Grey stared at her unable to fathom why he had said that to her. He was tempted to run his fingers in her wet hair, but decided against it, as he walked towards the bed, and picked up the dress laid out for her. He walked up to her, and thrusted the dress into her hands. "Get dressed, and come down for breakfast," he said, and walked towards the door, and as he opened it, he added. "Ten minutes," he said, and walked out of the room without looking back.
Maya let out the breath she had no idea she had been holding. She placed her hand on her chest, and could feel her heartbeat accelerating. How could one person make her fear so much? She wondered.
Just then, the three omegas walked in again. "Luna, please let's proceed. We have to be quick. The alpha said ten minutes." Gwen said.
"O-okay," Maya said, too flustered to respond properly, as her mind flashed back to what just happened a minute ago.
"What do you want?" She asked.
"You," he said, with a look she had never seen before.
What was he trying to do? She pondered, as she slowly walked away from the wall. Was he trying to taunt her?
**********
Grey walked down the stairs wondering why at one point he gets irritated at her, and the next minute, he finds himself all tangled up about her.
It's the mate bond, Vin, his wolf, responded to his thoughts.
Yes, it is, but, I still have a feeling that it could be more than that, Grey said to him.
What else could it be, Grey? You're overthinking it all, Vin said.
I'm not, Grey replied simply, as he walked down the flight of stairs.
Okay, but, you do realize she's plotting a way to abscond from these walls, Vin said.
Grey mentally nodded. He knew Maya was planning on running away because he could hear her thoughts, it was due to the mate bond, but, he wasn't going to tell her that she was his mate.
She will not pull through with it, Grey concluded as he got to the dining room. The elders were already seated, waiting patiently for him. He took his position at the head of the table. Before him were spreads of skillet sausages, corn beef hash which was diced and skillet cooked with cubed potatoes, and thinly sliced leeks, topped up with an egg. Grits with shrimps, oysters and stuffed tomatoes, and slices of toast.
"Where's the bride?" Elder Eli asked.
Grey leaned back in his seat, and stared at him. "Is that a new form of greeting?" He asked.
"My apologies, alpha," Eli said apologetically. Despite he and the others being the elders of the pack, they were not spared from the wrath of alpha.
"Good morning, alpha." All the elders said in unison.
"She'll be down soon," Grey said instead. Elder Simon wondered what was the need of greeting him when he would not respond to it, but he didn't question him.
Grey picked up the glass of wine in front of him, and took a sip, before placing the glass on the table, and tapping on the rim.
Exactly ten minutes later, Maya walked down the stairs, with the three omegas behind her. Grey felt her overwhelming presence, and turned to see her walking down the stairs, and he stopped tapping on the rim of his glass.
Maya walked towards the dining room nervously, as she tried not to fidget with her fingers.
Grey lifted his glass, and placed it on his lips, slowly sipping the wine, as his eyes scrutinized her from the rim of the glass. She was wearing a floral print plunge long sleeve dress, and her curves could barely be hidden in them. Her hair was straightened behind her back with just a few strands falling along the delicate lines of her face. She was exquisitely lovely.
His lips curled up in a smirk as he watched her. Gwen pulled out a seat opposite the elders, but a bit close to Grey. Grey placed the glass on the table.
Maya took the seat, and sat down. "Good morning," she said, a quirky smile on her lips.
The five elders stared at Maya, unable to hide their disdain.
"Here's your future Luna," he said to them, unaware of the scornful look on their faces.
"Where is she from?" Elder Eli asked.
"The Oasis pack." Grey said, his eyes not leaving Maya's face for a second.
Maya folded her hands on her laps, unable to look at any of them. Unable to even notice the mouthwatering dishes in front of her. Some of the omegas were standing in a corner watching the scenerio.
"The daughter of Killian?" Elder John asked.
Grey picked up his glass again, this time, the amusement in him was evident on his face. "No. An omega," he said, before placing the glass on his lips, waiting for the shock to register in their heads.
