KIARA

"What's that supposed to mean?" Estella demanded, her face turning pale. Denzel's eyes slipped close, his breathing strained. Wide-eyed, Keenan tried to take out the dagger, but it refused to budge.

"I asked you a question, Denzel!" Estella screamed, frustration written all over her face.

"Get the dagger out of his chest, right now," Keenan hissed, narrowing his eyes at her.

"W-what?" She stuttered.

"Please, Estella," I pleaded, tears clouding my vision.

"We can't have him dying before he can give you the answers," Keenan said, and she growled at him.

"Fine!"

She stormed towards us and yanked out the dagger from his chest. She placed a hand over his wound, her hand radiating a silver glow. When she moved her hand away, more blood began to gush from the deep cut in his chest. Keenan cursed under his breath, bringing two fingers to the side of Denzel's neck to feel his pulse.

Fear sank into me as I brought a trembling hand to his chest, pressing down on his wound.

DENZEL It was the first time Adam took over while I was still conscious of who and where I was. I couldn't feel the pain anymore. The relief I felt was enough to bring tears to my eyes. However, there was a grief that weighed down on my heart, one I couldn't shake off."Are you still worried about her?" Adam asked through the mental link binding us together. "I don't know how not to," I responded. He sighed. "I understand. I know we left her on such a short notice, and she might be heartbroken about it. But, I have a feeling that she's going to do something crazy.""You think? She does have a bit of crazy in her. She just never expressed it," I responded. "What if...Now, don't get worked up or anything. What if she decides to go after us?" Adam asked, and my heart sank."She wouldn't. She doesn't know where we're headed," I said, and he tsked."She's smarter than you think, Denzel. Let's hope for the best."We stood on the hill that marked the territory of the northern wolfl

KIARA Keenan led the way as we stormed into the courtyard of the palace of the northern wolfland, just in time to see Estella attacking Denzel without restraint. They were moving too fast; their movements were almost a blur. I glanced at Keenan, worried."What do we do? At this rate, they're going to kill each other," I said.We could have arrived at the palace three days later if we hadn't asked Ryssa to contact some mages who could teleport us to our destination. "Isn't that your mate?" I heard Estella say, and I redirected my gaze back to her. Denzel had pushed her away from himself, his wild, dual-coloured gaze meeting mine. Although he was silent, I could tell that he didn't want me there at the moment. "This is interesting. Should I get rid of your woman first?" Denzel's sister said, a sinister smile on her face. He growled at her, grabbing her by the throat when she attacked him again. It happened too fast. One moment, Keenan was by my side. By the next, he was gone. I

KIARA Two months passed, and the man I loved the most was stuck in a coma. I spent days staying by his side, watching over him. I was afraid that he would give up on us. Despite the fact that he was unconscious, he had recurrent fevers and tremors. The healers had tried to give me words of comfort, but I didn't feel better. I couldn't. "Your Highness?" With a tap to the shoulder, I sat up on my chair, looking up to see a maid by my side."Yes?" I said, and she bowed."You should get some rest, my queen. You have not slept well in ages," she stated, and I looked away, my gaze resting on Denzel, who was lying on his bed, unconscious. His upper body was bare, and his pale skin was glistening with sweat."Is he having a fever again?" I said, rising to my feet."Your Highness..."I cut her off as I moved to sit on the bed beside my mate, soaking a white towel in the bowl of water by his bedside. "Don't worry about me. I can take care of him just fine."The maid bowed briefly and l

DENZEL Sitting up in bed, I winced at the pain wrecking my body. For some reason, I felt empty. Adam was gone. My mind had never felt so clear. "Denzel!" I looked up at the sound of Kiara's voice, a smile lighting up my face. "Kiara..." She hurried to my side, embracing me. My smile widened as she held on to me for much longer. Eventually, she pulled away to gaze at my face. Her green eyes were filled with unshed tears, but the joy in them was palpable. "How are you feeling?" She asked. "A little sore. But that's it," I responded, and she let out a sigh of relief, leaning into my arms as she pressed a kiss to my forehead. "I missed you so much," she whispered. "How long have I been unconscious?" I asked, noticing the size of her much bigger baby bump. "It's been a while..." She said and my smile faded. The thought that I'd made her miserable for a while was enough to make my heart sink. "How long?" I asked, and she grimaced."It's been two months," she responded. "It

KIARA Everything was a blur of pain and screams. My baby was about to be born premature, and my body felt like it was being ripped apart. In a state of delirium, I could no longer grasp my reality. All I could hear was the sound of my mate's voice. I could feel his gentle touches as I slipped in and out of consciousness, feeling my legs being pried apart. I smelled the blood, and the despair hanging heavily in the air. I knew something was wrong. It wasn't just about my baby being premature. Still trapped in a daze, I felt Denzel cup my face, bringing his forehead to mine. "I'm here. I'm never letting you go. Take my strength. Take as much as you can to finish this. Stay with me. Breathe with me," he whispered. In that moment, I felt a surge of energy through my being. A rippling wave that flowed through our bond. It was so powerful, it made me scream. With a final attempt at releasing my child into the world, a cry of a newborn filled the air, and I shut my eyes for a mom

