresses just to cheer her up and get her in the mood for the night. She had also convinced her friend to surrender and pamper her with her best makeup work. She had indulged in an 8 week casual makeup course some time ago and had a few tricks up her sleeve.Rosalia was blessed with stunning big green eyes and thick long black hair. So when Emilia complemented them by sticking to natural brown eye shadows with smoky eyes along with her short and flirty black and silver sparkly strapless dress, she made Rosalia look like an absolute knockout! "Oh no I can't go out like this" "Don't be ridiculous, you're absolutely stunning! Ricky won't be able to keep his hands off you""Jesus Emilia! That's what I'm afraid of" Emilia laughed while styling her hair at the same time. "Seriously Emilia maybe we should swap dresses
The guys somehow secured a small table in the corner of the Boom Box Room which was situated directly across from the dance floor and under the VIP area on the downstairs level. When the ladies returned they were welcomed back with two long glasses of champagne. "Aww thanks David" Emilia smiled, taking the glass and pecking David on the lips thankfully. They sat in the corner on the brown pleated leather couches enjoying drinks and conversation waiting for a familiar song to really start to get loose and dance the remainder of the night away."So I hear you work in a bar?" Ricky asked, trying to get to know his date a little better. She smiled, taking another sip of the champagne and playing with the ends of her hair a little nervously. "I did. I was recently let go though, long story really but I'm sure I'll be fine, I'll be back in the workforce in no time hopefully" he nodded taking his glass of beer and raising it to cheers with her, "well here's to you and job searching on Monday
"Ah Fratello" (brother) Matteo began with a cheeky and annoying snicker which irritated Giovanni "She really got you there!" Although slightly aggravated Giovanni remained unphased on the exterior to the others. He took a long draw of his cigar and shook his head slightly drawing his attention back to his brothers. "I think she's playing hard to get""Ma dai! (Come on) Is that what you got from that fratello?" Antonio asked, now almost in full fits of laughter, "Because I'm pretty sure she called you old Gio!" He simply shrugged with a smug look on his face as if to say 'challenge accepted'."Seriously though, she's 25 you should let her be. She wouldn't be able to handle our world" "I think she's Sicilian, her last name Bernardi, she has to be from Sicily". This time Nico spoke up instantly, "you should steer away from Sicilian women, especially if you intend to piss her off. Those puttanas can get dangerous". The men burst out laughing knowing very well it was true about most Sicil

"You want more?" He left her neck and looked her in the eyes. She was a complete mess. Her hair was everywhere, face flushed, her clothes were barely sitting on her right anymore. "No stop!" She quickly spat out this time pushing him away for real. She saw his look mixed with confusion, shock and frustration. Immediately she unhooked her legs from his waist and continued to breathe deeply still sitting on the bench trying to come down from the high he had brought her too again with just a few flirtatious heated kisses. "We can't do this!" She exclaimed, sliding off the bench. "Oh I think we can" Giovanni challenged back, "in fact I think you're pretending you don't want to but your body tells me differently Rosalia". She shook her head forcing herself by him needing to get away. She walked over to the living area while he remained near the coffee machine in the kitchen. "Don't even think about kicking me out Rosalia, not until you tell me what's going on at least", he raised his voi
Matteo glanced over at his brother Giovanni who was clearly distracted. Throughout the entire meet up he was fiddling with his phone and looking frustrated. This was totally unlike him; Giovanni was always focused on work no matter what personal situations were going on at the time. Today on the other hand something was visibly bothering him. "Giovanni" Matteo called out in an attempt to bring him back to the situation at hand. "I said we found one of the guys from the card game". Giovanni nodded "ok good, so what's the plan?" "We're going to send two of our guys on the streets. We've been watching him closely and he doesn't oppose a physical threat". "Sounds good guys, I'll let papa know about this progress". €€€€€€€€€€€ When Emilia walked into her apartment after work she noticed Rosalia had immersed herself in cleaning. Everything was in order and squeaky clean, to the point where Emilia became immediately suspicious. Rosalia was a very clean person when it came to their apar
When Rosalia opened her front door for Giovanni she almost forgot to breathe at the sight of him. She stepped aside and let him in closing the door behind him. "Can I get you a drink?" He smiled noticing the coffee machine; "I'll take a coffee" she nodded walking into the kitchen, "espresso or cappuccino?""Espresso. You're looking better today" he stated eyeing her up and down from the other side of the kitchen counter. Rosalia was dressed in a grey off the shoulder sweatshirt and black short shorts. "Look" she began nervously, "I'm really sorry about last night. Thank you for looking out for me" she could not even look at him when she apologised. She was disgusted in herself and what she had let happen due to her immaturity. "I'm sure you've learnt your lesson Rosalia" she nodded handing him the espresso and sugar bowl. He placed his hand up indicating he did not take sugar. The pair took their coffees and moved to the couch for a seat. "You didn't have to do this you know" he raise
"Who the hell are you?!" Emilia jumped back towards the door after entering her apartment frantically and realising there was a man on her couch talking on his cell phone. She had tried to rush back as soon as she could after receiving a strange text from Rosalia about having to rush home after her drink was spiked. Before even waiting for his reply she bolted into the kitchen grabbing a knife from the chopping block holding it in front of her. Maybe this was the man that drugged her?"I'll call you back" Giovanni stated, keeping his eyes directly on her before ending the conversation. "You must be Emilia" he stood to his feet, eying her up and down, she could not seriously think he would let her stab him with a knife. "What did you do to her?!" She accused him, outraged. He held his hands up in defence trying to calm her down. "I'm the one who brought her home-""To fück her?" She interrupted now angrier than before. He shook his head, "Emilia, why would I still be here if I did tha
'She's nobody'. The words burned into Rosalia's mind for the remainder of the night. She had turned and walked away from him not giving him any satisfaction. 'Nobody' she thought tilting her head back and letting the warm tequila satisfy her need for alcohol at this very moment in time. 'Is that what I would be to him too? Nobody?'"Are you going to tell me your name or what sweetie?" Her thoughts were interrupted by that guy again. He had been following her around the downstairs dance floor and bar for the past hour now. Sure she had let him dance with her, but it was out of frustration. She really wanted to dance with Giovanni, not now though. Not after he decided to disrespect his own date to her. On one hand she was glad little miss blonde bimbo was a nobody, on the other all she could think about was how many 'nobodies' he had and if this casual pursuit of her was just another notch on his conquest belt."Rosalia", she finally replied putting him out of his misery as she leaned o
"When exactly do we get paid for this job?" Bill, one of the guys involved in the card game holdup, asked his friend, a little frustrated. "I mean we did all the work and still nothing, we could've just kept most of it". His friend James shook his head in disbelief before responding. "I told you it would take a while, it won't be long just be patient alright?" He was frustrated with his questions. It was bad enough struggling with the fear and guilt of the crime they had committed against one of the most notorious families in L.A. "You know if we took any of that money they would have found out and we'd be instantly killed so don't be ridiculous. We need to keep a level head. Remember this isn't just about the pay day, if we prove ourselves eventually we might become more".The thought of 'more' excited James. All he ever wanted was more. He dreamed of joining a crew and having people working under him on the streets. That dream was still far away though and realistically he knew it.
