Maya could feel a rush of burning desire overwhelming her as she touched the book. For a moment, she was in a trance as flashes of incoherent images swirled around her. She heaved and let go of the book.
"Luna, what happened?" Gwen asked, noticing her withdrawal.
"Nothing, Gwen. I'm fine," she assured her, and turned to the man under the umbrella. "I'll take the book," she said to him.
He grinned. "I knew you would like it. I have more, believe me," he tried to persuade Maya to buy more as he placed different books in front of her.
"No," she declined gently. "I'll take this one," she said referring to the red book. It calls out to me, she added in her heart.
Gwen was shocked to see the alpha standing right before Maya, and so was Jayden.Without saying a single word to any of them, he dragged Maya out, pulling her by the wrist, and she stumbled letting out a gasp, unable to match his long strides, and her book fell from her hand.Maya could tell Grey was seething in rage. Even as they got back to the pack house, his anger was still in him, like a radiating smoke simmering out of him.His silence right from when he saw her at the fair, up till now was killing her. He practically dragged her into the pack house, up the stairs, and flung her into the room. She gasped in shock as she stared at him.He slammed the door shut, and his eyes blazed down on hers. "What did I tell you about leaving the pack house?" He demanded through
The next morning, Maya walked down the stairs, and headed towards the dining room for breakfast. Grey was already seated with Zing, and they were involved in a discussion. At the sight of Maya, they became quiet. "Good morning," Maya greeted as she walked over to her seat."Morning," they both responded. Zing's response was a bit cheerful, but Grey's own wasn't. He was still upset with her about last night, till the extent he had left the room all to her, and slept in the study.Maya ate her breakfast of red wine braised boneless short rib, oysters mushrooms, chive mashed potatoes and black truffles in silence wondering if he was still upset with her. Why should he be upset with me? I'm not at fault. He is at fault. If he will not tell me what's going on, and would rather keep getting angry at me, then so be it, She thought with a shrug, and Grey stared at her with an unreadable expression on his face."You know, not everything needs to be said. Some things are better left unknown,"
Verne and Alyssa's bond was inseparable despite the circumstances they faced. While he rescued her from the transparent sphere of the heavens outback, he had lost most of his powers, and refused to recuperate until he had healed her from every pain she felt from the lightning strikes. Without her powers, all she could do was look after him and care for him like a normal human would. When he had finally awoken from his unconsciousness, and was asked to recuperate, a raid had happened, and he forfeited his rest to regain his powers, and went to the raid despite all Alyssa's refusal. Unknown to Verne, it was a trap set by one of his trusted demon commander, Eris, to lure him out, and have him killed, knowing he was too weak to retaliate. Verne was kidnapped all because he was in love with a woman he shouldn't be in love with and Alyssa had almost lost her life to save him. When Verne had left the demon clan to the raid, the rest of the little demons he was ruling over, brought it
Alyssa was able to save Verne, but at the expense of Ariel's stay in the heavens, and she was set to be trialed, and if found guilty of all accusations that one of the goddesses, leveled against her, she would be casted out of the heavens. Once again, Alyssa was summoned to the heavens to return that which she had stolen, but she was no longer in possession of it. The heavenly mirror, and the staff of light was stolen from her, and she was to pay with her life. Verne had stormed into the Heavens unannounced, and had exchange of words with the heavenly emperor. "You sit on your throne, every day, barking orders of death, and you have the temerity to say that we demons are nothing but vulgar barbarians who kill for pleasure?" He demanded in anger. "We are not the same, Verne. Your type of people feed on the fears of human to remain sane, and out of pleasure, leading to their deaths. My kind of people, punish those who have gone against the laws governing the heavens," the heavenly e
Grey walked into the room totally ignoring Maya as he took off his coat, left with only his dove grey shirt, and coated jeans.Maya stood up from the chair, noting his presence in the already dark room, dimly lit up by the incandescent bulbs covered by a triangular glass on the wall. She realized it was dusk already. She moved towards the door, also ignoring him, despite her heart racing. If it was silence he wanted, silence he would get, she thought to herself as she walked out of the room. Grey watched her leave without saying a word to him, his expression was blank, but his heart was heavy.Maya walked down the stairs, and she could hear commotion going on outside the pack house. All of a sudden, the pack door burst open, and Reina forced herself in. The sentinels by the door were holding her. "You can't go in," they said to her, but she fought against them."Let go of me," she cried out."Let her be," Maya said, stopping them from pulling her out of the house. At the sight of May
