CHAPTER 4
TAYLOR “Your name is Taylor Anya Fitzroy and you're an orphan. You lost your parents in an accident at fifteen and your grandpa died after you graduated from high school. You're twenty two years old, you lived in an apartment which was close to where you formerly worked as a barista at a Cafe and your boyfriend… Well, now your ex-boyfriend is Malcolm Doe.” Mr Rover listed every single information about myself while he sat before me in the mansion's living room but all I could think about was the amount of blood I just witnessed out there when he shot those bodyguards in their knees and hands. “I'm sorry. I… I can't get the blood out of my head. I've n… never seen s… so much blood before. I'm really sorry” I stammered while apologizing profusely and he leaned toward me from where he sat to have a closer look at me. “As long as you're mine, you'll have to get used to that. Understood?” he told me and I nodded in fear because I couldn't bring myself to say another word. “Fernandez, take her to her room so she can get changed” he ordered the bodyguard standing behind him when I wouldn't speak and I blinked out of my trance in surprise when I heard him say that. I'd assumed that since he bought me to satisfy his sexual fantasies, he was going to take me to his room at once. “My room? I'm getting my own room?” I asked shakily as he stood up. I quickly got up to my feet too and he eyed me from head to toe when I asked him that. “Then where did you expect to sleep?” he asked me and I quickly broke eye contact with him as I nervously swallowed. Maybe I shouldn't have said anything. “Well, uh. I was told something different before I was brought here” I said vaguely and I began to wring my hands while he walked toward me. Then he stopped a foot away and I could smell his cologne and it smelt heavenly. Like burning scented wood. “And what exactly did these women say?” he asked and I swallowed again. “They said… you… we… I mean, that you bought me to satisfy you” I stammered while I searched for the right words to use. Then I peeked up at him and I was taken aback to see him looking amused at what I just said. “You mean, they told you I bought you to fuck you. Is that so?” he asked me, without using any filter on his words and a smirk played on his lips when my eyes grew wide. I just stayed mute. “Is that so, Taylor?” He asked again while taking another step toward me and I quickly bowed my head to avoid looking into his eyes since he was so dangerously close and the electricity in his blue eyes made me feel emotions so foreign. “Y, yes” I whispered an answer and I gasped when he aggressively caught my face and made me look right into his eyes. “I bought you for an entirely different reason Taylor and soon, you will know what it is but if you want to get fucked, you will have to be the one to ask for it. Then I will decide if I want to do it or not. Alright?” He told me without batting an eye and all of a sudden, I felt his thumb against my mouth. Goosebumps graced my skin while he slowly ran it over my lips, skin to skin, and I breathed softly as my mouth parted in reaction while a war ensued in my stomach. Immediately, he pulled his hand away from my face and took a step back and I found myself strangely missing the warmth of his hand and the scent of his cologne while he gave me a look I couldn't decipher. “Fernandez will keep watch over you while you stay in this house and I'll let you know when I need you” he said dismissively and with that, he was gone. While I pondered in shock, over what just happened. ********** Three weeks passed and I didn't see Mr Rover ever since the night I was bought by him. Memories of the intimate way he touched my lips played in my head every night and at the same time, I had dreams of many ways I could make Malcolm pay for betraying me but they never brought me satisfaction. Then one morning, while I had breakfast along with Fernandez in silence, I heard footsteps coming toward the dining room and I looked up to see it was Mr Rover in the flesh. My spoon fell from my hand while I stared at him in surprise because I thought he'd forgotten I existed but there he was, staring right back at me and I couldn't help but wonder why he decided to show up. He began to walk toward me and after pulling back the chair right beside me, he sat down and turned to me and I hiccuped in reaction to his stare just as Fernandez stood up and bowed his head to him. “Good morning boss” he greeted and Mr Rover waved him off in response. “Have a seat, Fernandez” he replied and Fernandez sat down immediately. “Um, g…good morning, Mr Rover” I greeted and he shook his head. “It's Michael Rover. Just call me Michael, alright?” He told me and I gulped again because I couldn't see myself calling him so informally. Not when he scared me so much. “So today, you're going to act as my girlfriend because you're going to meet my father. Okay?” he said and I blinked so many times in disbelief when I heard him say the word ‘girlfriend’ to me. “I'm going to be your girlfriend?” I asked to be sure I heard him correctly the first time and he nodded nonchalantly like it wasn't a big deal. How could he be so carefree about something so delicate?CHAPTER 5 TAYLOR While I sank deep into my thoughts in bewilderment, Mr Rover was busy looking me over from head to toe and with a sigh of disapproval, he stood up from his chair and waved his forefinger at me to stand up too. I quickly did as he wanted and when he held my wrist without warning, I felt my body freeze because I never saw it coming. Mr Rover was holding me! His hand was on my wrist! And I was trying to get used to it. “Let's get you into something better before you meet my father” he said and with that, he pulled me along with him, not bothering to let me finish my breakfast. Fernandez led the way and opened the doors for us until we got inside the car; I got into the passenger seat while Mr Rover occupied the driver's seat and a deafening and awkward silence filled the car as he drove off until we arrived at a beauty shop. The place screamed of luxury and sophistication when we walked in and I looked around in awe while we waited for the manager. Then I heard the