KIARA Before I could attack him, a crippling wave of magic was channeled in my direction, bringing me to my knees. While I struggled with this, he swung a clawed hand in my direction. The moment I thought I'd escaped the strike of his hand, a black mass of energy was thrown towards me, catching me off guard. I shut my eyes, awaiting what I perceived to be a deadly impact. It never came. When I opened my eyes, Cassy was standing in front of me, her eyes wide. She coughed up blood, and I lowered my gaze to see her torso melting away as tendrils of dark magic ate into her flesh. She collapsed into my arms, and I gasped, my eyes clouding up with tears. Bringing a shaky hand to her wound, I hissed as the residues of magic burned the palm of my hand."It's okay. It's.... really okay..." She gasped. "No...not now. Cassy, please..." I sobbed as her eyes lost their shine. Closing my eyes, I tried to concentrate on mending her collapsing body. But I couldn't. "You killed her. Just l

DENZEL I had stayed up all night, worried about my mate who had suddenly gone missing. I didn't know what she was up to, and I was anxious. Kiara was not in the right state of mind. Even if she went after Alarok, in her state, she wouldn't be able to do anything. I'd tried to find her through her scent. She must've wanted to stay out of my sight, she had masked her scent. The sun was half way up in the sky, and the morning sky was a bright orange. I stood in the garden, surrounded by the comforting smell of flowers. "Your majesty," I heard Keenan say from behind me. "Has she been found?" I asked."Yes, your majesty. She has just returned," he responded. I closed my eyes, relief sinking deep into me."How is she?" I asked."You should see for yourself," he replied, and I stiffened. Tensed, I turned away from the view of the sunrise and hurried into the passageway. Right then, I saw her approaching from the other end. I could smell the blood caked on her skin and clothes. Her

KIARA For the rest of the night, I was unable to sleep. Afraid that I would have another nightmare, a replay of Cassy's death, I stayed awake. I'd tried to convince Denzel to get some sleep. But, he'd refused to let me stay awake alone. I knew more than anyone else how worried he was. I wished I didn't have to make him worry that much. I'd tried to fool myself into believing that everything was fun. It was clear now, I was wrong. To alleviate my mate's concerns, I had breakfast with him and took my time settling down to have a long soak in a hot bath. When I was done, I slipped on my black robe, tying the sash around my waist absentmindedly. While I headed back to bed, I stumbled and almost fell. "There you go again. You're such a klutz."A shiver ran down my spine at the sound of Cassy's cheery voice. Slowly, I turned around and found her leaning against the wall with her arms folded across her chest. She had an amused smile on her face, her blue eyes shimmering. "What?" S

KIARA "Are you ready?" My mate asked me as I wrapped an arm around his waist and pressed a kiss to his bare back. We were both lying in bed on our first anniversary."I'm excited," I squeaked, and he chuckled. "You're finally getting to imprint on my mind. Of course, you should be excited," he replied, his voice laced with amusement. "Close your eyes. I'm gonna go in now," I whispered, delving into his mind. When I opened my eyes again, we were standing on top of a hill. There was a beautiful, clear waterfall directly opposite us, and there were bright red roses growing along the paths of the wide expanse of the mountains. The sky was a breathtaking pink, and the breeze was refreshingly cool. "Can I open my eyes now?" Denzel asked, and I chuckled, leaning into him from behind. "Yes."He glanced around, whistling under his breath. "Denzel?" I said, and he turned to look at me, his eyes wide with awe. Holding out a hand, I gave him a big smile."Let's go for a walk," I sugge

KIARA A scream tore through the air, and I narrowed my eyes, pulling the door open. Hurrying down the hallway, I reached out for Denzel through our bond. However, I got no response.More screams and cries filled the air, and my stomach churned. I didn't need a soothsayer to tell me what was happening. Lucas was here. The battle had officially begun. Maids scrambled in my direction, their dresses stained with blood. "Azalea," I breathed, worried about my daughter's safety. Just before I could get to the nursery, I saw Cassy running towards me with Azalea in her arms. Her eyes were wide with terror. "He's here. He's killing everyone," she panted. "Take her to the basement. Can you do that for me?" I asked, and she gulped. "Stay safe, Kiara. Please." She croaked. I nodded, patting her back. I watched her continue down the hallway. She suddenly vanished out of sight. Relieved to know that my daughter was in good hands, I crouched by the side of an unconscious guard and grabbed

KIARA Denzel and I sat in our bedroom with Azalea asleep in my arms. My mate had cleaned himself up and was now dressed in his robe. There was a blank expression on his face. It was obvious that we were worried about the fact that Lucas had stolen Ria's power. I still couldn't wrap my head around how he had managed to do that. With Ria's power in his possession, I was the only one who could truly put him down for good. But there was one problem. I was yet to remove the seal. Lucas could attack at any moment. However, we were not ready for him. I still didn't know what Lucas' plan was, and this was unnerving. "Don't worry too much about it," Denzel said to me, his gaze meeting mine. I knew he was trying to comfort me. But, at this point, it was the last thing I needed. I couldn't shake off the feeling that a much bigger war was coming. One which was capable of causing a much bigger catastrophe. If we weren't ready for it, we were bound to get destroyed. "What if he comes her

