I arched my brows. It was quite surprising, of course I knew what lobbying was because I was very well educated but I was not sure I knew what a 'lobby' person was supposed to be like.
He must have noticed that I was in confusion so he took it upon himself to explain better. "Now, it's no easy task, to be very honest. You get to meet a lot of people, not just ordinary people now, Influential people, politicians, top country officials from different parts of the world, foreign investors, foreign ambassadors and if you are unlucky, you could get to meet with the Mafias." He explained.
"Meet them and do what exactly?" I furrowed my brows and he laughed softly.
"It depends on the situation. In a case where our country and another would be having a peace treaty, you would be expected to take good care of the guests, and make sure nothing goes wrong till the mission is accomplished. That's an instance."I was not sure if this was what I signed up for, actually. Being a lobby agent? I had not even done it for even the council of elders at my father's pack. That was more or less sucking up someone's ass and I really hated that.
"I picked you the moment I saw you because you seemed perfect for the job. You have a very nice and alluring face. Mind you, you won't be working alone, you will be fixed in a team, your performances will be checked for a while and if you do well, promotion knocks on your door."
"How much is the pay?" I asked, being straightforward and ignoring his explanations.
He smiled. "Is that desperation I see?" He squinted his eyes like one that was curious as he leaned in closer to me.I did not move, rather I kept my eyes fixated on him, shooting him glares. He cleared his throat and relaxed back in his chair.
"The paycheck is quite huge, you get to stay in an official apartment and you get transported to work everyday by an official van alongside other team members." He replied.Alluring, it was. But for the benefits to be this huge, it had to be one tedious job. Who cared? It was not like I had any other thing done by the way.
"I'm in." I responded to him after seeing how the need I was to make my own money."Really? That's beautiful then, I knew you were going to give in. But may I inform you that your apartment will be under strict surveillance by some securities. That's just the rule, to ensure accountability and loyalty."
That did not sit so well with me but did I have any choice? No, I did not.
Immediately, he put a call through to someone he referred to as Karima and gave her a few instructions. After he ended the call, he turned to me."She is on her way here to get you. She will be your guide throughout your 3-day training, she is your team leader too."
I nodded then he stood up. "On that note, how about we two...you know....become an item?"
I was familiar with this game. He literally just switched from his professional part to the playboy he seemed to be. "No, thank you." I retorted and looked away.He laughed. "I was just teasing. Dating is against the rules, as a lobby agent at Greenville. Inside information mostly gets leaked through those petty relationships with non-lobby agents."
"I don't mind that." I commented and then he crinkled his brows.
"You sound like one that has suffered a heartbreak." Was it really necessary for him to point that out? "You can keep your guesses to yourself." I replied, not even making any efforts not to be rude. I just spoke the way I wanted to and it seemed like he was cool with it.He laughed softly again and then, I was lead to another part of the office. He came with a cup of tea. "I am sorry, I just realized I did not offer my guest a cup of tea. My bad."
"I am fine, thank you." I said to him. Who knew if he had spiked the tea? I did not want to take chances, not even with someone like that. Jokingly or not, he had started to make his intentions towards me known.
"Why? You don't trust me? Nah...I don't drug women, I would rather let her walk to me with her own legs, offering herself." He defended himself, making his type of woman known to me indirectly. Who cared?
I did not give him a response and he sighed. "You look tough, and that gives me chills. Really, working with you will be very interesting!" He exclaimed as he picked the cup of tea and drank it.
Tough my ass. Who? Me? Jokes on him.
"Have you had dinner?" Travis asked again. I wondered why he was so talkative when it was very clear that I was not so interested in talking to him.
I was about to tell him yes then my stomach grumbled, not loudly though. I have been eating cereal for the last forty eight hours and have not had any good meal.
Right from when I got imprisoned, I had not even been feeding well. I shook my head gently, trying to maintain my bony face then he laughed at me, jesting me.
"Come with me." He instructed and then I walked with him, we took the elevator down to the floor right below the fifth floor.
Getting out of the ride, I saw that the floor was very neat and clear, with no one around. There was no sound. And the sound from other floors could not be heard, maybe they had every floor soundproofed. As we walked around that floor, I saw different names on the indicators on each door we passed, and then through the transparent glass walls, I saw neatly and stylishly arranged restaurant chairs with tables.
It was different in each room but they were all very spacious, and they had counters like serving counters there.
"Where is this?" I did not hesitate to ask Travis. "A restaurant floor. No one knows about this because it's yet to be launched. Each restaurant room is different, like their names imply on the indicator. We have Chinese, Korean, Italian, Western and some other cuisines." He explained. Then it made sense to me. I was awed by the way, what a great business idea.A bar and club on the ground, first and second floors, I had no idea what was on the third floor but diverse cuisine restaurants on the forth floor was a big YES for me.
We eventually stopped at one of the restaurants and then some people came in immediately after us.
"They were the two chefs in charge here for now." He introduced them to me and I nodded at the two guys."How well have you been trying out new recipes?" He asked them.
"Very well, sir. It's going smoothly." One of them replied. "Good. Prepare a plate of steak for us both as the main course meal, big sizes and then plates of vegetable salad. In the meantime, you know what to do."They both smiled. "Yes sir. You will be served appetizers very soon." The other guy said and they both left.
