Amalthea's POV
Whoosh! A bucket of ice cold water was poured on my already freezing body, making my lungs seize as I gasped sharply, and jerked upright, coughing and trembling. “Get up!” The guard barked, as he stepped into my cell. “It's judgement day.” A bitter smile spread across my lips. “Psycho,” the guard muttered and dragged me to my feet, my bones screaming in protest. I bit back a groan, and he pushed me out of the cell. “Move!” He ordered, and I began walking like my limbs don’t really belong to me and each step is a negotiation rather than an order. I blinked a few times trying to adjust to the brightness of the sun, as we got outside. I hadn't felt the warmth of the sun in weeks, and I must say it felt heavenly. A car pulled up in front of us seconds later. I got in, and was driven straight to the general Pack hall. I stumbled as the guard kept shoving me forward through the hall. The Pack members whispered amongst themselves, and I could tell they have no idea what's going on. As we got to the front of the hall, the guard forcefully pulled me down to my knees, which only increased their whispering, as they all wondered why the Pack's Luna was being treated like trash. Fredrick was nowhere in sight, and I couldn't help but wonder where he was. After what felt like an eternity, the aura in the hall shifted, and the hall fell silent. Without being told, I knew Frederick just came in. I forced myself to look up and my eyes landed on Frederick. His eyes were filled with the same disdain they've held for me, the moment he walked in on me half naked with another man. As Fredrick took slow imposing steps forward, his eyes were on anywhere but me. “F-Fredrick,” I called out in a hoarse voice as he got close to where I knelt down, but as expected, he acted like I was invisible. I grabbed the hem of his robe to get his attention. “P-please–” Pow! The words had barely left my lips when Fredrick gave me a deafening backhanded slap. “How dare you lay those filthy hands on me?!” He growled, and before I could make sense of anything, Fredrick grabbed me by my neck, and lifted me off the floor like I weighed nothing. My feet dangled, as he lifted me into the air, his grip tightening every second as his eyes darkened. “Fredrick,” I whispered, clawing weakly at his hand, as my body began to tremble, and black spots began to dot my vision. Uncontrollable tears streamed down my cheeks, as life slowly slipped out of me. My hands fell to my sides, and I closed my eyes, waiting for death to embrace me. “Fredrick!” Lilian's voice echoed, and my body crumpled onto the cold floor like a sack of potatoes. The pain that shot through my body in that moment was nothing compared to the pain in my heart. Fresh tears streamed down my cheeks faster than a heartbeat, as the weight of my new reality once again came crashing down on me, and all for something I was clearly innocent of. **************** FEW WEEKS EARLIER************ My head felt like it was being split in halves by the time I stirred awake. I don't know if I'm overthinking this, but it feels like I'm being punished for last night's celebration. I gently massaged my temples, hoping to ease off some of the pains I was feeling, but it was useless. There was so many things to do, and if I stay in bed a second longer I’d be more useless than I already felt. I was about to get out of bed, when a strong arm snaked around my waist, pulling me closer, his breath fanning my neck. “Fredrick,” I whispered, as I allowed myself to relax into his embrace, my body still heavy with sleep. “Good morning, beautiful.” That wasn't— wasn’t Fredrick. I twisted sharply in the bed and found myself face to face with a total stranger. “What the hell?” I scrambled out of bed, only to realize I was putting on a lingerie. I quickly grabbed the sheets and wrapped it around me body. “Who the hell are you?” I demanded, “What do you mean babe?” The man got out of bed, making his way towards me. “You brought me here, remember?” a smirk tugged at the corners of his lips. “Mathias!” I called out to my personal guard, as I made my way to the door. There's no point trying to get anything out of this man, he's delusional, and a good torture would get him talking. As soon as I grabbed the door knob, the door swung open, revealing Frederick with a bouquet in his hand and a bright smile on his lips. I sighed in relief. “Fredrick there's–” I stopped mide sentence as Fredrick looked past me, his eyes darkened as it landed on the half naked man in our room. “Fredrick I–” My voice cracked, but before I could say another word, Fredrick was already across the room, grabbing the man by his throat as he slammed him against the wall. “You had the guts to sleep with my wife?!” Fredrick growled, his voice dripping with raw fury. “On my bed?!” “N-no-” I rushed over to Fredrick, trying to explain. “Fredrick nothing happened between us. I don't even know–” “Don't you dare take another step, Thea!” Fredrick glared at me. I stopped dead in my tracks, tears welling up in my eyes. “What's happening?” Lilianand Allen rushed in, her eyes darting between Fredrick choking a stranger who