DENZEL "She was right here in her cot. I was standing by the window, preparing her food. When I turned around, she was gone," Kiara's maid said, her head lowered. We were in the nursery, and Kiara was pacing back and forth. I knew she was barely holding it together. "You didn't hear anybody walk in?" She asked, and the maid shook her head. "No one came in. I would've heard the door open."Kiara gripped several locks of her hair and tugged. I walked up to her, releasing her grip on her hair."Don't hurt yourself," I said, and she looked up at me, her eyes filled with both desperation and anguish."It's all my fault. I shouldn't have left her side. I should have stayed to protect her," she said, her voice trembling. "We will find her," I stated, and she shook her head feverishly."Lucas... what if he's the one who took her? What if he took her to get back at us? What do we do now? This can't be happening," she sobbed. My mate was slipping right into panic mode, and it hurt me t

KIARA I didn't think. I grabbed the woman's arm and pulled her off my mate's body. Denzel stumbled out of bed and hurried into the bathroom with unsteady movements. Grabbing the strange woman by the hair, I kicked her at the back of her legs, bringing her to her knees. She cackled, and I narrowed my eyes at her, bringing my claws to her throat. "Who are you?" I demanded, and she stopped laughing."Can't you tell? I'm you.""What?" I breathed. For a moment, she almost got me to believe her. However, the glint in her eyes reminded me of Ria in an unnerving way. "Stop hiding behind that illusion. Show yourself!" I snapped. "You're no fun," she hissed, transforming into her original form. It was Ria."You bitch," I spat, my claws digging into her skin. Pushing me away from her, she transformed into her signature animal and vanished. The sound of Denzel throwing up in the bathroom made me grimace. When he emerged out of it, his face was as white as sheets. "Care to explain how

KIARA Stepping out into the garden due to my sudden insomnia, I was surprised to find my mate in an odd position with Ria. He had his hand wrapped around her throat, his eyes darkening with menace. "There she is. The star of the occasion," Ria choked out, casting a sidelong glance at me. "Denzel, what's going on?" I asked, and he refused to look at me. "Go ahead, Denzel. Tell her how you hid the fact that Lucas showed up again," Ria stated, and I narrowed my eyes at them."What is she talking about, Denzel? Did Lucas really show up?" I asked, and a muscle ticked in his jaw. He still wouldn't look at me. "Come on, Denzel. Don't keep her waiting. She wants to know about your injury and the fact that Lucas kissed you," Ria said, and I froze.I was appalled by the thought of Denzel hiding all of that from me. But, I felt more hurt knowing that Ria was aware of the things I didn't know."He's such a terrible mate, isn't he? He made you believe that you were his partner amidst all of th

He stated, clearly amused.I scoffed at him, increasing the pressure on my wound. "Maybe he was just messing with you. Maybe he was trying to get a reaction out of you. However, if he's into men, he might be head over heels for you," Keenan continued, and I glared at him. "That's bullshit.""I know, right? This is crazy. Will you tell Kiara about that? No, wait...if you tell her about that, she's bound to find out about your injury," he said."What injury?"We both stiffened as the door opened and Ria walked in. She narrowed her eyes at me. DENZEL "There are no signs of injury on his body, your Highness. We suspect that this is a psychological issue," a member of the royal healers said to Kiara, who was perched by my side, holding my hand. I kept my eyes closed. Therefore, no one knew that I'd regained consciousness. "He coughed up blood, you know that. How can it be psychological?" Kiara asked."I'm afraid we do not have the answer to that yet.""You can leave now. I'll stay with him," Kiara said. The moment we were all alone, Kiara kissed my knuckles and stroked my hair. "Will you tell me what happened without lying to me?" She suddenly said, startling me. I opened my eyes to look at her."You knew that I've been awake?" I said, and she nodded. "Please tell me you know exactly what happened to you," she said, and I heaved a sigh, closing my eyes."It was Lucas. He was in my dream, except...it didn't feel like a dream. KIARA A week later, it was confirmed that Estella had indeed taken her own life. She'd left a will behind. Apparently, she had been overcome with a sense of emptiness. Although Estella and I didn't have a solid relationship, I felt bad for her. Denzel was hurt by her decision. He'd done everything to protect her, after all. With the royal family of the northern states down to one member, I had a feeling that it wouldn't be long before Denzel became their king. I knew that my mate was going through a lot. However, I could not comfort him the way I wanted to. Since I had to make sure that Ria believed that my relationship with Denzel was in shambles, I couldn't get affectionate with my mate. Ria was everywhere. She was making it clear that she was there to stake her claims. If I wanted to defeat her, I needed to unlock the fullness of my potential. I stared at the cloudy night sky with mixed feelings. The cool breeze caressed my hair and made me relax. Taking a deep breath, I cl
