2| Corey

Corey's light footsteps made me smile as I heard him approach the room. I stuffed some information in my bag and carried my cloak, turning around to stare at Corey who had gotten behind me.

“Rey, you remember the rules?” I asked to be sure and he smiled at me, nodding his head quickly.

“Stay under the covers and don’t make a sound.” His cute voice calmed me and I prayed to the moon and stars that he would be okay like every other time. I bent down to kiss his forehead and he giggled again before rushing to the white covers at the side of the room.

“Be quick, I’m scared of the sound,” He said, his voice suddenly sounding solemn and I nodded, knowing he was talking about the howling sounds we were always hearing now and then.

“I will, I’m coming,” I replied again, with my voice calming and he nodded again. At this, I walked towards the window and used my both hands to plunge myself over it. Ever since we entered the house, we shut the door and I always used the window instead.

I walked through the bushes after making sure the house was not surrounded and soon I was in the woods. I used the trees I marked to walk through, finding more familiar roads. I sneezed as some dust particles tickled my nose and immediately held my breath in fear, looking around. Feeling safe, I continued walking and finally smiled when I saw the familiar town below me.

Pack Revala.

It was a weird name but that was the name Siren gave to me. I sighed and journeyed down the crusty roads, trying my best not to fall. My cloak flew up behind me due to the strong wind and I put my hand on my face to protect it from the dust that it brought.

Some fell on my tongue and I coughed up some dust. Shaking my head in irritation, I continued my journey and almost screamed in happiness when I realized I was on the ground now.

My eyes widened when I saw the state of the town. The buildings seemed crushed and some were already renovated. From up the hill, I had noticed it seemed bigger but didn’t bother to think deep.

“Get the bricks over here! The Alpha is coming to visit!” One of the bricklayers screamed which made me cower behind a broken building side.

I looked and ran forward when he passed by, my heart slammed in my chest and I asked myself why I was running in the first place. I had to. For some reason, I had to.

The trucks were loud and I looked forward to seeing a familiar street in front of me. Sighing in relief, I ran towards it before anyone could see me.

“Fuck.” I cursed under my breath when I saw another person coming my way. I stood up and turned around, my cloak showing in his view and his footsteps suddenly halted.

“Hey! You are not to be here on this premises.” He said, coming closer and of course, I ran.

“Hey!” He ran after me with his voice echoing through the walls as I jumped through them. Why I was running I didn’t know but my sixth sense was screaming danger and that was all I could listen to.

My legs raised the dust of the broken blocks as I ran, looking for safety. That soon stopped when someone dragged me, making me scream but a large hand came over my mouth, stopping my muffles.

“Shut up.” A feminine voice came from behind me and I wondered how she was so strong to pull me with a whim. The footsteps passed by and we both stayed there in silence.

“Torado, what is it?” A man said, coming to a stop. “Who were you after?”

“A human. A meta-human,” He answered and my eyes widened. Meta?

“They aren’t real-“ The other one started but the other one stopped him, still releasing harsh breaths.

“Shut the fuck up, Rowley. We aren’t also real but here we are. The person seemed feminine. Smelt human but there was something else.” He started and the other groaned.

“We need to finish our site. She might’ve had a spell. Not a word about this to the Alpha, he’ll have our heads,” He said walking back in the direction of the site.

The other looked around and sniffed again and I started confused. Was he a dog? The girl however tightened her hands and covered me with her hair. I was uncomfortable but a bit safe.

“Torado! Come on!” A distant voice called and he sighed.

Then something happened.

He disappeared. So fast.

No, he ran. But still.

My heart raced as I stayed caged in the girl's hands. I knew these people weren’t normal. I stayed in fear so that she would kill me. Her hand released slowly and the rush of air caressed my face.

I breathed out slowly and quietly, tears leaving my eyes out of fear. I turned back to look at my savior and I was shocked to see a girl of my age, well almost.

She looked down, flipping her shoulder-length hair to the back and she stared at me. Her eyes were green. Fury green. She looked like a beautiful alien. Unreal. That’s how they all looked in this town.

“Where’s the thank you?” Her accent came out a little bit.

“Thanks I came here to get food and water for my little brother and me.” She nodded with her eyes clouded with concern. “You're not supposed to be here. Alpha Enzo will end you. You’re a human, special.” She said, standing up by I held her hands not understanding a word she said.

