Evelyn

I've always thought the worst that could happen to anyone of our kind was losing their soul, but I was deadass wrong.

No, it wasn't death. It wasn't even losing their soul, not even close.

It was facing the fury of a werewolf Alpha. I wasn't talking about the glares and the scowls anymore. I was talking about his deep blue eyes probing every cells in my body, I was talking about the hard lines of his jaws, of the way his sneer reached out and smashed my heart into smithereens.

Now, I don't know what this is all about. Except for him getting the short end of the stick. Okay, if the fast words and snarls he'd spoken to his subordinate was any indication, he was pretty pissed.

It was an hour after we'd finished officiating our wedding, in which my mother had given me a book as my wedding present. Which my father had given me a credit card and Agatha has my wedding gift.

My husband looked pretty amused by the latter gift, he smiled in that way that seems mocking and amused at the same time.

And now we were supposed to be on our way to my new house. That thought was so daunting on its own that I've avoided thinking about it all together.

But one of the SUV, the one im currently hyperventilating in, stopped working abruptly. My new husband and his men have been converging in low tones since.

I knew it was irrational. This frustration bubbling inside of me. It was useless.

I was useless. I had willingly agreed to pay the price of keeping my race and stopping bloodshed. So why do I feel like I've traded something monumental for a piece of colored pebble?

I wish Agatha was here in the car with me. I wish I could see her feathered face, her gentle coaxing smile. Something familiar. Something constant.

In this rocking sea where I was thrown, I need something to keep my footing right.

It didn't occur to me to keep my panic episodes down a notch_afterall I was considered a bother, no need to add salt to injury_i hadn't noticed the silence that now reigned inside the dark interior of the car.

“Princess?” His dark smooth voice called.

I startled and jerked my chin to face him. I shagged in air into my lungs as my gaze collided with him. How was it even possible?

That such a creature_a monster_could posses so beguiling eyes. He stared at me now, the hard angles of his planes blurred a bit with what looked like concern.

I realized he was watching me, like a predator that he was, waiting for my answers.

I filled my lungs with air once again, “yes?”

“Are you alright?” He inquired, peering into my eyes.

His question knocked the breath out of my lungs.

Not that he had to try really hard. I can't seem to breathe properly whenever he's around.

“Yeah. I'm fine. I'm alright,” I babbled on.

He raised one long and coarse finger to lift my chin and I was surprised by my body reaction to his.

It was like I was being electrocuted but in the best possible way. His touch sent zings and tingles of electricity running down my spine.

He seems to be affected, he looked disgruntled and snatched his finger away as if being scorched.

As if he felt what I did too.

But something else happened too. For a minute, time slowed and I saw flashes of color beneath my eyelids. Images, glitching.

A huge animal, accidents and what looked like lots of shouting.

I yelped and snapped my eyes open. I didn't even realize I had been closing them.

“Damnit princess! Are you alright?” He was crouching to face me now.

He offered me his handkerchief, only thdn did I realize I was sweating. I brought the handkerchief to my face, smelling his cologne.

It smelled free. Like first ray of sun hitting the dew on the grasses.

Sorry, that was inappropriate.

He smelled woodsy.

I took another much needed breath and let the words out before I can think better of it.

“I..I saw something.” I whispered.

He was standing so close now. So close I could see the golden flecks inside his irises.

“Use more than three words princess,” he raised his brows.

He probably meant to be teasing but I shied back away from him.

“This has never happened to me before. I've always had sixth sense. A sense of premonition of sorts. But I've never actually had a vision of what would happen!” I was perfectly animated now.

Oh my god. This means I couldn't be useless anymore. Does that mean my talents are developing?

“Hmm,” he looked thoughtfully at me. “Care to tell me what you saw?”

I swallowed, trying not to stare into his liquid eyes.

“I saw some sort of big animal. A wolf probably?”

He chuckled and I started. It wasn't exactly menacing, but it had a dark edge to it.

“Accident! I saw blood,” it made me queasy now, thinking about it. “And some other stuff I couldn't make out exactly.”

I was once again rendered breathless from the intensity of his piercing eyes. All traces of concern have disappeared and his mouth was twisted into a flat now.

He was radiating such hostility in waves I wanted to take a step back. Not much steps to be wheeled inside this SUV.

He was so big. The car seem to shrink around him.

“Are you sure?” He questioned.

I nodded, unable to talk.

“The car is ready Alpha.” One of the men entered the car and announced.

I stared at the window, where the sun had sunken low in the horizon.

“Change of plans Micheal. We're not heading home tonight.” Israel told the man.

“We're not?” Micheal questioned with doubt.

“No. A little bird told me it's too dangerous tonight. We'll some sort of hotel to stay.”

And then he did the most unexpected thing. He smiled.

It was the mo

st feral thing ever. This smile of his.

I could feel my heart jumping a beat in my chest. I hope it's because of the fear.

Israel It had been so hard, trying to control this growing need inside me. My fingers ache to touch her. To breathe her in, to stare into her expressive eyes and ask her what's going on inside her head. To probe her wall and examine the reasons behind them. It was perverted, the way I enjoy the few flashes of fire that speared me when she managed to be angry at me.So damn hard. I wasn't that kind of man, I was sure. I wasn't the one to sit on the edge of the king sized bed watching my wife murmur incoherent words in her sleep. Listening to her soft snores. I clenched my fist and took a deep breath. After wheeling her into the room, I had left quickly before I could do something foolish. Like touch her face and wipe the exhaustion from beneath her eyelids. Or kiss that soft mouth that I was sure was sharp as a sabre. She just doesn't know it yet. I stood up swiftly when a surprise message popped into my mind through the mindlink. Thank fuck I didn't close off the link. [Alpha!

Evelyn I was suddenly carried out of the car by Israel, and cold air whipped at my face. I took a minute to admire the mansion with a waterfall. EvelynTwo things happened at once. A deafening silence descended and I started hyperventilating. My father only smiled tightly and motioned for my mother to bring me out. It was funny and ridiculous, considering I was in the same room as them.“Breathe princess. You'll be fine.” My mother leaned down and whispered into my ears. Those were the most useless piece of advice that could be given to anyone on the verge of panic attack like I was. It was like my lungs had totally forgotten how to go about breathing and my heart stopped for a full minute before picking up at a double rate. His scrutiny was worse. Much more worse than his passing glare. He unleashed the full intensity of those blue eyes on me. He stared at me like I was something funny. His mouth kicked up by the side, smiling a little at his own amusement. Heat of embarrassment climbed up my neck and I flushed an ugly shade of scarlet. I heard a few people snickering from his side. His eyes roamed over my face, I wonde
