CHAPTER 5

TAYLOR

While I sank deep into my thoughts in bewilderment, Mr Rover was busy looking me over from head to toe and with a sigh of disapproval, he stood up from his chair and waved his forefinger at me to stand up too.

I quickly did as he wanted and when he held my wrist without warning, I felt my body freeze because I never saw it coming. Mr Rover was holding me! His hand was on my wrist! And I was trying to get used to it.

“Let's get you into something better before you meet my father” he said and with that, he pulled me along with him, not bothering to let me finish my breakfast.

Fernandez led the way and opened the doors for us until we got inside the car; I got into the passenger seat while Mr Rover occupied the driver's seat and a deafening and awkward silence filled the car as he drove off until we arrived at a beauty shop.

The place screamed of luxury and sophistication when we walked in and I looked around in awe while we waited for the manager. Then I heard the sound of heels coming toward us and when I turned to look, it was a woman.

“Hello Mr Rover. So nice to see you again” a very cheerful looking woman, whom I could tell was the manager, greeted him after she approached us and I just stared at her.

“Miss Blair? Is that you?” She asked in surprise when our eyes met and Mr Rover quickly stood in between us just as I was about to introduce myself.

“Just get her something to wear, Mrs Lewis. We're meeting my father today and time is running out” he cut her off while I wondered who this Miss Blair could be and Mrs Lewis nodded in response before she pulled me away to get me dressed.

Forty minutes later, I was dressed in a pair of dark green knitted skirt and top, my hair was styled into wavy lines with a fringe and my face was subtly made up. I looked exactly how a father would want to see his son's girlfriend… perfect.

While I looked in the mirror, I couldn't stop smiling. I'd never looked so expensive before and the texture of the clothes against my skin felt so good too. I got curious to know what Mr Rover would do when he saw me.

So I walked out to meet him in the waiting room but he gave no reaction when he saw me and I couldn't explain why but I felt very disappointed. It was like I wanted to impress him and hear him compliment me but at the same time, I hated that I felt that way.

So we both left for his car and after getting in, the awkward silence returned but he didn't even seem bothered. He just drove off toward a hospital as our destination and that surprised me because I expected we would arrive at a mansion to meet his father.

“Look here, Taylor. We met at a charity event and started to date after we realized we were into each other. Okay?” he said to me while we got into an elevator and I nodded as I clasped my hands together to calm my nerves.

I couldn't believe I would have to tell a lie to his father about how we met when in truth, I was just his hostage. Someone whose legs he would sever if I tried to escape.

My heart was thundering with anxiety by the time we walked out of the elevator and I'd begun to doubt if I could pull off the act of being his girlfriend the closer we got to the ward his father was.

Then he stopped at a door and opened it and he held onto my wrist again before we both walked into the room to see an older man who looked just like him lying in the bed.

“Hey dad, how are you doing?” He greeted him while we both stood at the foot of the bed and his father smiled at him before fixing his golden eyes on me. I could tell that Mr Rover got his blue eyes from his mum.

“Who is the beautiful young lady? Why does she seem so familiar, Michael?”

His father asked and right then, the door swung open again and I looked to see another man who looked just like Mr Rover too but a bit older walking in and when our eyes locked, he stopped in his tracks and looked me over with obvious shock in his eyes.

He had the same look Mrs Lewis had from earlier when she saw me and I wondered if it was about this same Miss Blair again because it was weird that his father too said I looked familiar.

“Excuse us Taylor. I'll come for you when I'm done” Mr Rover suddenly dismissed me and I whipped my head toward him in surprise because I hadn't even introduced myself to his father yet.

“Taylor” he called my name again but this time, with a tone of warning and immediately, I rushed out of the room and closed the door behind me before taking a seat on the chair beside the room.

I couldn't stop wondering… who was this mysterious Miss Blair? Why did Mrs Lewis call me that, why did Mr Rover's father say I looked familiar and why was the other man who looked like Mr Rover shocked to see me?

Something was wrong and I was curious to know what it was.

Ten minutes later, Mr Rover stormed out of the room. Then he walked toward me and took my hand again before he pulled me away and once we got into an elevator, he looked at me.

“We're getting married today” he announced and his words pushed me into shock as I stared at him in absolute speechlessness.

Was I stuck in a dream or did he just say that we were getting married?