Travis turned to me. "Welcome to Greenville life, Mira."I had dinner with Travis that evening, stuffing my mouth like I had never eaten before in my entire life. I was really famished, like in a miserable way. Right after we were done eating, the lady he had called earlier, Karima, arrived to take me.She bowed at ninety degrees to Travis Coles. "I am sorry for being late sir, I could not get past the traffic." She apologized so politely and he just nodded."It's fine. This is Mira Silver." He introduced me to her. "She will be joining your team, as a lobby agent. She is an amateur, so you are to guide her through the three-day training." I could not help but frown when he called me an amateur, was that really necessary?I exchanged polite greetings with Karima without smiling. Working with humans was something I perceived to be as tough, being a werewolf even though as an omega who had not received her wolf.Sure, there were many werewolves who tended to cover their true identities and just live like humans. I had not tried staying amon
The moening soon came and I had to rush my bathing process because it was almost 6 AM and Karima would definitely be here at any time. I had not gone into the bathroom the previous night but entering it that morning to take my bath, I realized everything needed for a bath was available. There was a new toothbrush, sponge, face wash, mouth wash, body wash, towel and some other stuff. I stepped into the hot shower and washed away all my sufferings. I remembered bathing with freezing cold water the day before and I smirked, while under the hot shower.I don't know but it felt like a new beginning for me. I had anger stocked up in me but I would wait for the right time to unleash. I was not just angry at the Seventh heritage pack, but then I was furious at myself. The thought of wasting three good years of my life with someone that never adored or cherished me, going against my father's words and turning against his pack because I wanted to chase love.I thought Adrien had loved me for wh
"You are welcome to the team." Leo said to me as we stepped into the elegant elevator. "Thank you." I replied gently. "We are heading to the fortieth floor now, the training will be held there. But our main office is on the forty-two floor." He explained and I nodded, trying to be as polite as I could. We got to the fortieth floor and stepped out of the ride, then I saw some other people littering around. The ladies were in the same uniform as me and the guys too wore uniforms in the same colour shade. They all were in twos and it seemed like they were waiting for the training to start."Attention everyone!" I was surprised when Leo stepped forward to do that. We got their attention and then placed his hands against the other to his back, maintaining a stoic and professional stance. He acted quite differently from the person I had met earlier in the elevator."Good morning, ladies and gents. I am Leo, one of your instructors for today's training. The training starts in seven minutes,
Leo led me to Karima's office and left after he had a short talk with her. Her office was not something I had imagined; It was quite moderate but properly furnished and fit for her profession and rank. She had me sit and then started engaging me. "How was the training today?""It went quite well, Ms. Karima." I replied to her and she smiled. "Call me, Karima, everyone does. By the way, most people complained so much about the lengthy lecture hours so I expected that from you too."I clasped my hands together behind my back and sucked in my lips, not sure of how to reply to her. Then she smiled, as if she understood my plight. "It's alright by the way. I told Leo to bring you so you could have lunch here before you return to your apartment. I was wondering if you would not mind a brief tour in the resort too." A tour? A high ranking lobby agent like her was offering me a tour? I could not help but question her niceness within me, she definitely had other things to do, but she wanted
Training day two was soon here and like they said, it was not easy. It was more of a field training than a sit-listen lecture. We were firstly instructed to change into a fit gym wear instead of our uniforms, then we all hand weight scale. Most people were over the average and it took this new set of instructors nothing to make them lose proper weight within a few hours. Leo was one of them too and he had me specifically weighed by him. It turned out to be that I was about 3kg close to average. He raised his hand with his arms folded against his chest, looking confused."You don't eat beef? Chicken?" He raised his brows. For someone who spent over four months in prison, eating just vegetables, beans and water, how else could I have grown past the average weight?I only smiled gently at his question, I did not think I was meant to answer that. While others exercised under the hot sun, I remained sitting, drinking water from a Stanley cup. At some point, I was instructed to join th
For a while there, I thought I was dreaming, but I was not. How possible could it be? I clearly saw the man in the pool filled with bloody earlier so why was it looking like nothing had happened there?I had never been so confused in my entire life. Really?Karima turned around swiftly to face me and immediately, I started panicking. "I swear Karima, I am sure of what I saw." "Where is it now..Mira?" She asked but I had no reply to give her, no reasonable response."I am just as surprised. There was a man...here... literally...floating at the centre of this pool right here." I tried explaining even though I sounded crazy to myself, how would I convince her when I was also too confusion myself? She sighed and then brought out her phone. "Leo, don't bother. There's nothing." I heard her say then she dropped the call. I felt so bad that she probably felt I had alarmed them falsely."I am not lying, please. I am sure of what I saw." I persisted and then she released a soft, slight smile
Karima engaged me throughout the walk quite so well and by the time we returned to the huge apartment complex, we stopped at the point where we were going to part ways."I will be making something delicious for dinner, you want some?" She offered, smiling broadly. "Ugh... it's fine, you don't need to--""Mira, it's okay. I'll bring the food box to you later." She insisted and then I stepped out of the elevator, while she went up to her own floor. As I approached my door, I started feeling sore pains all over. "What's happening to me?" I muttered to myself as I tried dragging my feet into the apartment. The moment I got in, the pain became unbearable and I lost my balance. I had never felt like this in my entire life. I groaned loudly as I crawled into the living room in pains. "Ughh!!!" It was so loud and I was no longer sounding like myself. "What the fuck is going on?" I groaned loudly again and this time I felt my bones enlarging and poking out of my skin. My nails grew into
The leather coat Karima got for me turned out to be so nice on me. I stepped out of the room and had breakfast with her, then we started heading to the resort in her car.I felt the strong urge to ask her who she really was, I believed that would answer every other question that I had for her. After raising what turned out to be a false alarm about a dying person, she did not flinch or scold me at all, as if she knew and understood what i was talking about. My head was filled with these thoughts that I did not realize she was talking to me."What did you say?" I asked her, after getting to realize that she was speaking to me."You look lost, Mira. What's the problem?" She inquired, looking at me and also tried to focus on the wheel at the same time."Oh, it's just...a few things bothering my mind." I let out, hoping to lead something but I decided to back down."Care to share them?" She asked nicely and alluringly. "No, I would not want to bother you. I will get it sorted out." I re