was putting on nothing but boxers, and back to me who stood in a corner in tears, putting on nothing but lingerie. I'm sorry,” the man managed to croak out. “Amalthea invited me in–” “That's a lie!” My voice came out as a strangled cry. “I don't even know this man—” “How long has this been going on?” Fredrick's voice was filled with so much hurt, that my heart ached. “A couple of months.” A deafening thunder-like growl rippled out of Frederick, his Alpha Aura suffocating everyone in the room. “Fredrick,” Lilianwhimpered, her face turning pale as she clutched her throat, struggling to breathe. “Alpha,” Allen stepped forward cautiously and placed his hands on Fredrick's. “Let him go, please. You're going to kill him.” It took several agonizing seconds, but Allen finally managed to pry Fredrick’s hand from the man’s throat. The man collapsed to the floor and greedily sucked in air. “Fredrick–” I stopped mid-sentence, as his face was void of the love I once knew. His gaze was cold and murderous, and it wasn't directed at the stranger anymore– it was directed at me. “Lock them up,” Frederick walked past me like I didn't exist. “Separately,” he added, before slamming the door shut behind him.Present DayAmalthea's POV"We're gathered here today to bear witness to the trial of Amalthea Crawford,” Elder Charles's voice rang through the general Pack hall, pulling me out of my thoughts. “Luna..," He paused and glared at me with open contempt. "...ex Luna of Blackfangs Pack, on the grounds of Adultery," he continued and looked over at the Pack members who were all seated in the general Pack hall. Slowly, murmurs began to ripple through the crowd.“Order in the court,” Allen commanded and the murmurs gradually died down."How do you plead, Amalthea ?" Elder Charles asked, in a cold and unforgiving voice."Not guilty," I replied in a steady voiceElder Charles scoffed. "Alright then. We'll start by hearing the witnesses' testimonies, and all supporting documents,” he announced. “After that, the Pack's council would decide your verdict,” he looked over at me, and I could tell all this was just for formality's sake and my fate had already been sealed. “May the first witness ple
Nicholson's POV“You bought me a what?!” I roared, my eyes locked on my Beta Callum who was standing across from me. How could he think– how could he dare?“A breeder,” he repeated calmly as if that was supposed to soothe me.“I think you're tired of living, Callum,” I glared at him.“Alpha, just hear me out,” Callum said quickly, holding up his hands. “I was just thinking about you.”“Thinking about me? How does getting me a breeder fit into that equation?!” I spat.Callum sighed, rubbing the back of his head. “I know this isn't what you want–”“You're damn right it's not what I want!” I snapped, pushing away from my desk, and pacing around the room.“You've got less than two years before the curse activates,” he said softly. “Less than two years to–”“I know!” I cut him off, not wanting to talk about the curse. I hated thinking about it, hated thinking about the dark shadow over my life.“I understand you are holding out for your fated mate–”“Yet here you are planning on bringing
Amalthea's POVThe masked man didn't say a word, and walked past me without much of a glance as he walked out the door. What the hell just happened? One minute I thought he was going to touch me inappropriately or worse still kill me, and now, he was covering me up?What in the world is happening?“You got lucky,” the gruff man that brought me here muttered darkly. “If he didn't like you, you'd have begged for death–and it wouldn't come.”A shiver ran down my spine as his words sank in. I'm I really lucky as he said? Or would death have been a better option.I barely had time to process all that just happened when a knock came on the door, and Lara stepped in, her eyes buried to the ground as if afraid to meet my gaze.“These are for you,” Lara quietly handed me leggings, a plain top, boots and a jacket.I stared at the clothes for a few minutes, tempted to ask Lara questions, she looks like she'll have an idea of what I'm getting into, but with the way her eyes were on anywhere but o
Amalthea's POV I was still trying to decide what to do when I felt a cold hand grab me from behind. “Gotcha!” My body stiffened. I slowly turned my head and my eyes landed on one of the werebears. He has a sinister smile that sent a chill down my spine. “Hello beautiful,” he purred, tightening his grip around my arm as he pulled me closer. “Get away from me!” I screamed in terror, years burning my vision as I tried freeing myself from his grip. “Please,” I choked out, still struggling to set myself free. “”Please just let me go.” “Sure thing beautiful,” he let got of me, his eyes watching me like a hawk as he trailed his fingers reached out to caress my cheeks, making my skin crawl “Don't touch me!” My voice came out harsher than I intended as I jerked my head back. “Feisty, huh?” He gave me a sinister smile, and was about to touch my cheeks again when I sank my teeth between his thumb and his index finger, biting down hard till the metallic taste of blood filled my mouth.
