Welcome To Greenville Life

I arched my brows. It was quite surprising, of course I knew what lobbying was because I was very well educated but I was not sure I knew what a 'lobby' person was supposed to be like.

He must have noticed that I was in confusion so he took it upon himself to explain better. "Now, it's no easy task, to be very honest. You get to meet a lot of people, not just ordinary people now, Influential people, politicians, top country officials from different parts of the world, foreign investors, foreign ambassadors and if you are unlucky, you could get to meet with the Mafias." He explained.

"Meet them and do what exactly?" I furrowed my brows and he laughed softly.

"It depends on the situation. In a case where our country and another would be having a peace treaty, you would be expected to take good care of the guests, and make sure nothing goes wrong till the mission is accomplished. That's an instance."

I was not sure if this was what I signed up for, actually. Being a lobby agent? I had not even done it for even the council of elders at my father's pack. That was more or less sucking up someone's ass and I really hated that.

"I picked you the moment I saw you because you seemed perfect for the job. You have a very nice and alluring face. Mind you, you won't be working alone, you will be fixed in a team, your performances will be checked for a while and if you do well, promotion knocks on your door."

"How much is the pay?" I asked, being straightforward and ignoring his explanations.

He smiled. "Is that desperation I see?" He squinted his eyes like one that was curious as he leaned in closer to me.

I did not move, rather I kept my eyes fixated on him, shooting him glares. He cleared his throat and relaxed back in his chair.

"The paycheck is quite huge, you get to stay in an official apartment and you get transported to work everyday by an official van alongside other team members." He replied.

Alluring, it was. But for the benefits to be this huge, it had to be one tedious job. Who cared? It was not like I had any other thing done by the way.

"I'm in." I responded to him after seeing how the need I was to make my own money.

"Really? That's beautiful then, I knew you were going to give in. But may I inform you that your apartment will be under strict surveillance by some securities. That's just the rule, to ensure accountability and loyalty."

That did not sit so well with me but did I have any choice? No, I did not.

Immediately, he put a call through to someone he referred to as Karima and gave her a few instructions. After he ended the call, he turned to me.

"She is on her way here to get you. She will be your guide throughout your 3-day training, she is your team leader too."

I nodded then he stood up. "On that note, how about we two...you know....become an item?"

I was familiar with this game. He literally just switched from his professional part to the playboy he seemed to be.

"No, thank you." I retorted and looked away.

He laughed. "I was just teasing. Dating is against the rules, as a lobby agent at Greenville. Inside information mostly gets leaked through those petty relationships with non-lobby agents."

"I don't mind that." I commented and then he crinkled his brows.

"You sound like one that has suffered a heartbreak."

Was it really necessary for him to point that out?

"You can keep your guesses to yourself." I replied, not even making any efforts not to be rude. I just spoke the way I wanted to and it seemed like he was cool with it.

He laughed softly again and then, I was lead to another part of the office. He came with a cup of tea. "I am sorry, I just realized I did not offer my guest a cup of tea. My bad."

"I am fine, thank you." I said to him. Who knew if he had spiked the tea? I did not want to take chances, not even with someone like that. Jokingly or not, he had started to make his intentions towards me known.

"Why? You don't trust me? Nah...I don't drug women, I would rather let her walk to me with her own legs, offering herself." He defended himself, making his type of woman known to me indirectly. Who cared?

I did not give him a response and he sighed. "You look tough, and that gives me chills. Really, working with you will be very interesting!" He exclaimed as he picked the cup of tea and drank it.

Tough my ass. Who? Me? Jokes on him.

"Have you had dinner?" Travis asked again. I wondered why he was so talkative when it was very clear that I was not so interested in talking to him.

I was about to tell him yes then my stomach grumbled, not loudly though. I have been eating cereal for the last forty eight hours and have not had any good meal.

Right from when I got imprisoned, I had not even been feeding well. I shook my head gently, trying to maintain my bony face then he laughed at me, jesting me.

"Come with me." He instructed and then I walked with him, we took the elevator down to the floor right below the fifth floor.

Getting out of the ride, I saw that the floor was very neat and clear, with no one around. There was no sound. And the sound from other floors could not be heard, maybe they had every floor soundproofed.

As we walked around that floor, I saw different names on the indicators on each door we passed, and then through the transparent glass walls, I saw neatly and stylishly arranged restaurant chairs with tables.

It was different in each room but they were all very spacious, and they had counters like serving counters there.

"Where is this?" I did not hesitate to ask Travis.

"A restaurant floor. No one knows about this because it's yet to be launched. Each restaurant room is different, like their names imply on the indicator. We have Chinese, Korean, Italian, Western and some other cuisines." He explained. Then it made sense to me. I was awed by the way, what a great business idea.

A bar and club on the ground, first and second floors, I had no idea what was on the third floor but diverse cuisine restaurants on the forth floor was a big YES for me.

We eventually stopped at one of the restaurants and then some people came in immediately after us.

"They were the two chefs in charge here for now." He introduced them to me and I nodded at the two guys.

"How well have you been trying out new recipes?" He asked them.

"Very well, sir. It's going smoothly." One of them replied.

"Good. Prepare a plate of steak for us both as the main course meal, big sizes and then plates of vegetable salad. In the meantime, you know what to do."

They both smiled. "Yes sir. You will be served appetizers very soon." The other guy said and they both left.

Travis turned to me. "Welcome to Greenville life, Mira."
