Seventy THREE

Vincent POV

I lean by the wall and I just watch how Rebecca keeps tranting. I could see the anger and hurt burning in her eyes, but I didn't back down. I knew I had to face the consequences of my actions, and I was ready.

"Rebecca, I know you're upset," I said, my voice firm but calm. "But I'm not going to apologize for being true to myself. I'm not going to apologize for taking control of my life."

Rebecca's eyes flashed with anger. "You're a monster, Vincent," she spat. "You're a heartless, selfish monster."

I shrugged, unapologetic. "Maybe I am," I said. "But at least I'm being honest about who I am. At least I'm not pretending to be something I'm not."

Rebecca's face twisted in rage, and for a moment, I thought she would launch herself at me. But then, something seemed to break inside her. She turned, and ran, leaving me standing alone in the doorway.
