For over seventy-two hours, Chadwick had been in a coma. Icy fear twisted around my heart and I tried to keep my fragile control. I was worried for my lover

The healing center was a mix of traditional and modern medicine with more advanced medical technologies. The monitors attached to Chadwick's heart beat steadily at all hours. A nurse came into the room every few minutes and checked his vital signs.

Even as I struggled to stay positive, I could feel the worry eating at me until I felt as if there were no bones left in my body. The feeling of panic clawed at every inch of me, and it intensified at night when the fear would creep up on me in my sleep.

Chadwick lay pale and unconscious against the white sheets, a shadow of his usual self. His breathing was shallow and he showed no signs of regaining consciousness. Despite his unconscious state, I was relieved that he was still alive.