The omegas standing were taken aback by Grey's words, and all of a sudden, a dislike sprang into their heart. How could a lowlife omega be their Luna? How could they bow, and take orders from an omega like them? These words etched in their minds, as their dislike spread like wildfire on a harmattan morning.
"Is this a joke, Alpha?" Eli asked, looking away from Maya to Grey.
Grey placed the glass of wine back on the table, and leaned into his seat, his elbow propped on the arm of the chair. "As a matter of fact, no," he said, and then stared at his fingers. "Now that you've seen your future Luna, do tell me, when is the date of this marriage, let's get it over with," he said, and Maya's heart throbbed. The lunatic! Was she just a tool he was about to use? She wondered, as she looked up to stare at him. This was all a game to him. Her life, freedom, and welfare was all a game of gamble to this man. But why? Why her? She asked no one in particular, and as usual, she got no answer to her numerous questions.
"She can't be our Luna." Elder Eli said to the shock of Maya, jolting her out of her reverie, as the other elders nodded in agreement, and Grey had an unreadable expression on his face.
Grey raised an eyebrow as he stared from Eli to the rest of the elders. "Why?" He asked."She's an omega, alpha," Eli said.Grey tapped on his glass of wine on the table. "Your point exactly?" He asked."An omega cannot, and will never be our Luna," he said."I'm sorry, alpha, but, that's just how it has to be." John interjected.Grey raised a brow, his back still pressed in his seat. "Really?" He asked, and they nodded in agreement, including the omegas standing a few feets away.Grey folded his hands together, as his icy blue eyes were fixed on them. "Y'all know I do whatever I please," he said, and they nodded, having zero idea of where he was heading with his words. "But then, I decided to do this one thing y'all asked of me, as a sign of respect, and here you all are, telling me otherwise," he said, a blank expression on his face. Maya said nothing as she kept her eyes on her fingers, her ears wide open to understand all what was going on before her, and her heart thudding in her
Gwen noticed the change in Maya's demeanor, and she went closer to her. "Are you okay, Luna?" She asked worriedly.Maya gave a slight nod. "I'm just trying to... catch..." She began to say, feeling her eyes closing. "My breath," she said in a hush voice, before slipping down on the floor."Luna!" Gwen said, falling to her knees, as she shook Maya, trying to revive her. "Look what you've caused!" She said, shooting Cora a hard glare, and then looked at Maya with a panicked expression on her face. "Oh, my. I wonder what the alpha would do to us once he finds out we caused the Luna to faint," Gwen said, as she held Maya's hand, trying to pull her up. "Help me take her to the alpha's room," she added, but Cora scoffed, and walked away. One by one the other omegas did the same thing too.Gwen was trying her best to pick Maya up, but was failing. Soon, she got help when the salutary walked into the house in an accord to check up on Maya.He sighted Gwen struggling with Maya, and rushed to h
Maya stood by the window examining the distance between the window and the ground outside. Her eyes darted left and right to see if there was any warrior in sight, and indeed there was. Earlier this morning there was less of them, but as the blue sky had turned grey with twinkling stars, there was more than seven warriors in sight. There was no way she could successfully scale through the wall of the window without being seen. She groaned hard. Perhaps she should try running away very early tomorrow morning. She groaned hard again. "Another night in this place," she said in dismay, and heaved gravely. "It's just one night. It wouldn't be that bad." She said trying to reassure herself. She turned away from the window, and immediately her body stiffened by who she saw resting his lithe frame on the wall. Her breathing quickened, and her knees buckled, as her eyes met his."What do you mean by one night left?" He asked her with a blank expression on his face. She swallowed. She was quite