CHAPTER 6TAYLOR Smoothening my hands over my wedding dress while I looked in the mirror, I couldn't bring myself to accept the fact that I was getting married. Against my will, I was marrying the man who bought me from an auction and I couldn't even run away because he promised to find me and hurt me if I did.Just weeks ago, I was living a very mundane life. All I did was go to work, make coffee for strangers, and then return home to eat a poorly made dinner before I headed to bed. Now, I was in a white dress and about to marry a man that I knew nothing about just because he said we were going to, and at that moment, I remembered Malcolm. He was never a good boyfriend to me either. I was just desperate for love because I missed my parents and grandpa. So, accepting him into my life seemed like the best at the moment. That was until I found out about his addiction. Then he promised he was going to stop, and I stupidly believed him because I thought someone like him could actually
CHAPTER 7TAYLORThe drive to the venue was a very quiet and stifling one for me because we were both seated in the same car. So I rolled the window down a bit to feel the air until the car came to a halt once we arrived at the church where we were to be wedded. Then Fernandez came forward to get the door for me and another one of Michael's guards did the same for him from the other side of the car.Once we were both out, I looked toward Michael to see he was watching me too. Then he held his hand out for me to take it and raising my dress, I walked toward him and placed my small hand in his much larger hand. With that, we took slow and precise steps toward the church and my heart started to beat so fast against my ribs that I thought I wouldn't hear anything around me from the loud crashing sound in my head but then Michael spoke to me and I looked at him.“After we take our vows…” he stopped and visibly swallowed, his Adam apple dancing up and down his throat. Then he looked down at
CHAPTER 8TAYLORWe walked out of the church hand in hand, but immediately we were a distance away from the church building, Michael abruptly let go of my hand and the gesture felt so cold and dismissive.Fernandez rushed up to him at that moment and whispered something in his ear and immediately he took a step back, Michael pulled him aside to talk to him so I was left to stand alone and it was awkward.I remained in the same spot while I watched him converse with his bodyguard and the longer I watched him, the more it felt like the kiss we shared was nothing but a dream. I didn't want to believe that I just felt his lips upon mine just seconds ago.So I made myself think… that it wasn't real. It was just an act because Michael Rover didn't find me to be attractive one bit. He had never even looked my way for longer than a few minutes and I couldn't count on one hand how many times I'd seen him in person since he bought me. So the kiss was nothing to him… and I had to think nothing o
CHAPTER 9TAYLORThe hitting didn't stop. Instead, I was forced to sit side by side with Michael and watch Fernandez hit Mr Thomas on and on until he was nothing but a weak and bloodied mess on the floor.I suddenly felt the urge to vomit while I helplessly watched. Then Fernandez finally stopped hitting him and turned to Michael while he straightened his jacket with a look of satisfaction on his face. But I was quick to push the urge to vomit back and when I looked at Michael, I realized he had been watching me closely.“I told you that you'd have to get used to this life now. So don't look so pale, Taylor. This is just the beginning” he said softly and I blinked while staring at him in disbelief.“You could have taken him to the police. Why do you have to take it this far?” I asked while my body shook with vigor because to say I was traumatized would be an understatement.Mr Thomas's cries of plea and the sound of his bones breaking as he got beaten kept ringing in my head and Mich
CHAPTER 10TAYLORAfter managing to find a bathroom, I rinsed my mouth and face there. Then I took some minutes to collect myself together before I made my way back to the room where Michael and Fernandez were and upon opening the door, I noticed that both Mr Thomas and Fernandez weren't there anymore.I froze by the doorway as many thoughts began to run through my head. I was scared that they may have done something horrible to him and I slowly turned my head toward Michael only to see him furiously typing away on his phone with a scowl etched deeply onto his face. Then he returned the phone into his pocket, pinched the bridge of his nose like he was stressed about something and as if he knew I was watching, he turned toward my direction too and a chill ran through my body when our eyes met. “Do you feel better now, Taylor?” He asked after eyeing me from head to toe and I nodded without uttering a response because I still didn't want to talk to him and he too, looked away once I con