Amalthea's POV The air in the room suddenly felt suffocating, and I didn't need a soothsayer to tell me that the Lycan King just stepped in.Slowly I turned around, and saw a tall figure with an imposing presence at the door. I couldn't make out his face completely, but I could tell he was watching me intently.Bam! He banged the door behind him, making me flinch and I instinctively tightened my hand around the alarm clock.“D–don’t come any closer,” I stuttered as he took a step forward. I raised the alarm clock, positioning it like a weapon. Even though it was laughable that I'm holding up an alarm clock as a defense against the Lycan king, I still needed to defend myself.“What do you think you're doing?” He asked, in a voice that sounded all too familiar.I decided not to ponder on the familiarity of the voice and just focused on fighting him off in whatever way I can.My heart skipped a beat as he took a step forward…then another, and another…and with each step my hand tightened
Amalthea’s POVKing Nicholson? Have I heard correctly? My brain is paralyzed by the shock as I keep tracing red lines on the dashboard in my mind. The voice, the build, the same pair of gray eyes. They all matched the same person. It was always the damn mask from the start that misled me. My eyes widened as it finally clicked. If this was the Lycan king, then the person I brought me here was the Lycan king himself!Oh goddess! That was why he mocked me last night when I attempted to throw a damn clock at his head! Why did he have to put on a mask? Worse still, why did he pretend to be Beta Callum? What was his motive behind doing that? Different thoughts raced through my mind all at once.Other trainees around me at this point had long fallen silent and were bowing their heads in the direction of the Lycan king while I was already grazing the floor of the training ground. His cold stare was unwavering as he peered down at me, whipping at his nostril before spitting somewhere close
Nicholson's POV “How is she?” Maybe it was the urgency in which I used to approach the physician but he took a step back into the room, before edging me out subtly so he could close the door behind me. He cracked a smile. “I heard she is your breeder. Well—” The physician started and I was suddenly struck by the nerve. My action made me appear even more desperate than I actually was. I was supposed to be an alpha. Besides, she was supposed to just be my breeder. No one cares about a breeder who isn't carrying their child yet. I felt embarrassed. To save myself from the embarrassment, I simply walked past the doctor into the hospital room just as he was about to tell me about her condition. I closed the door behind me, emptying my mind from the thoughts of the doctor and focused on the woman on the bed. She's awake. She isn't laying completely on her back. Instead, she is propped up on a pillow that gives her a higher elevation. She was sipping water from a plastic cup with both he
Nicholson's POV Shutting the door behind me, I sighed. I peered my ears to the door to hear if she would say anything behind my back. Instead, I heard a strong sniff which delivered more than a punch to my heart. I bounced off the door like it suddenly caught on fire. The physician was at the end of the hall conversing with a nurse. I admonished the thought of asking him again for her condition after being the one who walked out on him in the first place. I decided the counter would be the next best place to go. I needed to make sure her card batch would be opened anyways. From what I have experienced about her, I had a feeling she would be visiting her frequently. I mean, she didn't even get to fight Mikayla. All she did was throw a punch—unsuccessfully. And she still ended up falling to the ground. Thinking that's the worse case scenario, she ended up falling and hurting herself after conceding defeat. I shook my head, wondering if this was the kind of woman I really wanted to use
