One Hundred and Twenty-One

A gasp escaped Ashanti's lips as her daughter Maya slammed the door, the noise echoing through the mansion's hallway. The house had fallen silent after that initial outburst, and Ashanti was sure that the maids had heard their little exchange outside

Despite the coolness of the air, Ashanti broke into a cold sweat that tickled down her nape. She knew her daughter and knew that this was bad. So bad that if she doesn't do anything about it, there could be a brewing havoc.

Her hand grasped her husband's tightly and her heartbeat raced like a clock. "Oh no, no, no, Chad! What do we do? She's so upset now that she knows the truth," Ashanti cried out frantically, gripping Chad's arm so hard he couldn't escape.

The man winced but didn't say anything. He only sighed at his wife's outburst and turned back toward where Maya disappeared. His eyes were filled with sadness but he tried to calm Ashanti down.

"Darling, don't you think you're overreacting? What's the worst that could happen?"