"Why?" Grey asked her, with a rare puzzled look on his face.Maya looked away from him as she shrugged. "How am I supposed to know?" She asked him. After all, the salutary had not come to see her. He had only come at the right time when she fainted."Did he check on you?" Grey asked her, as he recalled the salutary saying he was going to come check on Maya to know if she was alright, and to confirm whatever presumption he had of her.She looked at him, and hugged her arms to herself, shaking her head. "No," she said. She would not tell him about the bully she got from the omegas."Well then," he said, as he shrugged his shoulders a little. "Do you want to have dinner now?" He asked her.She stared at him wondering why he was bothered about her not eating. It felt as if he heard her as he eyed her from head to toe. "You look extremely thin," he said to her in sarcasm. She frowned at him. "I'm not thin. I'm lean, okay?" She said."Dinner?" He asked her, playing dumb to her words. She wa
"You know, tonight reminds me of the first time we met, right at the sphere of this waterfall," he whispered softly with a smile on his face, and his arm entwined with hers, as they walked towards the waterfall. She giggled and whispered into his ears "I had sent a flaming spear to kill you, remember?" He grinned. "But, you didn't. You were mesmerized by my eyes." "Maybe," she replied with a happy tone. They got to the sphere of the waterfall, and he held her hand, and brought it to his lips. She smiled at him."I'll never get tired of seeing your beautiful face, my love," he said to her."Even if I turn old, wrinkling and grey?" She asked him."You'll look even more beautiful in my eyes," he said as his lips lingered on her hand."Oh, Verne," she laughed, and as he let go of her hand, she wrapped her arms around him. "I love you, always, now and forever.""I love you more Alyssa. More than you can ever imagine," he said to her as he placed a kiss on her forehead."Emperor!" Someone
Maya regained herself and began to struggle in his arms. "Let go of me!" She yelled out as she tried to break free, but, Grey didn't relinquish his hold on her. His grip on her waist tightened more than before."Stop annoying me," he said in a brittle tone."I don't want to be here!" Maya yelled, fighting him off. "I want to be anywhere but here!" She kept yelling. In furious annoyance, he swung her over his shoulder like she was just a bag of feathers, and walked in the direction of the pack house. "Let go of me!" Maya kept yelling as she let out her frustration on him. She kicked, scratched, hit, and clawed his skin.Grey held onto her, bearing her onslaught, as he continued walking without halting a second to make her stop the fuss she was making. He was furious at her for actually going on with the plan that she had formed in her head. She has only been in the pack house for a day. What pain has she gone through to decide to run away? He hasn't even been cruel to her. If anything,
Maya looked in the direction of where the water came from, and she was shocked to see Cora. Cora smiled mischievously. "Oops," she mouthed feigning surprise as she placed her fingers on her mouth. "I didn't see you there. My bad," she said pretentiously.Maya could already imagine strangling her and making sure she was lifeless. "I'm very sure this place is not for garbage or..." Maya began to speak, but Cora interrupted her."Of course, this place is not for trash," she said with an evil smile. "Trash like you," she added, and Maya stared at her, as she struggled hard to keep her cool.Cora walked up to her. "You don't belong here, omega. Take your stinking self out of this place," she ordered, and Maya's eyes blazed with fury, as she clenched her hands to her side, as she stared hard at Cora. "Becoming a Luna doesn't hide the stench of an omega written all over you." Cora said in despise.Maya chuckled dryly. "Do not forget that I can simply wait for the alpha's return, and report y
Grey's eyes scanned Maya's body in his shirt. His gaze was on her finely shaped legs. He had not expected to come back to the house to find her in his shirt, especially not after she had rejected putting it on. "Turn around," he said in a drawl, without realizing it.Maya tried to keep her breathing steady, as she slowly turned around. She feared he would do the abominable to her for putting on his shirt without permission. Grey held his breath. He could hardly take his eyes off her. He was enthralled by how hot she looked in just a loose fitting shirt. He threw caution to the wind, as he walked towards her in slow and majestic steps befitting the bloodline of a royal. Maya began to hyperventilate. She had no idea what was in his mind, or what he was planning to do to her. Who would save her from the clutches of this man? Grey inched closer to her, bridging the gap between them. Her back was pressed against the table. "I'm sorry, I didn't..." She began to speak, but Grey cut in, as h