Nicholson's POV "How did you find the letters?" I asked Mikayla as I leaned back in my chair, scanning the contents of the notes once more.I was considerably more calm now and I had to admit I was ashamed and sickened by my outburst. I always prided myself on my ability to school my features and remain calm despite every situation but I always seemed to be out of character wherever Amalthea was involved.I cringed as I recalled how I had blatantly accused her and worse, threatened her without waiting to hear what she had to say. I wondered what she must think of me at this moment."Nic?" Mikayla called out to me, drawing me out of my thoughts.I stared down at the piece of paper in my hand and yet I didn't recognize the messy scribbles but then again I didn't know Amalthea's writing style."Did you say something?" I asked, focusing back on Mikayla."Yes. One of the maids was cleaning and she informed me she found something that seemed out of sorts on Amalthea's dresser. She was scar
Amalthea's POV It had to be today. I had to leave this horrid pack today, I refused to spend another minute in the same vicinity as that blackguard.I clenched my fists as I tried to blink back the tears that were rapidly making their way to the front of my eyes.I felt like it was happening all over again.I was being framed for something I didn't do for the second time and soon I would be thrown out."Thea, are you alright?" Jade made her way back into the library."Why wouldn't I be?" I asked. My voice betrayed me and Jade walked briskly to where I stood by the window."What happened?" Jade asked, gently caressing my arms."That...that despicable-" a sob tore through me."Hey, it's alright. Just take a deep breath." Jade comforted me.I took in a deep breath, trying to calm my nerves."Your alpha somehow believes that I am in contact with the werebears." I explained."Why would he think that?" She asked, with wide eyes."Apparently he found some incriminating letters on my dresser
Nicholson's POV "The seer was unable to provide any useful information." I informed Callum. "How is that possible? He knows everything." Callum looked as confused as I felt. "He said some nonsense about not wanting to alter fate but the main thing is he couldn't tell me anything." I explained in frustration. "What are you going to do now?" Callum asked and I rubbed my hand down my face. "I don't know." I admitted and it was true. I was at a loss for what to do. "Would you consider handing the girl over?" Callum asked. "That is not an option." I said with finality. Callum looked at me for a few seconds, a smile tugging at the corners of his lips. "What's so amusing?” I gritted out. "Nothing at all." Callum shrugged. "We better find a way around this, and early,” he suggested, and just then a knock came on the door. "Come in." I said, as I could already tell how as at the door. Mikayla strolled in. "What is wrong?" I asked. "I have something to show you Nic." She said and
Amalthea's pov "Is everything okay?" Jade's voice pulled me out of my thoughts. "I'm fine." I muttered, not looking at her as I flipped a page of my book absentmindedly. "You have been reading the same page of that book for the last fifteen minutes." She pointed out. "I'm trying to dissect the text." I said lamely. Jade snorted, not believing a word I just said. But I couldn't care less at the moment, since we got back from the seer, my mind hasn't been at ease. Different thoughts were racing through my mind but mostly one bothered me the most. If the werebears indeed came for me why hasn't he given me up yet? I definitely meant nothing to him and he had nothing to lose but everything to gain from stopping their attacks on his pack. If the attacks persisted would his decision waver? Would he eventually hand me over to them? I was losing my mind at this point. "You know you can talk to me, right Thea?" Jade said, her face etched with worry. I sighed, dropping the book to th
Amalthea's pov "Where are we going?" I asked for the millionth time, as Alpha Nicholson led me deeper into the woods. “You’ll see,” he said tersely. “So, I should just keep following blindly?” I asked irritatedly. "That's what you are doing right now, isn't it?" He retorted. I stomped my feet to the ground. “I’m not moving an inch until you tell me where we are going, Alpha,” I folded my arms across my chest, my brows knitted in a frown. "Now's not the time for your childish tantrums,” he said in a dangerously low tone that sent shivers down my spine, but still riled me up regardless. "Childish tantrums?" I gritted out. "Now's not the time for an argument, believe me,” he turned on his heels and began walking, no doubt expecting me to follow behind him. I remained rooted to the spot where I stood. I had to make him understand that he couldn't control me, I wasn't his minion. "Amalthea." Nicholson growled back at me. "Like I said, I'm not moving another inch till you tell me
