I was officially a lobby agent at Greenvile, and a part of me felt excited.
Leo brought me a tray that had a chest badge with my name engraved on it, a journal that had my name also engraved on it and a pen, meant to be tucked in my chest pocket.
I fixed it all on and I was good to go. I followed him down to where-heavens-know because he had instructed me to follow, claiming that the whole of team 2 were waiting for me.
We finally got there, and it turned out to be Karima's office. The meeting started as soon as we got there, with Leo going to where Karima was."Good morning everyone." Karima started. "For our new team members, I am Karima and here is my co-team lead, Leo." She paused and gave Leo room to make any further statements of introduction.
He made some corporate gestures. I guess some people eventually made it past that training, and I felt bad that I did not get to experience the last phase of the training."So, you new members will get a manual from me, on how things have been done here, our rules and regulations. But the basic ones are, you are to be in uniform as long as you are coming here for work, anyone who disrespects any of our VIP and VVIP guests gets fired by default, no offensive words should be used for anyone. The new members are meant to honor and respect your seniors, and of course your team leads. Accountability to your team leads are the most important, nothing must happen without passing through us, you are not meant to work individually, it is why we are here as a team.Ugh...I think that's all for now, you will find the rest in the manual" She listed and I noted all mentally.
"You've got any word for them, Leo?" She turned to him but he nodded his head.
"Nothing much, let's just work together and make sure there are no issues." He asserted and we all nodded."Okay! So we will be expecting a guest by 12 PM, y'all get prepared for that. It's a VVIP, and you are expected to help the new members out, alright?"
"Alright Karima!" They all chorused. Karima's eyes started looking around and I guessed she was looking for me. Her eyes fell on me and she seemed relieved. "Mira, please step out." She instructed and I bit my lower lip, why was she calling me out?I complied and walked out to face the whole team, then she said, "This is Mira Silver, everyone. And she will be welcoming the VVIP guest this afternoon." She declared and my eyes almost popped out of their sockets. I was stunned to my bones! What?? I just started.
"But Karima, she just joined the team." A blonde lady chipped in and I saw Karima smile slightly.
"That is how it will be, Cindy. And that's enough! Uhm...I don't think there is anything I want to communicate to you guys for now, apart from preparing for the new guest, that's all. You are dismissed." She announced politely and calmly and everyone walked out. I was already walking towards the door when I heard my name asking me to stop.
I stood at the door because she seemed to be having a short talk with Leo at the moment, but I could hear everything.
"Why her? She is new, Karima." Leo spoke and sounded like he was not taking offence, just mere curiosity.
"Would you pick someone else?" She asked.
"Nah... it's fine. You are Karima after all, I trust your decisions and judgement." He replied and she smiled. "Thanks Leo. Yeah, you said you had some files to give me.""I will bring it later, I need to get to the support sales team." He replied and headed in my direction, to the door. He gave me a broad smile and muttered, "I wish you success!" He said before walking out of the door.
I stepped closer to where Karima was. "Why did you do that?" I spoke first.
"What? The selection? I just wanted you to have experience, that's all." "But there are other people here and even before me?." I countered firmly, not believing her response. "You seem to have forgotten that Travis Coles, my boss handed you over to me personally. But then it's a thing of professionalism and trust me, if you mess this up I will definitely scold you. So put in your best and make me proud, make yourself proud too. You can already hear humans you don't deserve it." She urged."I plan on doing my first assignment well." I assured her and she smiled.
"Care for tea?" She raised her brows and I nodded.....
My heart raced throughout while practicing my welcome smile words and gestures. I was trying to implement everything Leo taught us during the second day of training but there was no one to evaluate me.
For the umpteenth time, I drank from a bottled water and tried calming my anxiety but to no avail.
And at some point in time, I started feeling like I could not do it. I was losing faith in myself, maybe I should just go tell Karima to take it up?But I could not do that, it was impossible for me because I knew how many oppositions she had to face and would still have to face for instructing an amateur like me to handle a VVIP's arrival.
It was about thirty minutes to 12PM and I was still in the females' dressing room, then a knock came on the door.
"Who's there?" "Leo." "Oh, come in..sir." I replied and my boss walked in."I guess you have been rehearsing." He started, smiling and looking impressed.
"Yeah, I have. But it seems harder each time." "Hm. I disagree, it's not the rehearsal that's hard but it's something you have to deal with psychologically. Train your mind to believe you are a professional already and prepare your mind for what's to come. Don't just rehearse a script or try to cram words." He said. That made a lot of sense and it was true, I had been limiting myself in my mind so I guessed that was what made it harder.
Leo was with me for about ten minutes and helped me practice. With his help, I rehearsed so well and my anxiety reduced.I felt ready for it all!