“You’ve got to help me. He’s hungry.” I started but she pulled her hands from mine.

“Listen human. I’ll be six feet under if anyone learns that I helped a human. Someone that might be bewitched for that matter. Take your brother and leave the premises entirely. Here,” She said, bringing out some bread from her sack. I looked at her in gratitude.

“Thank you, what’s your name-“ I started but she put her hand over my mouth as someone passed by and leaned down, her green eyes hitting my striking blue ones.

“Listen, I’m not a friend and I need to get back home. They are doing a clean-up today so please leave. You see that path?” She started and I nodded.

“I’m going to clear it up for you. You’ll pass there, you’ll see a stream, climb up the hill and you’ll be out of town. Take your brother and leave the outskirts. Give me three minutes then come out. Okay?” She said again and I nodded. I hoped to see her again but all I could d think of was Corey.

A gut feeling told me to go home fast and leave there as soon as possible.

“Beta Davina!” Someone called and she cursed. “The Beta calls for you! Beta Davina! Please leave the construction premises, your shift is over.” It came again.

She suddenly removed her cloak and my eyes widened at her fashion. She looked cute in black and green. She pushed her straight-back hair backward and enhanced her composure.

She looked back and nodded at me, “Start counting,” She said and stepped out.

“Beta Davina!”

“What is it!?” Her voice came out strict and scary and even I shuffled back into my hiding place. She seemed tall, maybe my height and she dripped respect. The voice almost choked as she walked in the direction.

“B-Beta André said-“ Then a man came into view but she pushed him, turning into the street she told me she would clear and my counting senses heightened.

2 more minutes.

I stayed there as the minutes passed and the streets became quieter.

Fifty seconds more.

The dust hit my nose as I tensed my legs. Waiting painfully to be free from the crouching position I was in.

Ten.

I stood up and bent my knees. Respectfully following the time. I don’t know why I trusted her so much but I did.

Two.

One.

I ran out.

The street was quiet making my steps echo as I entered it and looked seeing no one on them. The shops were empty and it was scary to me. Like the horror movies I had watched when I was younger, if there was no life on the street, it meant there was worse.

I turned to the left and met an empty road but the sound of the water was hitting my ears.

The stream.

I ran towards it and started climbing the hill, putting strength on my legs as the stones boosted me up. Reaching the top, I almost laughed to myself when I saw the familiar trees ahead and I smiled again, looking back in gratitude at my newfound friend I would possibly never see again.

My eyes expanded in fear when I saw it. A huge black midnight wolf with green eyes. At the edge of the stream downwards. It stared at me and walked away.

I almost fell from where I was and held myself when I screamed. The wolf howled loudly as if covering my scream as it ran away.

It looked like her.

Like Davina.

I shook my head and ran through the woods in fear. I was in danger and I knew it. These people were not normal, the builder sniffed the air and now a wolf was staring at me.

I dodged the trees and was careful about getting figs in my legs My footsteps hit the ground as I looked up, noticing that it was already dusk. We had to leave now. It was so risky that I asked myself, “to where?”

I shook my head, telling myself that walking in the wilderness was better than getting eaten by wolves.

I ran towards the house and jumped through the window in fear, landing gracefully.

“Corey, I got food but we gotta go,” I said, saying my normal words so that he could crawl out from where he was but what I got when I turned around was enough to make me pass out.

My brother was eating a whole meal, staring at me.

There were two men in the room. Beautifully made but scary. Their presence screamed danger and one of the men, caressed Corey's hair making me step forward.

The other laughed to himself and looked at me, his pretty smile turning to a snarl, “Don’t.” He warned and I stayed where I was, watching Corey in teary eyes. He seemed safe and happy but I couldn’t help but be scared.

“So you’re the reason why my baby was so keen about me not cleaning through today?” His husky voice came out in a hush making me shiver.

“You met her? Davina?” He asked again and I shook my head. He didn’t seem like the person I would say the truth to. He laughed again, a beautiful rhythm leaving his mouth.

“Oh, don’t bother about saving her. I could never hurt her. I can’t dream of it,” He said, his loving eyes changing to a cruel gaze.

“However, it’s not the same for you, bound her and take her to Enzo.”
