Overwhelming Darkness

Violet POV

“You will not do any such thing,” Ilene pleaded even as she was lifted by the warriors. “Da—Dane,” she said, breathless. “Ple—please Dane, don’t do anything to George.”

Dane looked at his mother, trying his best to stop the swirl of emotions in his chest. “You never liked my father. Your hatred for him carried on to Dave. You loathed the fact that I got married to Violet only because you didn’t want Chris Llyod’s smell on your pups. It is not difficult to comprehend that you hated my father’s scent on me as well, because it reminded you of your sacrifice.” A burning hole formed in his chest, causing him to struggle for breath. His voice dropped. Swallowing the lump in his throat, he said, “What did I do, mother? Why did you hate me?”

“I— I never hated you, Dane,” she replied. “If I hated you, I wouldn’t have helped you to become the most powerful alpha of the werewolves!”

He scoffed. “You did that for your selfish reasons.” Taking a deep breath in, he ordered his warriors.
