One Hundred and Twenty-Two

Elen paced back and forth in his office, his phone clutched in his hand. He had been trying to reach his sister for hours, but she refused to pick up.

Maya was experiencing double heartbreak, and because she was a stubborn and impulsive person, it was extremely difficult to control the situation. But he knew she listened to him, and since he wasn't actively involved in the deception, maybe she would at least try to hear him out.

He dialed her number again, walking over to the window and staring out at the brightening sky. He was very worried about his sister and feared this could affect her mentally. He imagined her holed up in her room and refusing to talk to anyone.

Memories of them as children filled his head; he couldn't remember much about Maya being a baby, as he was barely six years old at the time, but one thing was for sure - he must have been happy to have a sibling and bragged to his friends about it.