"I'm not that cruel to let her stay out in the forest because of the hurtful things her, her parents and sisters did to me," Maya replied to Grey, in the same steadfast tenacity. Grey was infuriated by her stubbornness. "Did it ever occur to you that this could be a plan? A plan work to trap me or trap you?" He inquired in a subtle anger. She stared at him. "That what? Plan against you? And for what reason?" She asked him. "I know you're way smarter than this, Maya," he replied, his gaze unwavering. "I exposed them on the unfair justice you got, and it's possible that this is a retaliation. Do you not get it?" He demanded. "That girl out there is throwing a tantrum to perforate into this house, and carry out whatever insidious plan, her mother must have instigated her to do," he added, trying to make her see reasons with him on why Reina should not be allowed to stay in the pack house. "I get the fact that you're afraid," Maya began to say. He stared at her, and then chuckled wryl
"Grey, have you gotten to know who is sending you those texts?" Zing asked, as they walked down the stairs. "No, Zing. But, I'm still very sure Andrew is responsible. With the words he said the last time we met, only a moronic mind would not piece the puzzle together," he replied. "You're quite right, but, remember you suspected the attackers of that night to be Andrew's rogues, but they turned out to be a wide range of wolves with no scent to tell who they were," Zing said to him, as they walked out of the pack house. Grey groaned inwardly. He hated to be wrong. "And it makes it difficult to pin the night attack on Andrew," he responded, walking down the steps in front of the pack house. Just then Zing caught sight of Reina with the other omegas by the olive tree. "
Grey and Zing arrived at the council meeting. The alphas and betas were already seated in the meetings cabin, waiting impatiently for them. One thing about Grey that was surprising was how he expected things to be done according, how he expected things to be done on time, and yet he was always the one waited upon, and he always appeared at meetings usually late.To him, when he sets a time for a thing to be done, he expects his instructions to be followed to the latter, without disappointments, and readily on time. But, if he was not the one responsible for the time addressed, he literally does whatever he feels like. He was a no respecter of any man, especially not the greedy and selfish men on this table."Gentlemen, shall we begin this meeting?" Grey asked suddenly, as he walked into the room with Zing behind him, and everyone that had been talking, kept qui
Maya was rushed over to the salutary who attended to her while the rest of the pack house were in a frenzy. ** Five days later ***Grey held Maya's hand, his eyes not leaving her face as he hoped and prayed that she would open her eyes soon. Gwen was sitting at the opposite side of the bed, with her hands clasped in prayers. She has already told Grey all about Vivian. She had been the instigator of the lie that spread out in the heavens, just to get rid of Maya. It's been five days since Maya was in coma and she feared for her life. Grey had never left Maya's side since she was brought into the salutary's cabin. He was disoriented and too worried about her to worry about himself. He prayed fervently, every now and then for her to open her eyes. He prayed to whoever he hoped would answer. The Salutary had no idea if Maya would ever wake up, but yet, Grey did not lose hope. His heart, body and soul was wrenched in pain and the pain of losing Maya and the baby, hurt him the more. All of
"I didn't tell you who I am. How did you know?" Grey asked the witch."Who doesn't know the legendary Dark emperor who has now reincarnated into an alpha? I know you too well and I know what brought you here," she said. She had white streaks in her raven hair.Grey stared at her and waited for her to continue. "You're here concerning the apocalypse and the possible solution to it," she said and Grey nodded. "The ancestors have told me of your coming already," she added."You have been told all your life that light and darkness do not go hand in hand. It is an unbalanced force of nature, but you've been told lies all along," she said and they all stared at her in amazement except from Grey who was shocked."Light and darkness go together, alpha. That's why the mystical lake was placed in the demon world to prove that even the purest streak of light can be found in darkness. The child said to be born to initiate the apocalypse, is the wrong prophecy. The child is being born to unite the
"All these, are the reasons why I was hostile to Maya. I could not tell her about it and that was why I was being subtle in our separation until maybe I get a solution to it all," Grey said."Have you found anything?" Zing asked.Grey shook his head. "I went to meet the heavenly emperor. Someone stole the ancient book about the mystical lake in the demon world. The book holds invisible writings on how to merge the three worlds together using the lake as a connection. What this person is not aware of is that, this could destroy everything," he explained further."Who is this person?" Zing asked."I do not know. The heavenly emperor is pretending not to know. He only told me that the Heavenly mirror and the staff of light are tools in causing this destruction and these two properties of heaven are missing," Grey said.Zing narrowed his eyes. "They're with Maya," he replied."Not anymore. They were taken away from her," Grey said.