Nicholson's POV I crossed my hands over my chest as I watched the pack members train. My expression was stoic as always, revealing nothing as I watched them. My eyes landed on Mikayla and Amalthea at a corner and I couldn't look away. I convinced myself the only reason I stared at them was because I knew Amalthea needed more training than the rest of the pack members but my conscience called me out for the liar I was. I couldn't turn my gaze away no matter how hard I tried as I watched Almathea's clumsy movements. My lips twitched in amusement as she tripped on her own feet and fell to the ground. How could a she-wolf be so weak and clumsy? "If you stare at her hard enough, she might just transform into a powerful, feared warrior." Callum broke into my thoughts, standing beside me. "Excuse me?" I turned towards him, feigning ignorance. "You know exactly what I'm talking about Nick. Stop staring at her so blatantly before your pack members begin to ask questions." He said, giv
Nicholson's pov "You dare to cut me off?" I sneered as I gripped the armrest. I had never in my life met anyone as aggravating and irritating as the little woman who sat in the middle of the bed. "Look Alpha." Almathea gritted out my title. "I already know it was stupid of me to leave the picnic when I didn't know my way back but you were the one who got me angry in the first place." She accused, her voice considerably more calm. "And while I'm grateful you somehow found me and saved me, that doesn't mean I'll let you bite my head off." She finished off and plopped back down on the bed. I remained silent as I observed her. Did this woman realize I had the power to crush her? The power to kill her within seconds? "Where are we anyways?" She arched her brows as she took in her surroundings. "A cottage not too far from the pack." I replied quietly. "How did you find it?" Almathea asked, she was so ignorant. "It belonged to my mother." I revealed and she looked up at me sharply
Amalthea's POV I intended to head back to the pack house but somehow I had lost my way. I wandered aimlessly in the forest, trying to find my way back. It was then I noticed the darkening clouds and the earthy scent of rain in the air. I looked up to the sky and it was obvious a storm was coming. I hastened my footsteps, although I wasn't sure if I was headed in the right direction. My eyes scrambled to find the nearest building or anywhere at all I could take cover under as the first angry raindrops fell onto my face. All I could see were trees...for miles to come. The rain began to fall in all earnesty and my clothes slowly began to cling to my body. I screamed as a thunderclap boomed in the air, startling me. The winds rose and blew with vigour and I had to hold on to a tree before I would be swept off. Pure fear and panic gripped me as it only got worse. I had never imagined this would be how I would die. Why had I let Nicholson's words rile me up and more importantly
Amalthea's pov Nicholson's smile slowly slipped away from his face as he stared at me and my heart dropped as our eyes met and held. Good, he didn't deserve to be happy and all smiled around me when he was making my life miserable. "Thea, so glad you could make it." Callum smiled at me. He was the only one who genuinely looked happy with my presence at the picnic. "Thea?" Mikayla arched a questioning brow at Callum. "It's our little nickname for her." Callum explained as Jade and I took our places on the mat. I strategically positioned myself as far away from Nicholson as possible, just as I had at the dinner. "It's nice to see you too Beta Callum." I offered him a small smile. "Just Callum is fine." He retorted. "It's Beta Callum to her." Nicholson gritted out and I furrowed my brows. "Just Callum then." I purposefully ignored Nicholson's words, wanting to get on his nerves. He stared at me with fire in his eyes but I ignored him. "So what did we miss?" Jade asked, clearin