CHAPTER 11TAYLORWith the blanket in hand, I got off the couch and walked over to the kitchen to see what Fernandez was up to and I stood by the doorway to watch him set up dinner on the kitchen island.Once he was done, I cautiously walked into the kitchen and made my way to the island. Watching him closely as I gently pulled a chair back to sit, he stopped arranging and looked at me and I paused too.We held eye contact without saying a word but then he looked away and went on with what he was doing like I wasn't there and I blinked in surprise before deciding to ignore him too.So I sat down, pulled my food closer to myself and picked up the cutlery before I took the first spoon. Immediately it hit my buds, my eyes widened in surprise at how good it was.It wasn't my first time eating what he'd cooked but I had to admit to myself that his dish this time was exceptional. I immediately became curious about how he was such a good cook and even though we hardly spoke to each other, I
CHAPTER 12TAYLOR I didn't see Michael for another two weeks. He never showed up, never sent any messages to me via Fernandez either, and after the last conversation I and Fernandez had, the mood between us had turned icy.Ever since I asked him that question about the mysterious Blair, he defaulted and returned to the way he was when I was newly brought to this mansion. The friendly aura around him disappeared, and in place of it, he carried himself with an icy air, which scared the life out of me.He started to act like I was non-existent in the house even though it was just the two of us and it was only when he left to get a job assigned to him done that I could finally relax and feel less pressured by his presence. Then, the boredom began to set in. I got sick and tired of staying in a particular place and didn't care if the house was a mansion. It didn't matter if there were many rooms, a pool, gamerooms, and even a garden in the mansion. All I wanted was a change of environmen
CHAPTER 21MICHAEL I hated how I felt. I couldn't explain it but these uncontrollable emotions kept gathering up in my chest ever since the night that I took Taylor to meet the family. While a part of me believed that she had to be kept in place and not act out of hand as time went by, another part of me thought that I was too harsh toward her that night.I was the one who made her follow me to meet them and it wasn't her fault that it turned out to be a disaster. In fact, I believed she was the one who suffered the most damages because not only did dad almost kill her with a fucking chandelier, Blair also had the audacity to embarrass her like that.So I kept on thinking… that when she had a meltdown back at the mansion and yelled at me for not defending her, maybe I shouldn't have said anything. Maybe I shouldn't have added to her wounds by yelling in her face. Maybe it would have been better if I'd just walked away. Now she wasn't speaking to me. She wasn't even looking my way li
CHAPTER 20 TAYLOR I couldn't speak. I also couldn't move an inch or fight back because what if Michael ended up scolding me for retaliating back at Blair? I wanted to hit her so bad though. I wanted to make her pay for getting me all wet with juice but what if she also had a gun too? I couldn't take the risk and end up bearing the consequences so motionless, I just stood and stared at her since I had no idea what to even do and she just enjoyed the view. “This should teach you not to speak to me the way you like” Blair taunted while she held the empty glass in hand and right then, I started to hear footsteps from behind me. So I looked back and after seeing that it was Michael, a sense of relief took over me because I believed that he would defend me and scold Blair for what she did to me. I waited on the same spot for him to get close and once he did, he looked me over in silence. Then he turned to Blair with a gaze that was quite hard to explain but at the same time,
CHAPTER 19 TAYLOR “Hello, dad” Michael began the pleasantries with his father while I and this Miss Blair just stared at each other. Then he turned to the other man I saw back at the hospital weeks ago and his face looked even more stern as they both looked at each other too. “Hello, Carlos” he greeted, his voice cold and aloof and Carlos smirked just as I finally broke eye contact with Blair and looked at him. “Hello, little brother. You look very happy to see me” he said tauntingly and sarcastically and I looked at Michael. He had the usual blank look on his face while they did a stare off contest even though their father was right there and I knew I had to do something. It was my first night with the family so I couldn't let it start out like that. It could probably spoil their minds toward me and I didn't want that. So I decided to break off the tension in the air. “Hello, family. I'm Taylor Fitzroy. Nice to meet you all” I said out loud with the most cheerful voice that I