I left the dressing room with Leo and headed to the first floor. "We are sorry for just arriving, Mira was stuck with preparing for her assignment." Leo said to Karima before I could even say anything. He defended me quite well there. The rest of the team were already around and so we had to be on two straight lines and then walked out the moment a convoy arrived at the entrance of the resort.I swallowed so hard, to totally suppress my anxiety and it was working. "I can do this." I muttered quietly to myself as the climax moment was here. One of the guys stationed at the entrance of the resort opened the door so the VVIP guest could step out and I stepped closer to the door, ready to welcome him. Leo had mentioned to me earlier that we all used to get a profiling on our guests to know the kind of person they were but Karima did not do this time around. The reason, he too could not explain.Either way, I trusted my long period of rehearsals to not fail me. I was meant to bow at nin
I later got his profile and I diligently went through it on the computer in my allocated space. It was a general office for the team but her spaces were demarcated well. Only the team leads, Karima and Leo, had their own special offices. My space wasn't bad actually. It was well furnished and we had a kitchen room where we could eat lunch, make instant coffee and tea, too. Leo forwarded the VVIP guest's profile to me and I was quick to go through it.Jordan Reign, 30, he barely talks-prefers to listen and observe, that was very obvious at our first meeting. He prefers a perfectly quiet environment, loves nature...and I guessed that was why his suite was openly facing the ocean, with green trees around, it was also stated that he was cranky and short-tempered.He loved absolute order and efficiency, cigars, and classical music. His dislikes stated noise and disorder, unnecessary attention, I guessed he preferred staying in the shadows. He hated it when people talked too much, we had t
While Karima was out, I played so vigorously on the piano in her apartment. I had been on it for hours and I did not plan to stop anytime soon. At some point, I relaxed my finger muscles and played a solemn piece I had always played right from my learning days. I knew how to play it best! And so that was what I planned to play for Jordan Reign. After an extra hour of rehearsing, I took my fingers off the piano. If I stayed any more minute, my fingers could become stiff and eventually mess up the real performance. I glanced at the time and saw that it was 2 at midnight. I sighed gently and I looked around, standing up from the bench I sat on. My body was almost numb. It was my first time staying this long at her apartment, being there even. Her apartment's theme was a bit plainer than mine and I guessed she had a bland taste, but everything there was luxurious.I walked to her kitchen to get a glass of water as I was dehydrated, then as I gulped down the natural liquid, I heard some
I was woken up in the morning by Karima's call. I swear, if she had not called me at that time, I would have gotten late for work. Apparently, she was back at her apartment to prepare for the day. Immediately the call ended, I walked into the shower and had a warm bath, then I put on casual wears with sneakers then waited patiently for her to be done.I would have gone up to her unit but the trauma I had the previous day was real, funny enough so I just waited on my floor. She reached out to me when she was done and we headed down to Greenville Resort together. "Are you well prepared for this?" She asked and I nodded.. "I am." I replied amidst my various thoughts. Ugh... there was a whole lot on my mind but I was not losing it yet. The stuff with Karima's music box bothered me, combined with my unsettled tummy out of the nervousness towards playing for our dear VVIP guest. It was even the way Karima was selling me out. I had not worked in any organization before but she was sure
"He wants me to play again for him by 7 tonight." I said to Karima as we headed to the office. Midway, we met Maria, the female lead of the team one, the one that did not like Karima. Some way, I had found out about her name and some details from some of my teammates' discussion.Again, she had that contemptuous look when she saw us coming and this time around, she stopped to speak. "Here goes the so-called Iron woman, who gets everything done." Maria said in a mocking manner and a smirk appeared on Karima's face. She did not even spare Maria a glance and just walked past her, I did the same too, feeling funnily sorry for her. What the heck was that non-verbal, punchy response Karima gave her?The look on Maria's face was killing, like the other day I had met her. Jealousy and anger were written all over her bodly. She obviously hated the fact that most guests preferred Karima's services and by default, services from our team to Maria's team, even though they were the first team.It
The other guest was Harrison Louis, a government official, a VVIP guest too and from the discussions between others that I overheard, it turned out the guest were initially meant for team one, Maria's team. But they made a mistake during one of their services and the guest angrily requested for another team to serve him. "I even heard Karima was not going to accept it." One of them chipped in."Of course, it's wrong for her to. It's more like handing over a leftover, but she had to take it just for the guest's sake." Another replied. As we headed to the man's room with three of my senior colleagues and Rowland, I remained quiet throughout. We got to the floor where the man's suite was, only to see so many guards there, securing. I wrinkled my brows, was this really necessary? They had us all scanned with a machine before we were allowed in.I just watched calmly, to learn. I was the type that gained mastery just by observing, it was my wiring. "The agents are here already, sir." On
I was shocked when he walked in. Why was he here? What was he looking for? It seemed like he came for trouble but he was actually calmer than anyone in that space. Harrison seemed to recognize him too, but he was not dazed by him."Yes, how may I help you...Mr...Reign?" He raised his voice immediately. As if he had not heard anyone speak, Jordan walked towards us and sent a dreadful stare at Karima, she immediately took her face down."3PM, that was the instruction." He let out calmly but in annoyance. "I am sorry, sir. There's been a bit of a situation."He moved his gaze away from her and to me, then he just stared. In return, I moved my own eyes to Karima, questioning her non-verbally about what was going on. 3PM? What was supposed to happen then?"You were supposed to play for him by 3, plans changed." She mentioned and an 'o' escaped my lips. I realized he was still staring at me and I took my eyes down immediately. "Join me up there in ten minutes. I don't care about what h
It was my first time in that suite's bedroom. This place was beyond luxury and grandness, the bedroom was super spacious and well furnished. "Sit on the bed." He ordered and the red alerts really got triggered in my mind. What are we doing? I looked at him and saw the dreadful glare at me, no one told me before I complied.Honestly, I don't know how and why but he got me there. There was a strong pull. He moved closer to me and instead of defending myself or something, I closed my eyes out of fear, not anticipation now.I was literally at his control, it felt more like a supernatural thing. I don't know what happened but I could feel something refreshing on my skin. Opening my eyes slowly, I discovered his eyes were closed and his hands were above my head, make a certain, calm gesture above my head.Soon, he opened his eyes and they were now in Amber colour, I could see the flames in them. He did not even spare me a glance, right before me, he closed his eyes and opened them again,