As soon as she was gone and out of his sight. Grey mounted the stairs. He got into the study room and in a fierce anger, he threw away every thing laying idly on the table over to the floor. He groaned in pain and hurt as he flung the desk in disarray. With that done, he crumbled to the floor, finding it hard to breathe as short gasped of painful tears gathered in his eyes and threatened to surface.•"Maya, you don't have to go. This can be settled," Gwen said to Maya in a pleading voice, outside the pack gate.Maya shook her head. "This cannot be settled, Gwen. I believe in Grey a lot and I do love him, but, this is the last straw that I can take. I do not know what has gotten into him, but, I cannot handle it any longer," she replied in a tear filled voice."Maya," Gwen began to say pitifully so she could stay, but Maya stood her ground, declining to stay back in the pack house.Just then, Zing showed up. "What'
Vivian is taken to the salutary by Grey while Maya still stood speechless for what has just happened. She could hardly believe her eyes. Can a push cause a miscarriage? She pondered. But, if she had not done that, she would have been the one on the ground with blood flowing down her legs.Grey got to the salutary's cabin and instructed the salutary to take attend to Vivian urgently. "Grey," Vivian called him through gasps as he turned to leave. He turned to her. "The salutary will attend to you. I'll be back," he said and with that, he walked out of the cabin and headed back to the pack house.Gwen walked down the stairs and saw Maya frozen in a spot. She was puzzled. "Maya?" She called her attention and Maya turned to look at her with an horrified look on her face.Gwen was shocked by this until she noticed the small stain of blood on the floor. She became confused as she approached her friend. "What happened?" She asked her.M
"Who is this person?" Grey asked him.Heavenly emperor stared at him. "It's for you to find out," he replied."Do not give me that, emperor. You're the heavenly emperor, right? You should know about this person that's about to cause a massive destruction in our worlds," Grey said, getting angry all over again. The heavenly emperor stared at him. "The emperor is all seeing, Verne. But, some things are hidden and without the heavenly mirror, it cannot be seen," he replied.Grey stared at him and exhaled. "How do we stop this?" He asked."Firstly, we cannot pair with each other because you're a demon emperor," the heavenly emperor replied."Enough of that nonsense, emperor. If we do not pair together to save our world, we'll all perish, irrespective of who's a demon or a god," Grey said, making a point and the heavenly emperor stared at him."Fine. Just for the sake of the worlds, I'm willing to put aside our differences an
"The both of you can go to hell for all I care," Vivian scoffed and without waiting to eat breakfast on the dining table, she picked up her plate and walked away in anger. She was walking towards the stairs when Grey was coming down the stairs. He wanted to ignore her, but he saw Maya walking down the stairs from the corner of his eyes."Where are you going with your breakfast?" He asked her."Is it not Zing and Gwen? They were speaking rude to me and warning me to stay away from you. That's why I'm heading to my room to eat my breakfast," she replied with a pitiful look on her face."What impertinence," Grey ranted as he walked away from Vivian and headed over to Zing.Maya was surprised by his sudden demeanor over Zing and she walked down the stairs, heading over to the dining table."Zing, what right do you have to talk to the mother of my child in such a manner?" Grey demanded in anger.Zing rose up as he scoffed. "A
It bothered him a lot. He turned to Athon. "Let him be buried immediately," Grey said and Athon nodded. "Do you perhaps know the reason on his death?" He inquired."I think I do, my Lord," Athon said as he walked over to the shelf. "One of the books on the shelf is missing, my Lord. It is the only book concerning the mysterious ancient lake," he replied.Grey was puzzled. "What has a book got to do with the death of the Mountain demon?" He asked him.Athon explained further. "The book withholds the secrets of the lake, my Lord. It is an ancestral powerful book that was discovered by the first demons," he said.Grey was still not getting what he was saying.Athon took in deep breaths. "Alpha, this book is said to consist of secret and invisible writings that no man can read. These writings when exposed, leads whoever is in control or possession of the book to the merging of all three worlds. The heavens, the earth and the demon world. I be
"I heard about your debts, Alfred," Grey began as he leaned back in his seat. "But, I must inform you before helping you out on this," he continued and Alfred was keened to what he was saying. "Your wife is responsible for your huge debts," he dropped the bombshell.Alfred was shocked. "What?" He exclaimed softly, puzzled and confused.Grey nodded. "I am not aware of how she does it, Alfred. But, to my best of knowledge, she collects money in your name because of her mother and I do not know what she uses them for. You should speak to her," he said."I'm quite shocked by this," Alfred said and his expression said it all. "So, Lisa has been doing this without my knowledge?" He asked himself, still stunned."Do not quarrel with the naive woman, Alfred. She has been doing all That because of her mother. But, that's by the way," Grey said as he tapped his index finger on the desk. "Get those payments from your wife, settle those people she g
