Ruth's POV

I gazed lovingly at my daughter, Rachel, cradled in my arms. Seven months of pregnancy had flown by, and now, as I held my little miracle, I felt an overwhelming sense of love and responsibility.

Michael, my mate, sat beside me, his eyes shining with adoration as he stroked Rachel's tiny hand. "You're an amazing mother, Ruth. Our daughter is lucky to have you."

Tears pricked at the corners of my eyes. I vowed to create a better future for Rachel, one free from the pain and abandonment I'd faced. My thoughts drifted to my own childhood, and the complicated relationships with my parents.

Dad's words, spoken on my wedding day, echoed in my mind: "If you hurt my daughter, I'll tie you to a tree and cut your balls." His gruff demeanor hid a deep love, but the past still lingered.

Forgiveness was a journey, not a destination. I'd begun to understand, but the scars remained.