CHAPTER 18TAYLOR “Congratulations, Mr Rover. I never knew you got married” Mrs Lewis decided to walk in on us at that moment and I was quick to take a step back from Michael even though on the inside, I missed the touch of his fingers against my face.“Thank you, Mrs Lewis. It was a private wedding” he replied and she nodded her head once she heard him say the word, ‘private’. I knew she had already figured out why no one knew about us getting married.“We'll be taking our leave now. My bodyguard, Fernandez, would take care of the bills for me” he told her while I stood beside him in silence and without warning, he grabbed my hand and together, we walked out of the store. He led us over to the car he brought and for the first time, opened the door for me. I looked at him while wondering why he was acting so differently and he gestured toward the passenger seat when he looked back at me.“Aren't you getting in?” He asked me and I shook my head before getting into the car and he shut
CHAPTER 17TAYLORWhen Michael said he was going to work on the fear I felt around him, I should have known it was going to involve me doing things with him. I should have known he was going to make it difficult for me too since he was a very difficult person. It started from the first night he spent in the house with me. Immediately I stepped into the kitchen, clad in my night dress with a hurting knee that caused me to limp, he handed me an apron and a knife and at first, I was too surprised to utter a word.“Fernandez did everything on his own without asking you to help because I ordered him to do so but he isn't here today and if I'm making dinner, you're going to help” he said while I stared at him in surprise and my mouth fell open upon hearing him say that.“You don't know how to cook, Taylor?” He asked when I wouldn't move yet and I shook my head.“I… I can cook. I cook a lot” I answered after recovering from my shock and he gestured toward the carrots waiting for me on a cho
CHAPTER 16TAYLOR“I'm sorry I messed your shirt up. I didn't mean to” I apologized while wringing my hands again and to my surprise, all he did was shake his head as he returned everything he used back into the first aid box. Then he locked it shut and looked up at me.“You don't have to be sorry, Taylor, it's fine” he replied calmly and my eyes widened.“Really? you're not mad at me?” I asked in surprise and he shook his head.“Why? should I be?” he asked me and I looked away for a moment.“What did I say about eye contact?” he asked and I quickly looked back at him.“I'm sorry” I said and he tilted his head to the side as that studious look in his eyes returned and it became hard for me to keep eye contact with him but I had to… even though he made me feel like he could see through me.“Why are you always apologizing?” he asked and I sighed while rolling my eyes. Did he always have to ask me such difficult questions?“Yes, Taylor? I'm going to always ask them. So give me an answ
CHAPTER 15TAYLORImmediately the car came to a stop in front of the mansion, I pushed the door open and rushed out to get some of the fresh air into my lungs and I struggled to calm my racing heart while I relived through every scary moment that I spent back at the cemetery. The bodyguard who drove us back got out of the car just as Michael got out too and all I heard was Michael dismissing him so he left and it was me, him and Fernandez left. The thought of knowing my life was now in danger because of the same man who bought me against my own will made me sick to my stomach and acknowledging the fact that he killed those assassins made me even sicker. I couldn't breathe. Neither could I even vomit it out so it suffocated me and my face got hotter while I ran my hand over my neck. While I knelt on the ground and struggled to get a grip, a pair of glistening shoes stood before me and while I still gasped for air, I raised my head to see who it was and I saw Michael staring down at
CHAPTER 14TAYLOR Minutes passed since the shooting began and it still hadn't stopped. My fear was starting to eat too deeply into me and it made me wonder if I was going to leave there alive. While I had thoughts of regret, a bullet suddenly hit the car and I screamed in horror as I stared wide eyed at Michael who was outside and had his back facing toward me.I watched him grab another gun from beneath his jacket before he began to shoot even faster than he did before in different directions and less than a minutes later, the whole place went silent and I wondered what had happened. The door to the car’s backseat pulled open at that moment and I flinched in fear before realizing it was Michael and I sighed in relief upon seeing he was okay. So I scooted over to the other side as he came inside and sat beside me and a dreadful silence filled the car for a moment.I opened my mouth to ask him what just happened out there since my curiosity couldn't help it anymore but then he snapped
CHAPTER 13MICHAEL “Repeat what you said, Fernandez. Taylor left the house alone?” I asked my bodyguard in disbelief over the phone and I heard him sigh loudly. “Yes, boss. I returned from my assignment only to see that she and the car I left behind were both gone” he replied and I quickly inhaled sharply to control the anger that took over me. I was fighting the urge to slam my fist against the table before me.I warned her. I warned her not to make the mistake of thinking she could escape me and not only did she run away, she did so along with my car. I was going to find her and when I did, I was going to make her regret what she'd done.“I can find her though, boss. I'll track the car to figure out her whereabouts because I know she can't be that far yet” Fernandez said and a little of my rage dissolved when he offered a solution.“Then do that immediately and get back to me once she's been found. Do not take too long because I don't have the patience” I ordered and I could visua
